Are you ready for the 1MB processing powerful performance? Step into the future with my wanna-be retro 8-bit powerful performance digital grafitti inspired computer font from the future...or rather...the past! I was inspired by old posters and commercials for old 8-bit computers from the late 70-ies and 80-ies. Despite the lack of powers (compared to computers and phones today) they seemed to be able to both rule the world and ease your everyday jobs. Well, the thought of all that, combined with my love for grafitti and comic text, inspired me to do this font!

My friends didn't use capitals when sending me text messages, e-mails and using all their digital toys. At the beginning, I was feeling ignored. But after time I thought, that... I can do something for them. And so, I've made Redaktor. Redaktor is a cute monospaced family of four fonts, which has only lowercase characters and large x-height. If you want to write an uppercase character, you can't do it. (OK, to be fair, there will be small underline, just to show you, what you have done...) You may find Redaktor useful for posters, titling, info-graphics or websites.

Initially, I participated in the contest to design the logo for Bill Lloyd. In the end, the design was rejected, but letters remained. I then decided to continue with the idea and complete the entire typeface. After a couple of months, I realized that the typeface was imperfect, and now that I’m working on an updated Lloyd type, this one is free. The main characteristic of the typeface is its bold and curvy shapes. It is also tall and original in design. It was a great experience because it taught me how failure inspires people to move on, and create something better.

I designed Mirage using ink and a calligraphy brush to evoke the writing styles of ancient and exotic civilizations. After completing the project, it was filed and forgotten. About 15 years later, I was sifting through some of my old art files and found a "photostat" of the entire character set... a truly a magnificent archeological discovery. Then I thought, hey, maybe it's day has come. Why not share it with the world?... a completely digitized version for the new millennium. This unique font is a versatile, calligraphic option for travel, history, and greeting card themes. What other uses can you imagine?

My goal for Harfang was to create a serif typeface that would be easy to read at text sizes, while having a strong personality at larger sizes. The initial design had a purely rounded style, but with each development pass I introduced some angularity. The final result is a typeface that is easy to read in long texts, advertising copy, annual reports and the like; but one that also provides a crisp and stylish appeal in more prominent display settings. I choose the name Harfang (Harfang des neiges — Snowy Owl or Great White Owl) because after my first typeface, Migration, I wanted something with a thematic relation. On a more personal level, Harfang is the official bird of Québec, a province with a long winter and a wonderful, white landscape, and the place I call home. —André Simard

Sabana is my first step in font design. A font that is born from the organic, from a creative process that starts from improvisation as a result of my training as an artist. To design Sabana I asked myself the question, why not make a font that emulates my own writing? as I found it fun to see my handwriting on a computer. This font can be used in a wide range of projects such as editorial design, motion graphics, web, advertising and branding where emulating handwriting is a necessity. The font has coverage for more than 200 languages ??derived of the latin alphabet in addition to Cyrillic. Sabana is where I come from, where I am from, a constant on the horizon that is occasionally interrupted by vertical lines and that together make a perfect visual symphony.

A Trollkatt in Norwegian myth, is the cat associated with witches. The last few days a stray ginger cat seems to have adopted us - she comes into the house, lies down on the carpet and loves the cat food we bought her. We have posted some ‘found a cat’ messages online and hung op some flyers - just in case someone is missing a cat. Because of the stray, I decided that I should name this font something cattish, so Trollkatt is what popped up. The font is quite nice; I made it with my Chinese ink and a brush, from which I cut most of the hairs. This font won’t catch mice, but it will put some magic into your designs! And the stray cat… well, if she isn’t chipped and no one comes to fetch her, we will keep her. #happyending

I started Rainmaker Script by hand sketching a huge amount of letters to find the right tone. After having enough I picked the characters that I liked and begun composing a font out of them. With this method I ended up with the Rainmaker Script - an elegant signature style connected script with natural variation in the rhythm. Rainmaker Script is great for branding, headlines and packaging. It’s equipped with (automatic) Contextual Alternates that keep the flow natural and variable. There’s also Swash, Stylistic and Titling Alternates, and even more alternates can be found for some characters from the Glyph Palette. From the Glyph Palette you’ll also find a handful of ending swooshes and ornamental strokes that can be combined with the font. All the extras in Rainmaker Script are PUA encoded so you can access them in most graphic design software.

Cherubina means ‘Blessed’. It is a name derived from the Akkadian “karabu / kuribu”, meaning “blessing, blessed”. A cherub is a type of spiritual being mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, often depicted as a baby with wings. This font was based on the hand lettering I found on a 1962 Japanese poster for the movie “Mother Joanna Of The Angels”. The poster was designed by Hiroyoshi Oshima. Cherubina font is an all caps font (upper and lower case differ and can be used together) with a medieval feel to it. I tried to keep the ‘spirit’ of Hiroyoshi Oshima’s lettering, but changed the glyphs and designed most of them myself, as I had nothing but the title of the poster to work with. I have added some ligatures as well. Comes with my blessing and an eternity of diacritics.

Feel Script is based on lettering that calligrapher and logo designer Rand Holub created for Intertype for his face Monterey. Fortunately, I didn’t have the technological limitations today that Intertype had back then. Holub’s lettering is presented in its entirety within Feel Script. Some letterforms were redrawn from vintage American magazine ads (some by Holub himself), along with many new alternates, ligatures, ending forms, and strangely beautiful character combinations. The experience I’ve accumulated from my previous calligraphy typefaces (Ministry Script, Affair, Buffet Script, Burgues Script, et al.) made it easier for me to apply Holub’s lettering in a new context using OpenType technology. The usual extended treatment was given to Feel Script, all the way into the implementation of three-letter ligatures and the dreamiest swashes I could imagine. I changed some of the connections between the lowercase letters in order to fit Holub’s calligraphy as opposed to the limited Intertype metal attempt. I hope you like Feel Script. I also hope what I contributed to this particular Holub design is somewhat of a happy ending to a calligraphy story that crosses many technologies. From the pen to computer Bézier. A more “pure” relative of hers. When I designed Erotica, I was so in love with the spencerian style that I knew it'd be hard to just abandon it. With that in mind, this time my aim was to take the subtlety of it to the limit. So, in order to do that I had to find out what was actually the secret of its beauty. I found that the essence of Erotica, in other words, its ductus was the most responsible. The result is a font made of hairlines with a lot of emphasis on the pureness of the form and, (with a lot of inspiration in music) the sensation of continuity between its letters as if they were written with a string.
