Hadron is a fusion of gothic black letter and foundational letter forms. It has a heavy flat pen influence but is combined with more modern letter forms for increased legibility over that offered by black letter fonts. Unlike most black letter fonts, Hadron can be set all caps using the first level of caps. A basic design kernel based on the caps “O” and “H” was created first. These letter forms consist of an interplay between curves and straight lines with abrupt transitions and also possess some of the geometric crispness of a modern sans serif. The rest of the Hadron font was developed around this “O” and “H” kernel. This font could be used for any application requiring a formal black letter or foundational lettering look. Hadron could also be used for invitations, brochures and posters. The first level of caps and lower case is basic enough to set a large body of text. It could also be set all caps at that level.

I thought it would take me a week or two; to get the detail and spirit right took significantly longer– but it was well worth the effort! When you print Hermanz Titling on a page, you will see what I mean. Even when printed digitally, it’s the closest thing to letterpress. You might even have some people thing it was printed by a traditional method with ink! Dominated by a vigorous, african-inspired, jungle-like pattern, this contemporary, 21st century, sans serif font - African Jungle - contains an eclectic mix of elements from the 20th century. I love going to flea markets and second-hand stores; in fact a lot of the furniture in our home is second hand (or pre-loved, a euphemism I find rather peculiar). I personally believe that buying used products is a good way to help this planet, as no new stuff needs to be made and the old stuff gets a second life. Fleabitten is a ‘western style’ serif font. You could use it to pimp the posters for your line dance festival, but hey, be creative! I am sure you’ll find some good use for this very nice pre-loved font. Yes, pre-loved: I loved it first!

ITC Ludwig has an edge. It's nervous, tense - maybe even a little scary. Drawn by Italian designer Giuseppe Errico, ITC Ludwig refuses to be confined to a traditional baseline. Its twisted lowercase g" and an "e" that could double as an upside-down "a" both add to the design's spooky personality. As a young man, Errico studied to be a fine artist. He became a graphic designer only after a “long reflection period,” he says. His early training is evident in many of ITC Ludwig's suggestive qualities. There is far more to this face than cranking up the “distort” knob in Fontographer. Reflection and personal expression are at its core."

Bickley Script was designed by Alan Meeks in 1986 and is based on the handwriting forms popular at the end of the 19th century. The flowery capitals contrast beautifully with the delicate and reserved lower case letters, fit perfectly together and enhance the handwritten character of the font. Bickley Script looks as though it were written with a fine tipped pen and has an elegant, nostalgic charm. Memento is a 1993 design of the type artist Franco Luin, the creative mind behind a variety of types, for instance, Venus and Griffo Classico. Memento's high x-height allows it to be legible even in small point sizes. It is distinguished by its tiny triangular serifs, a characteristic reminiscent of the Dutch types of the 17th century. Memento is an extremely legible typeface with a classical touch. It is available in four different weights with corresponding italics and small caps. This range of weights along with its classic, neutral look makes it a versatile typeface which can be used in anything from books to corporate design to magazine typography.

The name Type Warmers JNL traces its lineage to small catalog booklets issued by Indianapolis' Cobb Shinn for his line of letterpress cuts; of which a few can be found included within this typeface. Presumably type could "warm up to" these stock illustrations and work hand-in-hand to deliver the message, hence the "Type Warmers" sobriquet. Originally known for illustrating many attractive and comical postcards of the early 1900s, Shinn moved into the field of purchasing stock art and redistributing them as electrotypes or "cuts", the predecessor to today's digital clip art. A number of the cartoons he sold can be found in the Shinn Kickers JNL font.

Once I set on the concept for this ‘Origami’ inspired font, I used an imaginary strip of folded paper as the basis for each character, the folded effect being realized fully by incorporating an incised line. Of course the folded paper aspect is just a two dimensional illusion but subconsciously, will automatically be interpreted three dimensionally. There are numerous options for creating alternative characters following this logic, as the centuries-old Origami tradition itself illustrates quite clearly, but I wanted to maintain an ordered sense of style and balance throughout the full character set, so avoided any unnecessary flourishes, staying true to the Japanese ethos and spirit.

Flyers, Intros from James Bond films and PlayStation games as well as the typeface Senator from Zuzane Licko inspired the Dutch designer Paul van der Laan to create his font Linotype Rezident. To its design, van der Laan says, I was designing a business card for a friend and I had a certain mood in mind for the typography. I tried to capture this mood in a couple of sketches, drew a few characters directly onscreen and just expanded them into a typeface." Erich Fehrle designed this robust alphabet for headlines and titles in 1976. The constructed figures of Linotype Fehrle Display were built on the geometric form of the rectangle. ITC Tremor is the work of British designer Alan Dempsey. You might think that it looks like the letters are in a seismically lively geological zone, but Dempsey had other kinds of motion in mind. Most of the faces I design come from trace 'work-outs' for advertising products. In the case of Tremor, it was to reflect a lively teenager," says Dempsey. The result is ITC Tremor, a cartoony slab serif typeface with irregular angles, straight-edged curves, and lines surrounding each character, making them look like they are jittery.

Francis is a design previously offered by the Lanston Type Co. in the early 1990s. It is a revival of a 1955 Günther Gerhard Lange design, but with a heavier overall weight. Deusa was designed with branding and advertising in mind. It was inspired by the perfume and fashion industries and intended to be an elegant and “clean” display typeface; characteristics which determined its sans-serif and significant contrast style attributes. The typeface includes multilingual support as well as standard ligatures and stylistic alternates. It also includes an “estimated” and Euro glyphs (the Euro as an alternate), both designed according to the official EU specifications.

Hounslow is closely related to Acton in structure, and takes the latter’s simple block construction into the third dimension. Three variants – open, solid and shadow – can be freely mixed in one setting for effect. Originally designed solely in the italic variant, an upright was added by request. A further unreleased set with a range of line weights was later commissioned by the New York Times magazine, and used extensively in their television supplement.

Obrigado means 'Thank You' in Portuguese. It is my way of saying thanks to the unknown designer of a Portuguese port-wine poster from the thirties. Obrigado font is based on that poster. As I had to work with a handful of glyphs, I designed the missing ones myself. Obrigado is a quite elegant and refined art deco font, which would be ideal for posters and logos. Obrigado speaks most Roman based languages.
