Burford is a font family that I sketched while traveling through Europe. I was mesmerized by all the unique typography that was showcased throughout the five countries I visited. Inspired by all that I had seen, I found myself spending 4-5 hours per day in Amsterdam’s Vondel Park drawing characters. Once back in the states I digitalized Burford, deciding it would make for a beautiful layer-based font. Burford Pro package comes with all 18 layering fonts including 5 base layers, 3 top layers, 5 bottom layers and 2 sets of graphic elements. They are strategically made to build on top of each other, creating a cohesive and easy to use layer-based family. Each font also comes with a set of Stylistic Alternatives for letters A C E F G H P Q R. Vanitas is an elegant high contrast contemporary sans. It is rooted in the style of a classic didone, excluding the typical serifs and ball terminals as well as being designed with a cleaner, more reductionist appearance. Strict attention was given to the cohesiveness and balance between letterforms as well as the careful refinement of all curves. Stylistically, Vanitas’ alluring, sophisticated sensibility is directly inspired by high fashion. The upright styles are complimented by a pairing of optically adjusted true italics, which were purposefully adapted to retain the sharpness of their counterparts. Abandoning traditionally executed cursive italic letterforms retains Vanitas’ sharp characteristic through each style. A narrow, modern Slab Serif. JOSEFOV is directly derived from the sans serif text font ”Hedwig“. Therefore, of course, it pairs best with “Hedwig”. The basic thought was to create a font with heavy rounded serifs in the style of ”Clarendon“ but which hardly reminds one of that particular font. The form principle of rounded serifs is applied whenever possible — for example at the points where the individual strokes of the characters join one another. JOSEFOV seems very technical, very constructed (and truly is). In order to soften up the rigid impression, the serifs are applied at some points contrary to the tradition handed down, as with the upper case A C G K M V W and the lower case a b d h i j k l s t. Historically there is no example of the laterally oriented serifs of capital and small s (S) and C G. On the other hand, the double-sided serifs on the stems of b d h k l appear at the beginning of modern times in the very first serif types from five hundred years ago. The double-sided serifs of A M V W were also customary in the first decades of printing. JOSEVOV is particularly suitable for topics such as nature, folklore, culture, music, nutrition.

Chalice is a new original Canada Type family inspired by two different engraving eras and locations: Medieval England and 19th century Russia. Chalice's construct is geometric at heart, though the wedge serifs and their contribution to the overall idiosyncrasies of the counterspace give it a spirit entirely different from usual geometric types. Chalice's personality is that of a knowledgeable advisor, clinical yet old-fashioned, aware yet unsurprised, secular yet serene, clear yet artistic, hungry yet redeemable. Chalice comes in 4 weights, light to black, that range in expression from a sobering wise whisper of confidence all the way to the bells and whistles of Judgment Day. Such flexibility in expression among the different weights of the same typeface of this kind is quite rare, and will be appreciated by discriminating graphic artists who require more than just another tombstone type. P22 Phantasmagoria is a stylized Celtic-meets-Futurist font has multiple variations as a geometric majuscule. ArchiLogo is not a regular outline-font. It has a stencil element to it and it’s a kind of indirect, because the font is basically the space between the lines. You have to read between the lines, so to speak. It’s like one of the key elements in architecture: the space between the walls. Here’s where type design meets architecture! The new version, ArchiLogo 3.0, has been improved slightly and 13 glyphs have been added to a total of 85 characters. It is still a free font. Because of the popularity of this font I decided to introduce ArchiLogo Pro. Indeed, the pro version of ArchiLogo. Besides the basic Macintosh Character Set the supported languages are Latin 1, Latin 2: Eastern Europe, Turkish, Windows Baltic. It grew to over 300 glyphs.

Fimfarum is a word that the Czech actor and writer Jan Werich created for one of his magical fairy tales for children and adults. Fimfarum is also the name of this playful typeface equipped with various styles simulating the randomness of handwriting. You can choose to select and combine different styles either using an all-in-one pro font in an OpenType-savvy application, or with a 10 fonts family pack. AltraTwo is a complete redraw of a family based on a tracing of a clip art font from an old printed book. The AltraTwo family adds italic, black, and black italic. I liked the gentle calligraphic look. Consider it a sans serif with style. This is a typical NuevoDeco OpenType pro font with caps, lowercase, small caps, lining, oldstyle, and small cap figures, numerators, denominators, fractions, swashes, and so on. There aren't many unusal ligatures for this one, though. It does have the Latin 2 character set or what Adobe calls CE, Central European characters. Altra has been my preferred header face for sevral years. it also works very well for body copy. I usually use it for my contrasting tip and quote paragraphs with Bergsland Pro as my normal body copy.

