Adolf Rusch von Ingweiler, was in the 19 th century known mysteriously as the “R'' printer. He was the first printer North of the Alps to introduce the new Roman style of type known now as Antiqua. He was active in the city of Strasbourg from around the early 1460's to 1489. One wonders if the unusual form of “R'' was a personal conceit. This font is, therefore, an Antiqua style font and has over a 1000 defined glyphs with wide support for medieval characters that have since fallen out of use. The baseline was slightly tidied up in order to give the printed text an even cleaner look than the original. The letters are very close approximations of the original type catalogued by the “Veröffentlichungen der Gesellschaft für Typenkunde des 15. Jahrhunderts” as Typ.1:103R GfT1197.

It is beholden to Morris Fuller Benton's original Souvenir, and its revival by Ed Benguiat. My own Stone Informal was also an influence.

Sunwind is not really made to write long copy. It is a font for shopsigns and short sentences that need that hot, sunny and windy touch. And that is how I got around to designing it: I saw some letters on a shopsign in Cannes when driving into town. I shouted at my son Julius: "Quick take a picture of that sign, the blue one." That's what he did, only he used the macro setting, so I had a very small sign but lots of nice background. Anyway I got the basic idea! Then I made a lot of sketches and this is what came out. I added a smallcaps set and I also made some initials as a rough version, so they look like written with a brush on heavygrain paper. Swinging that brush is yours truly Gert Wiescher

This ornamental font is the interpretation of ornaments of Trypillya culture. Trypillya culture, or Cucuteni-Trypillya is an archaeological culture of neolithic times. Its name derives from the name of the village of Trypillya nearby Kyiv. This culture experienced its culmination between 5500 and 2750 BC. The Trypillians lived in the territories between the Carpathian Mountains and the Dniper River of the modern Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. Many interesting ceramics decorated with original geometric ornaments survived to amaze us. Its heritage is still a little unknown to the public and therefore the patterns that are reproduced in this font have no analogues in the digital format.

There are a few alternate lowercase letters, such as the ‘i’ and the ‘j’ dotted with a cute little heart and many, many ligatures. Lepontic is an ancient Alpine Celtic language that was spoken in parts of Rhaetia and Cisalpine Gaul (now Northern Italy) between 550 and 100 BC. Lepontic is attested in inscriptions found in an area centered on Lugano, Switzerland, and including the Lake Como and Lake Maggiore areas of Italy. While some recent scholarship (e.g. Eska 1998) has tended to consider Lepontic simply as an early outlying form of Gaulish and closely akin to other, later attestations of Gaulish in Italy (Cisalpine Gaulish), some scholars (notably Lejeune 1971) continue to view it as a distinct Continental Celtic language. In this latter view, the earlier inscriptions found within a 50 km radius of Lugano are considered Lepontic, while the later ones, to the immediate south of this area, are considered Cisalpine Gaulish. Lepontic was assimilated first by Gaulish, with the settlement of Gallic tribes north of the River Po, and then by Latin, after the Roman Republic gained control over Gallia Cisalpina during the late 2nd and 1st century BC

Habana Deco ML was inspired by a hand-lettered sign on the stucco exterior of a small pharmacy in modern-day city of Havana, Cuba. It, in turn, was based on the fat-faced Art Deco lettering of the late 20s and early 30s, especially the Futurismo posters out of Italy, as well as alphabets designed in The Netherlands, France, USA and even the Soviet Union. There are 24 stylistic alternate glyphs (SALT), many inspired by a variety of these sources, including a couple from the sign in the front of the Congress Hotel in South Beach, Miami. It is documented by around 280 texts dated from the 5th up until the 1st century BC, which were found through northern Italy, southern Germany, eastern Switzerland, Slovenia and western Austria, in two variants of the Old Italic scripts.
