XPawnShop is a typographical chess font; the pieces are letters. The Pawn is an awkward letter P, the knight is a horse in the shape of an h, the bishop is a decorative letter B, the rook is an elephant with an R shape, the queen is a Q, and the king is an ornate K. Two other XPawnShop fonts are made of very simple pieces, but as a bonus, both have the set of dominoes from the unicode block 1F030 to 1F093. The key layout is a bit complicated; see the key guide for detailed information on how to position pieces correctly.

HWT Aetna is a revival of the sturdy Roman style of wood type most often called simply Aetna. This new digital version by Aaron Bell features four widths all based on the various widths commonly offered by 19th Century wood type manufacturers. In addition, there is a four-layer all-caps version Aetna based on the the famous Wm. Page Chromatic Types, that allows the user the ability to easily create these chromatic streamer and shadow effects. Both the multiple width Aetnas and Streamer component fonts support full Western and Eastern European languages.

The Tang family came to be, when I started studying fonts made for use in very small point sizes, like Bell Gothic. I studied the use of ink traps and went to town with them. Instead of just using them for their purpose: trapping ink to prevent the type getting blotted; I used them as a design feature. With those features Tang works very well in both headline and text use. I use it as a house type, and I've already seen it in a beer and cider labels.

Amorie is a tall and skinny hand drawn font. It comes in various weight and styles, and with an array of opentype options. Built to appear completely hand crafted, different designers could produce completely different results, selecting either Modella (classic and chic), Nova (fun and fancy) or SC (Small Caps and all business.) Beverly Hills is an all-caps display face in the Art Deco style. Its design features dramatically low crossbars, and each letter has a fine inline highlight. The most prominent letters in this typeface are clearly the E, F, G, and K, while the elegantly narrow S is sure to delight. A classy offering like Beverly Hills should only be set very large, either as a magazine headline, a store sign, or on the cover of a fine invitation. Mekon is a modern heavyweight typeface digitised and expanded from Peter Steiners Black Body (1973). Monocto is an upright italic, clearly evidenced by the lowercase letters a, e, f, g, i, k, l, v, w, x, y and several capitals. On one hand, the design is inspired by an historical German running hand written with a pen angle of 45°, and on the other, by rational, utilitarian monospace types, similar to those designed for the mechanical typewriter during the Industrial Revolution. As the writing tool touches the paper, a double-square with broken corners is produced, which then, according to ductus, transforms itself into letter components that are either 90°-verticals or 45°-diagonals. The systematic geometry of Monocto offers unexpected design possibilites.

Royal, majestic, elegant. These letters are based on Roman and Greek characters carved on stone. They come in 3 different styles. Normal and Shaded are designed to have serifs with a finer thinning. On the other hand, Metallic is bolder and simulates in the most realistic way three-dimensional metallic lettering. There are some alternate characters placed at lowercase positions as well as a few stylistic alternates which are accessed through the OpenType features. Pay attention to letters like Greek Omega (lowercase position) and Greek Xi (lowercase position) as well as B, R, K (lowercase position). The font SweynheymPannartz is strongly modeled after an example Conrad Sweynheym and Arnold Pannartz used in their early printing venture in Subiaco, Italy which began around 1465. Their efforts were supported by Pope Sixtus the IV after they enthusiastically printed more books than they could sell. They not only brought printing to Italy, but also developed the first Roman style type. This font has over 600 defined glyphs to cope with modern needs, and also the ability to use several abbreviations common to that period. It also has an alternate minuscule “k” more modern in appearance for those that find the original too unusual.

After designing two script fonts (lp Pinselschrift, lp Bambus), Peter Langpeter has now drawn an elegant Antiqua font, namely lp Saturnia, derived and conceived from his work in developing headlines and logos. The aim was to create a modern interpretation of the classical Roman letters (Capitalis Monumentalis or Trajan by Carol Twombly), avoiding the archaic look of these letter forms. Also, the difficulty of spacing characters with excessive forms, such as the long tails of 'K' and 'R', are avoided. Additionally, lp Saturnia also comes with lower case characters. The result is a contemporary and elegant typeface that is more suitable for practical use, without renouncing the classical Roman character.

