Solantra is a solidly crafted handwritten script. I’ve long felt that beautiful writing is more pleasing to the eye than the more attention grabbing swashes and flourishes. That being said, both have their role in design and Solantra has a large slice of each. Solantra combines vintage style handwriting with all its quirks and English Roundhand of that same era. The result is a solid setting script filled with charm and personality. With default Adobe Illustrator settings for Ligatures and Contextual Alternates active, the vintage charm is in full display. Want to add more flair? There are loads of more embellished letters inside the full version. Solantro takes into account how scripts are actually written so that connections from letter to letter are more fluid and rhythmic than the average script font. In natural script/handwriting most letters end at the bottom right and move up to connect with the next. Some letters like o, v, and w, however; end at the top right. Rather than force these letters to dip down and go back up they should ideally connect from that upper right point. This is accomplished through a series of alternate letters and ligatures with extensive contextual feature programming. So, for example, you might get one version of a ligature in the middle of a word and a different one at the beginning or end of that word. Solantra also takes into account another often overlooked feature of natural handwriting. When you write you inevitably pick your pen up from the paper at times. This is often just to reposition the hand, but in the days of writing with dip pens this was also needed to attain a fresh supply of ink. Having these occasional breaks in connections makes the writing less static and more rhythmic. While the Basic versions are limited to a standard character set and several ligatures and alternates for better settings of text, the full pro versions contains 1292 glyphs and an abundance of features. Even with numbers there are options like Oldstyle numbers, fractions, and ordinals. Central European language support is included as well as some select ligatures that use accents. Hand drawn narrow typeface designed for one of our books. You can layer different styles over the background style to achieve lots of colorful effects. Use just one style to get a single color letter or set the shadow and fill over the background style to get a full, three color mode. Mr Happy has upper and lowercase characters with up to three alternate glyphs. Build in OpenType Contextual Alternates feature will automatically set alternate glyphs depending on frequency of appearance of the same character (even in web font but only in HTML5 browsers). The script doesn’t throw random glyphs. For example in the word “HIPPOPOTAMUS” you will automatically get three different “P” glyphs and two “O” glyphs. It really works great but of course you can always fine tune it by hand.

Willard T. Sniffin deserves the credit for this charming little stationery and greeting card typeface developed for American Type Founders in 1930. Capital letters show an occasional hint of ornamentation and lowercase letters are of the linking variety. The original set of exquisite alternate characters (A,B,G,T,V, W, o, s) has been included in this digital version. Adonis Old Style is ideal where a 1920s or 30s script-like lettering look is required. Adonis Old Style with Alternates is also available in the OpenType Std format. Some new characters have been added to this OpenType version. Advanced features currently work in Adobe Creative Suite InDesign, Creative Suite Illustrator, and Quark XPress 7. Check for OpenType advanced feature support in other applications as it gradually becomes available with upgrades.

Stanzer is an interpretation of wood type combined with the idea of modern stencils. Instead of cutting every letter, we are presenting an example of how a modern stencil typeface could look like, as we have come to the conclusion that almost every letter works without cutting it. Stanzer is a Unicase typeface, available in three OpenType weights: Black, Shadow and Block. Stanzer first started as part of our diploma 2010 (it was called Stanley at that time). The basic idea behind this typeface is that it is fully stencil usable, and, unlike other stencil fonts, does not require any bridges (except for the O and Q). Almost every letter can be sprayed without inserting planks. However, Stanzer also offers the display weight Block, which is only suitable for print or online usage.

Esteric, originally created with a concept of happiness, fun and playful. Designed initially as an all-caps font. Lowercase are just slightly lower than Capitals. Also, Esteric is created with some OpenType features, such as stylistic alternates, interlocks, and tons of ligatures. Joy and Playful guaranteed! What is interlock? When you are using the stylistic of a rounded letter O and meet another letter with stylistic rounded forms like C and G, glyphs define the space and merged like a ligature. Best scene for using Esteric place like a Party, Happy Events, Fun projects. Any media is suitable based on the concept. But Esteric won’t fit with an serious type of project. Please note that OpenType features are only available in programs that support them, such as Illustrator, Indesign, Quark or Photoshop.

Pounder Fonts were designed by Tom Nikosey / CozyFonts Foundry. This font, as all my fonts started with pencil sketches based on the letter O. Once I arrived at the comfortable shape I worked out the C, G, & Q. The H, M, T matched the visual weight and so I moved on to E & S. As the E & S are 2 of the most repeated characters in fonts' I wanted a little bit extra here. The font is obviously heavy weighted yet very legible and almost architectural in presence. There are flashes of Art Deco yet futuristic style. After sketching the feel of this font I was excited by the possibility of the numerals styling. I can see these used for many applications. Why the title Pounder? Why not it seems to fit.

Yes, it’s easy to be mean -- but why should anybody else have all the fun? Or all the fonts?

