K-Type has attempted to remain true to the spirit of the original identity, whilst updating the face, particularly the upper case, to sit more comfortably in contemporary usage. Swedish designer Karl-Erik Forsberg created the original Berling typeface in 1951. Owned by Verbum in Sweden, Berling was completely redesigned and released in 2004, under the name Berling Nova. Forsberg (1914–1995) is considered one of Sweden’s most masterful graphic designers, and his original Berling has come to be seen as possibly the most definitive Swedish typeface. But a redesign was necessary in order to secure that the spirit of Berling would survive in the digital age. Linotype, the distributor of the original Berling™ , provided its collection of source materials to the designers working on Berling Nova. Additionally, Akira Kobayashi — Linotype’s Type Director — lent them his advice as their project advanced. Berling Nova is available in two optical sizes: Text and Display. The original Berling was a classic Renaissance roman face, with fine terminals and sharp, beak-like serifs. If one looks at Berling’s old lead type proofs in the smaller type sizes, it is clear that these had a fuller and more readable form than in later digital versions. So, in order to help return the new Berling Nova to its original splendor, both the base forms and the serifs were softened and inflated. In the text version, the x-height has been increased a bit (by 4%), the diagonal axis is less apparent, and special glyph ranges, such as those for small caps and old style figures, have been included in the font’s character sets. The display version still has the unmistakable “Berling” character that displays Forsberg’s mastery. Berling Nova is well suited for longer text passages in books, publications, and magazines. This typeface fulfils all the demands that one can make on a legible newspaper typeface. Access to both text and display versions are important to the demanding typographer. This is the first time since the typeface was digitalized that it is possible to use it in order to create truly beautiful and functional typography in all type sizes.

Normally, a short paragraph or two on this page tells the backstory to a font design. In this particular case, that story has been lost to time. Whatever the original source – whether a vintage bit of typography or an original idea – the beginnings of this font lay unfinished for quite a while as it was perceived to duplicate another previous release. However, after recently checking a sample of the design against other Jeff Levine Fonts, it’s reasonably certain this type face may have similar characteristics, but can stand on its own merit. That said, Clean Deco JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Kulturista is an unmistakeable linear slab serif typeface with pronounced rectangular serifs. The drawings are based on the sans-serif Nudista typeface, and Kulturista also inherits Nudista’s distinctive narrowed character proportions, range of weights and glyph sets. The italics are inclined sufficiently, and have the same width and colouring as the plain styles. They aren’t just a mechanically-slanted version of the basic styles, as is often the case for typefaces derived from geometrical images — a whole range of characters have their own drawn variants, which greatly strengthens their highlight function. Handy Andy Andy Lethbridge had only just completed his graphic design BA at the University of Portsmouth when he was spotted by Jason, who’d seen Andy’s exquisite hand lettering at his degree show and on Instagram. Keen to push the handwritten theme further, having recently launched a digitally-created, chalky script font (FS Sammy), Jason offered Andy a job and the chance to develop a suite of more stylised, truly hand-drawn fonts. Andy duly got out his pads, pencils and pens, and started experimenting with styles and textures. Magic followed. Imperfection perfected Most ‘handwritten’ typefaces are created entirely digitally. Not FS Shepton. From the start, the intention was to create a collection of alphabets of similar character but different texture and style – 100% hand-drawn and purposely imperfect, with the kind of inconsistent, organic shapes and textures of market stall signs, dashed off in chalk or paint. FS Shepton Regular, drawn with a wet brush pen, is solid with a rough outer edge and a casual but controlled feel. The dry brush used to create FS Shepton Light gives it more inner texture and a more formal, slanted, calligraphic style. FS Shepton Bold, drawn using a wider, looser dry brush pen, has a woody grain in the middle of its broad strokes and greater solidity where the brush moves more slowly. Fresh as a daisy Think of FS Shepton not as a family of three weights of the same font so much as a collection of three fonts penned by the same author. All of them – the light, regular and bold – were created independently as display fonts that offer something different to labelling, packaging, point-of-sale and advertising. Lovingly crafted by hand, they’re a good match for products and settings that share the same artisinal qualities: organic foods, drinks and healthcare products, as well as premium chocolate, coffee and condiments.

JY Décennie has been designed for both the web and print. Essentially applying the principles of newspaper typefaces, attention has been paid to the Windows versions of the family to ensure clarity when used in web browsers. It was originally conceived with an Australian broadsheet newspaper in mind, and ultimately launched to commemorate JY&A’s 10th anniversary. The design itself is based on Australian and New Zealand wood type, which was used widely by European settlers during the nineteenth century.