Due to its popularity an italic style was added in Feb 2023. From the designer: I wanted to make a retro font with that 70's good vibes feel but i didn't want to just copy letters from that era. Vintage Price Tags JNL comprises three sets of numbers in both ribbon, circle and star patterns which, when combined will produce point-of-sale price elements. The designs were re-drawn from examples found in an old wood type catalog, and are now collected in digital format. Ribbon-style numbers are found on the upper case keys. A through J have the large numbers, K through T are the smaller, underlined numbers. The remaining upper case keys contain the dollar sign, cents sign and the phrases "each", "for", "dozen" and "pair". On the lower case, the circle set of combination numbers are on the following keystrokes: The keys a through j are the left side semi-circle numbers and the "k" key is a blank left side semi-circle. The l through u keys are the right side semicircle numbers and the "v" keystroke is a blank right side semi-circle. The star set is on the standard numbers keys for the left side of the star, with the right side characters on the corresponding shift keystrokes for the number keys. In following the original design examples, a cents sign follows the numbers on the right side of the circle or star sets. The lower case w through z contain a left side star blank, a left side star with $1, a right side star blank and a right side star with small double zeros (to comprise a star shaped price tag for $1.00).

Acklebury is a chunky, reverse contrast, slab-serif typeface available in two styles. It has heaps of personality, plenty of open type features, and a whole host of special characters and dingbats. Although it's drawn from historical sources, Acklebury is not a straight revival, rather more of an homage to the many, varied, extended lining figures of the late 1800's. Acklebury celebrates the once labelled 'hideous' combination of wide rounded forms and hard slab serifs. Only using modern type technology to fix the spacing and kerning issues that would of been impossible with metal or wooden type. Acklebury is not a French Clarendon, neither is it really an Italienne... but it is phat, wide and hella funky.

This handy font allows designers of commercial products to add basic circled letters that are uniform in appearance. For example, on music CDs, the Copyright and Publish (AKA Phonogram) symbols often do not match. Clearface Gothic first appeared in 1910, designed by Morris Fuller Benton, the world-famously prolific typeface artist. In addition to Clearface Gothic, Benton also designed classics like Franklin Gothic, Century Expanded, and many other types. Clearface Gothic is a sans serif face with light forms displaying the Zeitgeist of the turn of the 20th century. Distinguishing characteristics are the open forms of the a" and "c," the arched "k," and the upward-tilting horizontal stroke of the "e." Curwen Sans is a monoline sans-serif dating from the early twentieth century. Though contemporary with Johnston’s Underground and Gill Sans, and emerging from the same artistic milieu, Curwen Sans was created solely for in-house use at the Curwen Press in London so never achieved a wide audience or recognition. The original face was cut only in a Medium weight, but the new digital family consists of four weights, each with an optically corrected Oblique, and all containing a full complement of Latin Extended-A characters. And they of course contain all the usual "western" glyphs supporting: Albanian, Basque, Breton, Chamorro, Danish, Estonian, Faroese, Finnish, French, Frisian, Galican, German, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish (Gaelic), Italian, Northern Sotho, Norwegian, Occitan, Portuguese, Rhaeto-Romance, Sami (Lule), Sami (South), Scots (Gaelic), Spanish, Swedish, Tswana, Walloon and Yapese.

I came across an old book called ‘Studio Handbook Letter And Design For Artists And Advertisers’ by Samuel Welo. Samuel Welo was an American advertising calligrapher, typographer and lettering artist, who was most active during the roaring twenties. Lenox Avenue is my version of a set of letters in that book. It was handmade (just like Welo had done). I only had an ABC/abc to work with, so I designed all the remaining glyphs myself. I changed some of the original (and quite quirky) letters to a more contemporary form. The font is named Lenox Avenue, once home of the famous Savoy Ballroom. Comes with all the bells & whistles.

Ecliptica is an extended family of five very condensed typefaces in a single bold weight. The creation of Australian designer Robert Bell. Ecliptica has a Sans, a Semi-Serif, a Serif and a single Cursive that can be used with any of the other three styles. As an added bonus, Robert also designed a modern Blackletter companion. The Ecliptica family is an unusual layout of styles and all work equally well with one another. The OpenType versions of the Ecliptica fonts support an extended Latin character set that includes a full array of fractions as well as additional ligatures. The Sans and Cursive fonts contain some cap and lowercase alternates.

This 1538 Schwabacher was based on a font used by Georg Rhau in Wittemberg (Germany) to print Des Babsts Hercules [...], a German pamphlet against roman catholicism written by Johannes Kymeus. The original font has a relatively complete set of characters including “long s”, but also the special german types like k, fl or ‰, ˆ, ¸.... A few omissions were remedied, and accented letters were added. A render sheet, enclosed with font files, help to identify them on keyboard. It can be used as web-site titles, posters and fliers, editing ancient texts, menus or greeting cards as a very decorative font... Although this font remains clear and easy to read from 8 or 9 points on screen, it is clearly designed for print works.
