Two years ago I went on a camping holiday in England with my wife and (then two) small children. The first stop was a nature campsite near the village of Bodiam in East Sussex. My son wanted to see a real castle, so I figured Bodiam Castle was the 'realest' of them all! He loved it, as the castle had a moat, crenellated walls, a bunch of towers and a guy dressed up as a knight. Bodiam font is a rough didone-ish affair. It is all caps, but you can freely mix upper and lower case. It would be ideal for book covers, posters and maybe even for castles. Comes with a treasure chest of diacritics.

Bolívar is a contemporary display typeface inspired in the handwriting of one of the most prominent personalities of the Latin American 19th century: Simón Bolívar, “the liberator". The typeface intends to capture the passion of handwritten letterforms and to translate it into type. Among the characteristics that best contribute to its strong personality, are the impressive length of ascenders and descenders as well as the more than 45 degrees of slant. Bolívar mimics certain aspects of handwriting such as the slightly different baseline for each letter and ink clogs in the counters of some letters. Use Bolívar whenever you need to add passion to a piece of text, from logos or single words to sentences and captions.

Designed by Arthur Baker in 1994 for URW, Kigali is a wide-bodied display type with bold, uneven, pen-drawn strokes that taper dramatically downward. This unusual theme creates a unique, recognizable look. Furthering the effect, the Kigali typeface family contains additional decorative design fonts, one with a zigzag pattern filling the spacious strokes, and another with the letters in black squares for use as ornamental initials. The regular and italic versions include two alternate faces: one with long, tall ascenders and regular-length descenders, and one with shortened ascenders and descenders that allow it to fit where its companion might not. Silvan Kaesar designed Seedbad after observing the unique sign lettering along the shores of Lake Geneva's bathing area. Holgada font family has been designed for Graviton Font Foundry by Pablo Balcells in 2020. It is a geometric sans serif typeface with refined rounded endings that provide a soft and friendly appearance. Its generic shapes make it suitable for any kind of project, text length and size. Thanks to its clear legibility, it can be used in long body texts in very small sizes, in big size headlines and everything in between. The rounded endings not only provide a particular softness when used in body text, but also a distinctive touch when used in display situations such as logos and headlines. Holgada consists of 12 styles, each containing small caps and glyph coverage for several languages.

Hamuel Nine Five was inspired by two sources, both with few letters, and different styles. The first one was a fresco in the el-Transito Synagogue, Toledo, built in 1357 by order of Samuel Abulafia, treasurer to the king of Castile. The second one was a mezuzah cover, Morocco, 19th century. Hamuel Nine Five is an OpenType/TTF Unicode font.

This jaunty display face was discovered in one of the many books on sign writing produced by Eric Matthews. The work was signed “King Cole", hence the font’s name. This typeface’s large x-height and tight spacing make it highly suitable for attention-grabbing headlines. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

The 1907 Barnhart Brothers & Spindler type specimen catalog called this unique typeface simply "Umbra". Since that name is already taken, it now has another. Due to the highly ornate nature of this face, the font has a limited character set (all accented characters, but no math operators or fractions). The Opentype version of this font supports Unicode 1250 (Central European) languages, as well as Unicode 1252 (Latin) languages.

The original source of design for Sign Sans JNL was an image online of an old New York drinking establishment called the Lenox Lounge. The metal channels encasing the neon had an unusual "feel" to some of the letters. While the original E,G and U of the sign looked "interesting", they didn't quite fit the font's layout. Those letters were scrapped for more traditional versions of them.

When Joe Madureira saw the custom font we'd created for Jim Lee, he called us up immediately and uttered the immortal words... "I Want One!" We were, of course, only too happy to oblige. Now, this very font, based upon Joe's own handwriting, is available. A calligrapher, graphic designer and teacher, Duško Trifunović of Belgrade created this handsome calligraphic typeface called Sloboda. It has an open design, an outline of sorts, and though the lowercase is small and compact, it sets beautifully in text. The generously sized uppercase has a swash flavor to it yet works harmoniously with itself. This OpenType font has extra ligatures and the extended character set supports Central Europe.

Another addition to the Whiz Bang Woodtype series, this typeface is a double-wide, extrabold version of the so-called Tuscan style of lettering, popular at the end of the nineteenth century. Named after a small town in Texas, which the locals pronounce "meh-HAY-a." Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

This typeface bears a superficial resemblance to Belwe Extrabold, but is based on a work called Thor, issued by Frederic Wesselhoeft Ltd of London in the 1930s. The characters in this font are loosely spaced for use in attention-getting subheads, but you can tighten the tracking to get spectacular headlines, should you wish. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

The typeface which inspired this offering was originally called "Chaucer", not because it is typical of lettering of Chaucer’s time (which it is not) but, more likely, because it’s pretty funny, even if the humor is low. One of the text fonts showcased within the pages of the John Ryan Foundry (Baltimore, MD) specimen book from 1894 is a squared type face with rounded corners called “Geometric”. The original design has been updated slightly by substituting straight lines for the inner corner curves to add a small contemporary touch to a classic alphabet from the 19th century. Business Letter JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Bodoni Classic Swashes is my personal addition to Bodoni’s family of typefaces. Bodoni did not design a decorative version. His quest was for purity in book design. Even though in his days it was not called design; he thought of himself purely as a printer. Back in 2013 I released an all caps font called Rum Doodle. Rum Doodle is a really nice, really weird font with angular glyphs and a unique look. I decided that it would be nice to tweak this font a bit and design a lower case for it. The result is Chew On This. I chose that name for no apparent reason - so don’t make a fuss about it…