Monotype Caslon Titling was made available for hot metal casting in 1932. The capital Monotype Caslon Titling letters were based on types from the Stephenson Blake Foundry, previously the Caslon Foundry. Originally designed by William Caslon in the eighteenth century, Caslon is considered an old face although it has characteristics which were later found in the transitional typefaces. The Monotype Caslon Titling font has a distinctive style, generous width and strong color, ideal for use in advertising, magazines and on book jackets.

Duck! There’s a cream pie headed your way! This wild and wacky face is based on the title card lettering for the original Soupy Sales TV show, a lasting testament to my misspent youth. Presenting originally designed decorative font named Kaipara. The main goal of this font is a pattern that flows between the characters. Each letter has six variations that switches automatically to create a solid pattern feeling. Check out that "context alternates" OpenType feature is activated to achieve neccessery result. Lille Snemand, in Danish, means Little Snowman - like the Little Mermaid, but then colder… Lille Snemand is kin to the original Snemand font, which is an all caps typeface, but unlike its big brother, Lille Snemand comes with lowercase glyphs. It is a very legible font and has that 'unevenish' look - making it a great typeface for packaging and books.

Geometa is based on Paul Renners Futura Classic, the one that he designed before he had to soften it to make it more appealing to the broad public. I thought the original design would lend itself perfect to make a rounded version, that has got more character than the ever so boring DIN-typeface. Balthasar is a very distinctive, stencil-type display font. Its letterforms originally appeared on a lettered book jacket by Michael Harvey. Its highly condensed letterforms being very economic in the use of space. The augmented, Balthasar Plus version has many alternative characters and ligatures, together with Opentype features for their automatic substitution where the application in which they are used permits.

HenHouse is an offbeat comic sans-serif typestyle full of wonky bounce. Inspired by the 1962 Merrie Melodies cartoon titled “Mother was a Rooster”, this typeface has all of the spunk of its source. The end result, a lively tribute to its origin, easy to read and fun to look at, a perfect typeface for childrens' books, advertisements, and playful designs!

WIP Sugar Baby depicts the handwriting of a young woman with opulent curves that spread juvenile charm and warms the hearts of all of us. The (lower case) characters are joined as it is usual in German speaking countries. Originally designed in 1995 the font has been extended by a lot of new characters such as accented characters, punctuation, symbols and currency symbols.

HUGS is a font inspired by children at play and explorative good-natured spirit. With a bit of a bounce and a whole lotta whimsy this headline font has a hand-drawn charm and a wiggly lightheartedness. Originally created for a great American diaper company for use in coupons and packaging, HUGS also translates nicely to the screens of modern devices.

This font took a long time to create, because we spent a lot of time thinking about how to produce an original and real-looking signature font. As a result, we created Masculin! This real signature font is a clean script and has unique character! It's perfect for logos, name cards, magazine layouts, invitations, headers, or even large-scale artwork.

Originally commissioned by magazine publisher IPC, Rogue has proved to be one of the most popular Device releases. Now extended and updated as Rogue Nova, it sports additional weights, East European language support and reengineered spacing and kerning. It is now a versatile 30-font family, with five weights and three widths, all with italics. Powerful and authoritative, sharp-edged and contemporary.

Lobster Hand is a great hand painted face. Inspired by found signage this true type font has a vintage hand painted feel and is effortlessly original. Featuring two options for every letter you can create a huge combination of typographic alternates. Lobster Hand would be great for signage, drop caps, numerals, titles, logos, packaging, menus, etc. Available in Italic and Regular.

Ruqaa font is one of the original Arabic fonts. It is the most common font and is written in most Arab countries because it has the potential to be written in a narrow space when compared to other Arabic fonts. It is used in the titles of books, magazines, daily newspapers, commercials, banners, advertising, holiday cards, newspaper headlines, Introduction to students.

In August 1930, Jan Tschichold described a new typeface, that is "producable by everybody without further knowledge" in the publication Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandel. Sebastian Nagel has extended the original drawing to 7 weights (black, extrabold, bold, semibold, regular, semilight and light), with full coverage of the Latin 1 character set. All fonts also include small caps and alternate characters.

Antipasto is a geometric sans serif font designed by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini. The original family of three weights has been revised and expanded in 2017 with Antipasto Pro that now includes cyrillic and greek characters, open type features (small caps and old style numerals), six new weights from the hairline to the extrabold and an icons set in 8 weights.

The inspiration behind the design of the Verger typeface family (serif & sans version) comes from the classic Golden Type, which was originally crafted by William Morris. Although Verger is inspired by this classic typeface, it has several modern, expressive and distinctive styles of its own, especially in the design of its italic versions. This is the sans version of Verger .

This contrast serif typeface is good for display use. Bandera Display Cyrillic has six weights with original italics. It catches attention in headlines of posters and magazines.