This typeface comes from a self initiated project called Sápmi, which aims to contribute to keep a group of minority languages alive through solving issues in the education environment. This re-thought edition takes the name of Aanaar and joins our library with a bigger character set and two new weights which complete the typeface providing a big typographic palette as well as adding stylistic two-story a and g for more advanced readers as well as to enable the typeface to be used in other environments. The typeface was originally designed for children’s text books. Analysing kid’s typeface design, we identified some important problems and solved them within the boundaries we had. The main concern in a typeface which will be used by children is letter recognition, as they have not yet fully develop their reading skills. For example, letters like “a” and “g” share a very similar structure in this particular kind of typefaces, where the only distinctive part is the descender of the “g”. It is known that the lower part of the letter is the less important feature when reading, therefore we decided to make a clear distinction between them by having an “a” with a spur on the top right. This also helped distinguishing “a” and “o”. Children typefaces usually have one story “a”, making “a” usually too close to “o”. Additionally we moved the joint in “a” upwards and narrowed very slightly the “a” to make sure they cannot be mistaken. More generally, the x-height is fairly tall and the typeface has a bit of movement which give it a good rhythm helping moving along nicely when reading. Aanaar consists of 5 weights (Light, Regular, Medium, Bold and Black) plus two Italics (Light Italic and Italic).

Defense is an unyielding rectangular slab-serif stencil face designed with consistently balanced letterforms and a refined finish. It’s extremely angular geometric form commands attention in display settings, yet is also legible in short text blocks. The stencil mark width varies accordingly with each weight, helping to further define each style. Numerous alternate character sets allow room for customization, while the expanded ligatures push letter combinations to the limit. Stylistically, Defense’s almost crude, sharp-cornered construction is balanced by it’s sophisticated finish and attention to detail, often unrealized in similar faces of this genre. The upright weights are complimented by pairings of true italics, completely rebuilt, slightly narrower in width with modified letterforms, increasing their contrast and flow. The Scriptuale family, which contains eight styles, is a contemporary upright calligraphic face. Designed by German designer Renate Weise in 2003, this family of typefaces speaks to the present, while at the same time reflecting on a lyrical past. The letterforms of the Scriptuale family are romanticized, they reference German calligraphic styles from the 19th and early 20th Centuries. For instance the design of Scriptuale's uppercase strays from the canon of classical proportion into romantic idealism. While the C and O are drawn according to the ancient quadratic proportions - almost twice as wide, optically, as the E or the L - the letter A is wider than would be expected, and the D narrower. These subtle differences introduce a different rhythm into text set in Scriptuale than Italic styles of calligraphy may offer. Scriptuale's Gs merit special notice: both the upper and lower case G lunge slightly forward, further enhancing the dynamic quality of the text. Also unique in Scriptuale's design is the lowercase width: the letterforms appear slightly condensed; they have large x-heights to compensate for this. In a delightful twist, the number 2's beak has been closed by drawing it full-circle, back into the stem: this references a style of letter design that was practiced, among other places, by artists from the old Klingspor foundry in Offenbach Germany. Typefaces constructed there easily captured the zeitgeist of the romantic period, but are less calligraphic than Scriptuale (e.g., Rudolf Koch's Koch Antiqua). A semi-serif face (like Prof. Hermann Zapf's Optima or Otl Aicher's Rotis Semi), some of Scriptuale's letters have serifs (D), and some do not (A). And although both the B and the E normally have the same "structure" on their left side, Weise has drawn them differently in Scriptuale. These strengthen the calligraphic-like quality of the family. Traces of the pen are easy to see in Scriptuale's design; it is a thoroughly calligraphic face. The eight typefaces in the Scriptuale family include Light, Regular, Semi Bold, and Bold weights. Each weight has a companion italic. Scriptuale is similar to one other contemporary calligraphic family in the Linotype portfolio, Anasdair , from British designer

Patricia Pothin-Roesch's Tendria typeface bases its letterforms on the logo for the French “Tendriade” mark. Clearly inspired by writing and hand lettering, Patricia Pothin-Roesch began her work on Tendria in Adobe Illustrator. After a few letters, she went back to designing the old-fashioned way: drawing by hand on layers of tracing paper. Tendria is a sturdy upright script face with a warm, childlike feeling. Its letters are like the typefaces often used in primary schools; the counterforms are large and open. The name Tendria is reminiscent of the French word for tender, “tendre.” Designers who set Tendria lovingly will reap rewards; this is an excellent addition to a display heading toolkit.

Delphi grew from a logotype Lily Feinberg produced using Greek-column-inspired letterforms. As that concept expanded to include more and more letters, the typeface had its beginnings. Intertwined, kinetic, and deliberate, Delphi carves itself onto the page and screen, encouraging variation and experimentation. The letterforms’ unique construction and predispostion for experimentation inspired two varying sets: Delphi Dio, comprised of two-line strokes, and Delphi Tria, built of both 2- and 3-line strokes.
