The 1930 Geneva Motor Show (Salon International De l'Automobile Et Du Cycle) showcased a lot of new cars, but one item in particular took my interest: the amazing art deco poster announcing the show. Lokomotiv font was based on this poster. It is a very deco-ish font, futuristic, angular, with bold squares, rounds and triangles. As I had to work with just a handful of glyphs, and needed to fill an entire font, I made up the missing ones myself. Lokomotiv, by the way, is German for Locomotive.

Fledermaus (meaning 'Bat' in German) was a cabaret theater from Vienna. The original Jugendstil decor was designed by Josef Hoffman and several posters, advertising performances, were designed by other members of the Vienna Workshop. Fledermaus font was based on a 1907 poster by Bertold Löffler. Since only a few glyphs were available, I designed the missing ones myself. The lower case consists of small caps and the font comes with extensive language support.

Front Row JNL is an all-caps reinterpretation of Morris Fuller Benton's 1937 type design "Empire", and is available in both regular and oblique versions. As is often the case when a digital type font is based on a few letter examples found on a printed sample [in this case, the sheet music of the 1946 Guy Lombardo hit "What More Can I Ask For"], the missing characters were drawn from scratch.

Spotted for sale online, a partial set of antique tin stencils from France had a distinctively handmade look about them. Many of the characters were inconsistently wider than others, some characters were missing and one was damaged. Despite the obvious flaws, the image of these stencils served as the model for a digital font revival once the characters took on a more uniform appearance. French Stencil Serif JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

This family was created inspired from the two sets of rough initials fonts used by the famous William Caxton in Westminster (GB) in the late 1400’s. As it was normal for the time, there were not any differences between I and J, U and V. It is not a mistake. We have reconstructed the few other missing characters. Based on the late 1970s artwork by outstanding Armenian type designer Henrik Mnatsakanyan (1923-2001). That was the only design created by Mnatsakanyan for Latin and Cyrillic. Digital version with adding the missing characters was designed for ParaType in 2003 by Manvel Shmavonyan. The font name Henman proposed by Mnatsakanyan is formed of the first three letters from the each designer's name: HENrik and MANvel. Loppemarked is Flea market in danish, and that’s where I got the inspiration to do these fonts from! Headline - chunky serifs here and there, and some are missing! No attempt to get it right…anywhere! Text - The letters are scribbled quickly, leaving not much attention to accuracy. Sans - With this font, there has been some effort to hit the same width of strokes, but it is still off here and there. All in all, the sweet innocence in these letters…I love it! <3</p>
