Contemporary design is sterile and sublime. Enter Ken Garland's revision of the original 1964 Manifesto. The publishing of the "First Things First" manifesto 2000 is exhibit A that a trend for social belief systems is growing. Or is it? Many comfortably accept that designers are indeed "engaged in nothing less than the manufacture of contemporary reality". The four 'voices' of the TX Manifesto Family (Regular, Slant, Stout and Stencil) is intended for your typographical response, and push for conscientious design.

Isaac Newton, father of the theory of gravity, used several forms of handwriting in his life, in numerous texts about numerous scientific subjects. Here, we propose a handwritten font, using a particularly legible script form, coming from texts written in 1672, the year he presented a new reflecting telescope to the Royal Society. It is a Pro font containing Western, Eastern, Central and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, and Turkish diacritics. The alternates and ligatures allow the font to look as closely as possible to the real thing. The features allow OTF software to vary the characters of a word automatically, with no more work than selecting contextual alternates and standard ligatures.

I wouldn't recommend that you use this font for massive text, or text written in CAPS ... but then again, go ahead and try - I even kerned all the capital letters ... just in case that you would do something so crazy! :) Dynamique is a kind of a "straight out of the highway" grid-font. But then again, not ... if you use the lowercase alone, you have this almost monospaced font - try starting every word with a capital letter, and let it end with the alternate ligature, your words suddenly got even more power! If you want to go lightspeed - then use the same technique, but only with the italic version!

The seventeenth century Dutch old faces have a distinct character of their own, and were the source for eighteenth century English type designs, such as Caslon. Christoffel van Dijck was one of the great Dutch typefounders, although this face, which bears his name, may not have been cut by him, it is nevertheless representative of the best designs from that period. The Van Dijck italic, for which original punches survive, is almost certainly the work of van Dijck. Drawn at Monotype under the supervision of Jan van Krimpen. The Van Dijck font is a graceful typeface, best used for setting books, quality magazines and articles.

Brushland was initially born as custom type project, where the goal was to achieve a natural feeling as if it was really written. Enzian is the fruit of a yearlong German Chancellor Fellowship sponsored by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Our hope was simple: to make something useful and beautiful out of something that most people consider to be neither. We were fascinated by the complex persona of Blackletter in Germany and drawn to its emotive ornament and its sensual, non-geometry. Two areas in particular, the long-standing rivalry and widely-believed inferiority that Blackletter had with Roman type and Blackletter’s relevance in contemporary culture, became the foundation of the project. The result is Enzian: an invigorated, original Blackletter of uncommon depth and hopefully, a bit of charm. It is warm and expressive, feminine and contemporary, while staying true to its hand-written, calligraphic roots. Enzian is a multi-language, workhorse typeface that can create hierarchy (with unconventional italic and small caps), and has numerals that fit the family. The initial idea for the Oops font, was to create graphemes, and by using them it could imitate a mark of a spilled liquid-stain. In an attempt to make the most convincing effect, those graphemes were written on glass. The final appearance of the graphemes, mostly remain in their basic form, and have the characteristic of a liquid, like fluidity in motion. This manuscript is expressive, but that does not affect the readability of the letters. The generated font was created by using Photoshop, Illustrator and a little bit of interventions in Font Lab. Font Oops is updated and edited version of an old version of the Art decor font, which had just basic letters. Today, Oops font contains Latin and Cyrillic letters, and it can be ideal for use in subjects like a paintball, art, expression, ink, water...

Sunwind is not really made to write long copy. It is a font for shopsigns and short sentences that need that hot, sunny and windy touch. And that is how I got around to designing it: I saw some letters on a shopsign in Cannes when driving into town. I shouted at my son Julius: "Quick take a picture of that sign, the blue one." That's what he did, only he used the macro setting, so I had a very small sign but lots of nice background. Anyway I got the basic idea! Then I made a lot of sketches and this is what came out. I added a smallcaps set and I also made some initials as a rough version, so they look like written with a brush on heavygrain paper. Swinging that brush is yours truly Gert Wiescher
