I've been in a vintage-meets-modern mood in my most recent font construction, and this is no exception. Whiskey Tango is a fun retro-style tall and narrow sans-serif font with a scoop of variety: it includes over 110 items in the Private Use Area, including small caps, alternates, ligatures, and ordinal indicators. There's just enough imbalance in stroke widths to make this font a little goofy and quirky, and really charming. All of the lines and curves are clean and sharp, making it great for text that's large, medium, or small. And it's great for crafting as well! As usual for me, this font contains over 300 extended Latin characters for language support, as well as full uppercase and lowercase sets of Greek and Cyrillic characters. I am a HUGE fan of Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’. Ever since a television series has been made, the series of books is also know as ‘The Last Kingdom’. I have read them all, at break-neck speed and I can’t wait for the next book!! Wintanceastre (Winchester) is based on a 10th century Latin manuscript. I have tried to stay close to the original letters, but since Latin does not have all modern glyphs, I found myself designing the missing ones. So, before you scold me for having made a font that is historically inaccurate: it was never meant to be an exact replica, nor would anyone want an exact replica, as it would be useless for modern texts and designs. Eggad features letters on eggs. It can be a fun font to use at Easter or for any egg-related message. Some of the eggs - those on the upper-case keys - have their large end on the bottom and others - those on the lower-case keys - have their large end on the top. The font uses the contextual alternatives feature of OpenType to alternate the big-bottom and big-top eggs. If you only want eggs with big tops or with big bottoms, turn this feature off. I was playing around with an old brush I found in our kitchen: it had fallen under the stove and it had probably been hiding there for quite some time! The dearJoe series of fonts came to life around the year 1999, when I created dearJoe 1, which was a first (and half-assed) attempt to convert my own handwriting into a working font. Being able to type in my own hand had always been a childhood fantasy, and even though I only partly understood the software, a working font was generated and I decided to put it on the internet for people to use in their own personal projects. Which they did: at this moment the dearJoe 1 font has been downloaded millions of times and can be found on Vietnamese riksjas, Tasmanian gyms and chocolate stores on 5th Avenue for instance. The font is not something I am particularly proud of, but it started me of in building what's now the JOEBOB graphics foundry. Inbetween creating other fonts, the dearJoe series has become a theme I revisit every once in a while, trying to create an update on how my handwriting has evolved, along with my abilities in creating fonts that mimic actual handwriting. In the last decade or so I started implementing ligatures and alternate characters, which helped a lot in coming to a result that can almost pass for actual handwriting. The 2019 dearJoe 7 font is the latest addition to this font family. All characters were scanned from handwritten notes, cherrypicking the characters and letter-combinations I liked best. They were written with a Lamy M66 B pen and only minor adjustments were made to the original scans, leaving most little flaws and rough edges as they were for a convincing ball-point on paper result. The font comes with over 150 ligatures, making sure the font has a variated and credible overall look and feel.

FF Info Display The sober and clear forms of the sans serif FF Info Display have been deliberately molded to make them perfect for use on wayfinding systems. The font by Ole Schäfer and Erik Spiekermann not only takes the problem of lack of space into account - it is some 15% narrower than comparable typefaces - the characters have also been designed to ensure they remain legible even in adverse conditions for reading. As text on signs often contains words with which readers are unfamiliar and which are thus deciphered letter for letter rather than perceived as whole words, it is essential to provide for a clear differentiation between glyphs. The Brazzari Pro AOE is an unusual but fun geometric typestyle design. It is the historical revival and elaboration of the "Bizarre" typeface created by MacKellar, Smiths, & Jordan Co. in 1884. One of my guilty pleasures is in taking the time to recreate historical typefaces as digital fonts, and expand on their character sets to enable them to be used more widely than their limited originals. A lot of incredible historical typestyles created as wood or metal type with bare bones character sets have been lost or only exist as limited specimen proofs in old books. These typefaces may have more niché uses than modern typefaces, but I believe it is important nonetheless to preserve these typefaces for future generations. These typefaces, if nothing else, can often inspire new creations.
