Linotype BioPlasm is a display face created by Italian design Mauro Carichini in 2002. It distorts and deletes parts of letters, creating the appearance of a living, typographic organism in pages of text. Lines set in Linotype BioPlasm seems bubble to the surface, and always hints at some sort of unrevealed secret. Although only parts of most letterforms are visible, the high x-heights of Linotype BioPlasm's letters make its text surprisingly legible for such a concept-font. For usage in products ranging from Sonic to Science, Linotype BioPlasm may be the font for you!

During the years of physically doing camera-ready paste-up work before the advent of the digital age, clip art books dominated the way stock art was added to a print project. Clip art books were eventually replaced by clip art CDs, DVDs and online download sites, just as the books themselves had replaced the stock photo engravings of the letterpress era. Jochen Schuss designed Linotype Paint It in 1997 with exclusively capital letters and in two weights. The best way to describe the weight Paint It might be to compare it with a labyrinth in which the figures only become clear to the reader dedicated to finding them. Lachrymose is a word that stems from ‘lacrima’, the Latin word for tear. It means ‘tearful’, or ‘given to weeping’. Now, before y’all think I am depressed or so - I am not. I just like the sound of this word and the way it is written. All I needed to do was to build a font for it! Lachrymose is a handmade brush font. I used my fantastic Chinese ink and a cheap brush to create the glyphs. Lachrymose is a display font, so use it for anything display-ish.

My wife was watching a baking show in which a Scottish guy attempted to cook a clootie. A what?? A clootie??? Never heard of a clootie! Apparently it is a suet dumpling, containing dried fruits (like raisins) and boiled in a piece of cloth (clootie means ‘rag’ or ‘strip of cloth’ in Scottish). Clootie font is a handmade bundle of happiness. It is rounded, soft and legible and will look particularly good on book covers. And I promise you all: one day I will cook clooties to find out what they taste like!

Munky, a big bowl full of slab serif goodness. It's got a cheeky, playful look with large, heavy serifs. Its shapes have a few kinks here and there. I would say that adds to its charm—and it does. It's great for headlines and titles but is also very legible in sentence case. It works great for branding and packaging, books, invitations and anything where you want a laid-back vibe—without being too childish. If the font were a celebrity, it would be more John Candy than John Malkovich.

This family was inspired by an engraved plate from Diderot & Dalembert's Encyclopedia (publication beginning in 1751), illustrating the chapter devoted to letter engraving techniques. The plate bears two engravers names : "Aubin" (may be one of the four St Aubin brothers ?)and "Benard" ( which name is present below all plates of the Encyclopedia printed in Geneva ). It seems to be a transitional type, but different from Fournier or Grandjean. Small caps are included in fonts for TTF and OTF version, separate files are included in the family sets of the Mac TT version.

The 1930 Geneva Motor Show (Salon International De l'Automobile Et Du Cycle) showcased a lot of new cars, but one item in particular took my interest: the amazing art deco poster announcing the show. Lokomotiv font was based on this poster. It is a very deco-ish font, futuristic, angular, with bold squares, rounds and triangles. As I had to work with just a handful of glyphs, and needed to fill an entire font, I made up the missing ones myself. Lokomotiv, by the way, is German for Locomotive.

This variation of Tangential (see also the Standard & Semi Serif variants) continues with the angles that give the typeface its name; however, the square terminals are half-rounded to create a softer and slightly more fluid styling. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop-shaped ‘o,’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. Available in 2 weights, Regular & Bold, in both OpenType OTF & TrueType TTF formats.

Swedish Runes Swedish Runes is a way to write Swedish with medieval runes devised by Sven Salvenson. Proto-Norse was written with Elder Futhark runes, and viking age runes were in Younger Futhark (an adaptation of Elder Futhark). Then early Old Norse was written in medieval runes (an adaption of Younger Futhark). Sven decided to carry on that tradition and adapt the medieval runic alphabet for modern Swedish. Sys is a condensed font designed to work well at small sizes (i.e. phone books, maps, or the like) but it has enough personality to be used at big sizes, too. The TrueType version, thanks to its incredibly accurate hinting, may be used to replace amazingly well TrueType system fonts in every platforms, in web or other screen applications. A few fonts ago I mentioned the fact that I like posh English words; words you don’t really use in conversation. As I am busy expanding my ‘halloween’ font collection, I came across the beautiful word Nefarious. It means wicked or evil and when you say the word, it even sounds evil! Fantastic! Nefarious is a halloween/witches font. It looks like my Griezelig font, but it is rougher and spikier. Use Nefarious for your halloween invitations, posters and books about evil geniuses. Comes with all diacritics and a bunch of swashes as well.

Her father named her Estella Dawn, or morning star. She truly shines bright, for as the owner of Stella Roberts Fonts, she has dedicated part of her net profits to helping her siblings pay for their medication; they both suffer from Cystic Fibrosis and diabetes. Calm in spirit, loyal to friends and family, nurturing and caring-- Stella has been a friend of Jeff Levine's for years. His Estella JNL font was dedicated to her, as is this other namesake font, Morningstar JNL. The design is a cross between retro-techno and a slight calligraphic touch.

This family is inspired by the small hands used in the 1700’s 1800’s to write messages carried by carrier pigeons, also named “homers”, before the use of photography and microfilms in the same way. So, it is a “small eye” or "small x-height" font. It is enriched with numerous alternates and ligatures, as to look like a various real and written manual. The standard characters set is completed with accented or specific characters for Western (Including Celtic) and Central Europe, Baltic, Eastern Europe and Turkish.

The Women's Suffrage Movement gained women the right to vote in 1920. Up until then there were many ways undertaken to rally sympathy for the cause. In 1916 Alice Paul formed the National Woman's Party. That same year a song with the [exhaustive] sixteen word title "She's Good Enough to be Your Baby's Mother (And She's Good Enough to Vote with You)" yielded a hand lettered Art Nouveau sans serif design in the main portion of the title. This became the basis for Plain Nouveau JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Bodoni Classic Stencil is another of my personal additions to the Bodoni Classic Family that Giambattista would have never made. In his days people had enough skill and the neccessary time to put beautiful handlettering on parcels and cases. No need for stencils! Today we do not need them either since shipping has gone barcode crazy, but for some reason stencil-letters are very much in fashion.
