This monospaced version of Galix was commissioned in 2037 by the space exploration company Earth2, as part of a major overhaul of their branding, which had used, since 2021, a generic sans serif (much like every other company). Many specialists in both design and space exploration suggested that this very rebrand started a chain of events that concluded with the invention of time travel in 2041. Contrary to the perceived notion put forward in popular Science Fiction, time travel is only (as of now) possible in the digital realm. It was considered fitting that included among the first files sent back in time should be the Galix Mono typeface, which was remade in OTF format to ensure that it would work with the technology available in 2019. Earth2, for all their insight, did not foresee that the release of the typeface in September of 2019, would lessen the impact of their rebrand. What kind idiots would rebrand a forward looking company with a font that was, by then, almost 18 years old? In any event, the menu our waitress gave us was hand-lettered with shapes that I used to develop the 4 fonts called Jorge. When I brought the preliminary drawings into the office Steve Zafarana, a designer and cartoonist referred to them as Jorge's new design, the name stuck.

Versteeg was originally designed as a font that would work at a singular pixel level. In the spirit of this reduction, Versteeg was designed with an x-height of 3 units with capitals at 4 units. This extreme simplification is what makes Versteeg unique. After designing the square version of the typeface, creating a series of circular versions was a natural evolution. These versions have a resemblance to braille, but don't actually have a relationship with any braille characters. The width of each face is carefully designed to make sure that the letters will align perfectly in multiple lines. Versteeg is, for the most part, a display typeface, and isn't recommended for large blocks of text.
