The courageous Russian author of the best seller Anastasia, Vladimir Megre, once said that this remarkable woman would inspire creative people around the world to produce their best work. Since I consider myself a creative person who has been deeply touched by her story, I sincerely hope that this will be true for me also. Anastasia talks a lot about God, the wonders of the natural world and how all things have been created so perfectly. This belief in universal perfection, however, is not confined to mystics alone. Many great mathematicians and scientists, including Albert Einstein, were of the same opinion. Having read Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, I became quite fascinated with the so-called Fibonacci series; "a sequence of integers in which each integer (Fibonacci number) after the second is the sum of the two preceding integers; specif., the series 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, . . ." (Webster’s Dictionary). These mysterious numbers, which are said to give divine proportions, are found throughout nature in everything from a rose to a spiral galaxy. Many believe that this reinforces the argument that there is a divine intelligence back of creation. With that in mind, I thought it would be interesting to see if I could somehow create a font using these numbers in the design process. If I have succeeded - even partially - in attaining these mystical proportions, it will definitely have been worth all the hard work. And, I sincerely hope that many will enjoy using this font in producing their own best work.

The name Corpid derives from “Corporate Identity” — which is what this family of low-contrast sans-serifs was made for. Corpid was originally commissioned by Studio Dumbar in the Netherlands as a corporate typeface for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fishing. The font was designed to replace the existing standard typeface (a well-known business-like sans-serif) to provide the organization with a unique and strong identity. Although it was designed to fit strict technical requirements, Corpid has a personality all of its own. This was in part a result of what Luc(as) calls “creating tension” between the inner and outer curves of each character. “I tend to put a little more diagonal contrast into fonts than is the case in most neutral sans serif fonts. This brings a certain humanistic touch to the typeface. Much more subtle here than in Thesis – but although it is almost invisible, it is still palpable.” Corpid was gradually expanded into a five-weight, three-width family. M Ling Wai was written with a thin ball pen by a young woman in a unique, personal, running writing style, such that it is real, natural and feminine. Contrast of strokes is low and the text is visible and eye-catching. Its light to medium stems (豎) make it suitable for small text and subheading with little conglutination. All strokes are highly irregular, inconsistent, irregularly oriented and tightly coupled or connected. Spatial distribution, positioning, size and relative proportion of radicals fully reflect a natural and personal favor. It is one of the first proportional width font in a full scale. It is best suited for casual lively text, illustrations, set upright (non-slanted), non-condensed.

Based on a German mid-century lettering specimen by Nerdinger, designer Alejandro Paul expanded the face into an extensive family, with 5 weights, italics, and a 2 weights stencil version. Its tall letterforms and sturdy serifs give it a noble bearing when set in all caps; in the lower case its large x-height and spacious counters imbue it with a welcoming tone. If you'd like to scream, but you have no self esteem, or you'd love to start a fight, but you're scared of the night, I made this font for you all, whether you're short or tall. Monden is wide, gentle and fun, but it wasn't born under the Sun, it was my intention to make it unique, I surely hope I didn't make some freak, it looks a bit classical, in moments maybe here and there radical, but it surely is really graphical with a dose of something magical. I've been working on a usable sans serif for body copy since the mid-1990s (though I certainly did not know it at the time). This one works well. It started life back in the mists of time as a scan of an old German font by Carl Fahrenwaldt. It was developed fully as a synergized serif with strong traditional roots and released as Bergsland Pro. Now it finally makes it to where I was headed all along as a sans text font. This is a well modulated humanist, sans serif font family with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters, ordinal numbers, and so on. It is designed for text use in body copy. But it also works very well for elegantly stylized display.

The old Norse legend of Thorben Odinson is a cautionary tale. And this typeface, like the nebulous kingdom he ruled, is something of a cloudy concoction. Thorben the typeface is something of an inspiration-hybrid, pulling aspects from multiple sources and combining them into a typeface that strangely seems to work (or not – depending on your point of view). What started as a redrawing of some old carvings (on a castle wall in deepest, darkest Suffolk), is now something entirely different.
