The inspiration of the name of the font comes from a song by Smashing Pumpkins, but the real reason why I named the font "Krooked Teeth" is that the font has got a crooked look to it, almost like crooked teeth! Furthermore I like the handwritten look. It works great in small sizes, but also loveable at large sizes! I replaced the 'C' with a 'K' in order to make it look more Danish. Just like my name: Jakob with a "'k" !

Whenever I create a font using a Chinese brush and ink, it almost always comes out scary-looking. Sensory Overload is not like that: it is quite a neat and tidy font, even if it is a little rough around the edges. Sensory Overload is an all caps typeface and would be ideally suited for book covers, headlines, packaging and posters. Comes with an overload of diacritics.

I believe it was Picasso who had a Blue Period between 1901 and 1904. It seems that I have one myself - really not comparing myself to Picasso btw… Recently I created Blue Sheep font and now this one: Little Boy Blue. Little Boy Blue is a very legible, easy-on-the-eye font for texts, books, covers and packaging. Comes with 50 shades of diacritics.

There are many fonts inspired by Lucian Bernhard. I have always admired his 1906 award-winning poster: ‘Priester’— believed to be the birth of the ‘Sachplakat’ (or Object Poster). I have interpreted the hand lettered “Priester” logo into a formal typeface and only hope I have done it justice. Usage recommendations: Captions, fliers, packaging, cards, posters, ads, book jackets, manuals, bulletins, magazines, greetings, announcements.

Minou is a French cat’s name. There are more: you could name your cat Léo, Fripouille, Orion, Orphée or Tigrou, but I kind of like Minou. Minou font is a very cute, handmade affair, that started from some doodles I had drawn. Use it for children’s book covers, pyjama party posters, toy packaging and inspirational quotes. I am sure it’ll do the job purrfectly!

I drew this font on the computer, and added a few effects for the finishing touches. I named it "Bush!!" just because that is kind of what it looks like.

By chance I stumbled upon an unfinished font in my fonts folder (while looking for something else). It had a stupid working name, but when I opened it, the font looked really nice! I have no idea why I never finished it. I renamed it Ukiyo Mind, because the font looked a bit like Japanese brush strokes. Ukiyo is a Japanese term which roughly translates as ‘the fleeting/transient world’. In mediaval Japan, the word was associated with Buddhism, but later it was used to describe the urban lifestyle and the pleasure seeking aspects of it. Nowadays it refers to a ‘living in the moment’ state of mind. Ukiyo Mind is a really nice brush font, which I probably made using Chinese ink and a brush. It comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case glyphs.

Say hello to Boyish & Weird! (I actually don't know what boyish is, but I do like how that word looks with these letters.) I had a lot of fun making this weird little font. It has oval cutouts, heavy lines, and plenty of whimsical details.

Now here's a font that is named Like Butterflies, but has got nothing to do with butterflies! What? Why? Well, I recently heard the song "Even flow" by Pearl Jam and took a trip down memory lane - back to my early twenties. I remember how the lyrics affected me, and had an impact on how my life changed the years to follow. Maybe the style of the font does not reflect the inner meaning of the song, but it does reflect a look back in time for me - and the change that took place. Catskin is a fairytale by The Brothers Grimm. The story is about a king who has a beautiful wife and daughter - you know, the basic fairytale stuff. Long story short: they all live happily ever after (except for the wife, who dies…). Catskin is also a nice, handmade font. I like making fairytale fonts, especially since I have three kids, who love books. And when I see one of my fonts on the cover, I can tell them: ‘daddy made this’. #prouddaddy ;-)

After my son was born, I found myself reading him a lot of books. A LOT of books. Some were good, some were great, but I found myself wanting to develop something using my skills and interests to make something that only I could make. In short, I realized my son needed to be indoctrinated—I mean, introduced into the wonderfully wild world of fonts. So, I set about to make a board book to teach about typography, called “The Clothes Letters Wear.” You can learn more about the book here. I’ve made the captivating illustrations bright and colorful, and the use of different letter forms makes for a fascinating read to delight ages young and young at heart. And, as an added bonus, this children’s book has a custom designed font. I’m always looking for an excuse to design a new font, and this book created the perfect alibi. Drum roll, please. I now give you … Cabrito (“little goat” en Español). This new serif typeface incorporates the latest research on typographic legibility for children, features to make it—well, extra legible. A little background: studies show that Bookman Old Style is one of the most readable typefaces, and as a consequence or perhaps the reason why, it is used thoroughly for children’s books. This font became my initial inspiration for the typeface. Then, I found more legibility research saying that (brace yourselves) Comic Sans is also very legible for beginning readers, much due to the large x-height and softer, easily recognizable forms. In addition, forms that are closer to handwriting also seem to be more legible. Once I threw all that into my cauldron and stewed it a bit, the result was a pleasantly rounded typeface that includes not-so-strictly geometric, handwriting-inspired forms for the b, d, p, and q. Es guapo! Cabrito’s slender weights are simple and fun, with extras that turn any “bah humbug” into a smile. Add lighter touches to your project with the typeface’s included sparkles or rainbows (not included). Splash a little more color on the page with the firmer look of the thicker weights. Diaconia Old Style is a new rendition of my workhorse body copy font that I originally designed to use for the body copy of "Printing in a Digital World." I became increasingly upset with the lack of lowercase numbers and true small caps. Diaconia started life as a modification of one of the Dutch Bible fonts I traced. It has changed a lot since then (although I have a hard time telling how much because I have lost the original). The plain and italic work especially well when used in very large sizes as display faces. The other four variants (small caps, heavy, heavy italic, and black) are designed for use in book production. Because I format all my own books, I was able to design fonts that met my needs exactly: lowercase numbers, SMALL CAPS font, Mac Command, Option, and Control symbols, ballot box in the section slot, and several other special characters. DiaconiaPro is the OpenType family of my body copy workhorse. This is the first font family I ever created: classic, elegant, easy to read. 583 characters: small caps, oldstyle figures, numerators, denominators, lining figures, accents and a lot more.

Ramp Age was originally made with a brush, but I wanted a more rough look to it. I manually traced the brush-strokes with short, straight lines, making the font more characteristic in its look. Can be used for grafitti things, but fits in the horror-genre as well!
