A 1927 travel poster for visiting what was then Palestine and Near East was hand lettered in an early Art Deco thick-and-thin type face. The lettering was redrawn digitally, and is now available as the aptly-named Travel Poster JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

A semi text type with thin stresses, in Granite Semi Stencil the overall weight of the Granite Regular has been decreased by a set unit which has obliterated the stress to leave white space. This gives the typeface an idiosyncratic almost arbitrary take on the utility Stencil aesthetic.

Breaking from our catalog of typefaces to create a new handwritten font family, Modern Love was born out of our desire to see what would happen if we took a step back from the norm. We weren’t looking for the perfection of the many calligraphy techniques, but more of a natural way of writing with the same tools. Our escapist experiment into casual lettering culminated into 4 fonts: Modern Love Regular, Grunge, Rough and Caps. Modern Love Regular is a hand-painted script, each glyph individually designed with a pointed brush and walnut ink. The aim was to create an effortless hand-drawn feel while keeping the contrast high density. Linotype Salamander is a part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. Designed by German artist Michael Struller, the font seems to be composed of strokes and curves jointed together to form characters. Yet Salamander also looks like a handwriting font, in part because of its slight lean to the right. The font contains four basic weights, from regular to demibold, and two particularly heavy double-weights. Linotype CoolWool is part of the Take Type Library, featuring winners of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest. This font was designed by A. Leonardi and P. Wollein, who took their inspiration from clothing labels and care instructions. CoolWool is designed to look like it was stitched, a style of typeface which goes back to the hand embroidery of the time of Biedermeier. CoolWool, however, is a distinctly modern font with a technical feel. The font is not suited for longer texts, but CoolWool is good for shorter texts and headlines, especially because of the possibilities allowed by its three different styles, regular, stone washed (bold) and Cotton Club (outline).

Fossa is an unconventional serif designed primarily as a display typeface. Its splayed, pinched vertical strokes and pointy wedge serifs give it a distinct flavour. The style for Fossa was initially conceived while studying the forms of Optima – in particular, the subtle taper towards the midpoint of the stems and strokes.