This type family is a revival of the old and famous Frank Rühl from 1924. With less contrast the 2 weights make it more readable and pleasant to the eye too. The inspiration source for MFC Falconer Monogram is an unusual hand-drawn design from a vintage embroidery publication which relies on rigid geometric letterforms to create an upward stepping framework. This monogram which evokes visions of it embossed or printed on antique baking tins was originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs, but the possibilities of its use are up to your imagination. This is one of many monogram designs from the early 1900’s which fall into a two letter format that is either adorned or interwoven decorative elements. Montauk Pro is named after a small village in Suffolk County, New York on the South Shore of Long Island. It is the easternmost area in Long Island, and thus the easternmost area in New York State. It is home to Montauk Point State Park, site of the Montauk Point Lighthouse. It is named after the Montauk Indians. Montauk Pro is a casual, jaunty and quite beautiful handwriting script. It comes with six styles as light, light italic, regular, regular italic, bold and bold italic, each style with about 1.000 characters covering the complete Latin glyph set for West and East including Baltic and Turkish, including a large selection of ligatures, character combinations and alternates to make this beautiful script design a perfect font for OTF-savvy applications like e.g. InDesign or Quark Xpress 7.

Carlton is based on a typeface designed by Prof. F. H. Ehmcke. In 1908, Ehmcke released his Ehmcke-Antiqua design through the Flinsch typefoundry in Germany. Ehmcke-Antiqua was later distributed by the Bauer typefoundry in Frankfurt am Main. The Caslon Letter Foundry in England discovered the design and released their own typeface based upon the model, which they named Carlton. Carlton entered the Stephenson Blake program after they acquired the Caslon Letter Foundry in the late 1930s. As hot and cold metal typesetting became outdated technologies, Carlton and Ehmcke-Antiqua fell out of general use. In the 1990s, Letraset revived this classic design, distributing it under its English name, Carlton. Carlton's clean and generous capitals, as well as its understated yet detailed lower case, have found popularity again in recent years. The elegance of Carlton is best used for displays with large letter and word spacing. Carlton shows all of the hallmarks of a delicate serif typeface design; its forms capture a distinct moment that was common within Central European type design during the first third of the 20th Century. Carlton is similar to several other expressive typefaces from the early 1900s, including Bernhard Modern, Koch Antiqua, Locarno, and Nicolas Cochin."

It's not everyday that you want to have dark chocolate with your favorite latté. But sometimes, as out of the ordinary as it is, it can be just the ticket. Cafelatte's design offers a somewhat unpolished calligraphic concept, reminiscent of wooden type, but done with the unique brush of Angel Koziupa and Bezier wizardry of Alejandro Paul. Graphique was originally created by Swiss designer Hermann Edenbenz in 1945, and issued as hot metal font by Haas'sche Schriftgie�erei, Switzerland.German type designer Ralph M. Unger digitally remastered and expanded the typeface for profonts, and the digital OTF Pro version comprises of more than 400 characters including the complete Latin and Cyrillic glyph sets.

Pekin is an unusual design with an oriental flavor. It was originally designed by Ernst Lauschke and released by The Great Western Type Foundry of Chicago as “Dormer,” which is similar to the French verb ‘to sleep,’ not exactly a marketing triumph. Barnhart Bros. And Spindler (independently-operated subsidiary of ATF since 1911) bought Great Western in 1918. According to McGrew, AMERICAN METAL TYPEFACES of the TWENTIETH CENTURY, BB&S renamed the typeface prior printing their 1925 specimen book — guess they wanted something just a tad more exciting. Quirky, distinctive and fun. Pekin ML represents a major extension of the original release, with the following changes: 1. Added glyphs for the 1250 Central Europe, the 1252 Turkish and the 1257 Baltic Code Pages. Added glyphs to complete standard 1252 Western Europe Code Page. There is an OTF version which is in Open PS (Post Script Type 1) format and a TTF version which is in Open TT (True Type)format. Use whichever works best for your applications.

What would a typeface look like that used a gothic arch, a feature of medieval architecture, as its motif? I decided to find out and the result was not beautiful but frightful. GothicHorror uses a pointed arch almost everywhere that it can be used and is unlike anything else. It is ugly, but for some uses that ugliness is a virtue.

An offering from Barnhart Brothers & Spindler’s Catalog No. 9 from 1907, with the rather prosaic name of "Lining Gothic No. 71", inspired this non-nonsense and surprisingly ageless face. Stitch Warrior is a a gothic style stitch font. It's made of cross stitches ("x") even the kerning - the distance between the letter pairs varies between 1, 2 or 3 stitches distance. The first in a series of typefaces based on the work of legendary lettering artist Alf Becker, whose works appeared in Signs of the Times magazine for almost thirty years. Originally titled "Extreme Thin Gothic", this was Becker’s 185th design for the magazine.
