Conga Brava is the work of type designer Michael Harvey, a combination of the high-minded, purist letterforms of revivalist, modern calligraphers with the mundane, even crude, lettering of warehouse stenciling. The resulting lyrical yet utilitarian forms have a visually exciting graphic effect, which Harvey has frequently used in his book jacket designs. Like his other typefaces, Ellington, Strayhorn, and Mezz, Harvey named his design after a jazz classic, Conga Brava", by Duke Ellington and his trombonist Juan Tizol. The rolling rhythm, polished swing, and stacatto brass treatment of the tune suits the look of this sassy roman design and even more so, its stencil mate. Opinion varies regarding the role of Claude Garamond (ca. 1480–1561) in the development of the Old Face font Garamond. What is accepted is the influence this font had on other typeface developments from the time of its creation to the present. Garamond, or Garamont, is related to the alphabet of Claude Garamond (1480–1561) as well as to the work of Jean Jannon (1580–1635 or 1658), much of which was attributed to Garamond. In comparison to the earlier Italian font forms, Garamond has finer serif and a generally more elegant image. The Garamond of Jean Jannon was introduced at the Paris World’s Fair in 1900 as Original Garamond, whereafter many font foundries began to cast similar types. The famous Stempel Garamond interpretation of the 1920s remains true to the original Garamond font with its typical Old Face characteristics. The bold italic was a modern addition at the end of the 1920s and the small caps provided an alternative to the standard capital letters. In the mid 1980s, a light version was added to Stempel Garamond. Since its appearance, Stempel Garamond has been one of the most frequently used text fonts.

The orthography was invented in 1952 by a Sufi Sheikh, named Hussein Sheikh Ahmed Kaddare. A phonetically robust writing system, the technical commissions that appraised the Kaddare alphabet concurred that it was the most accurate indigenous script and orthography for transcribing the Somali language. Kaddare uses both upper and lower case letters, with the lower case represented in cursive.

Otto Weisert was a German type founder who ran his own foundry in Stuttgart during the early years of the 20th Century. In 1902, he created Kalligraphia, a cursive Art Nouveau display script face. Kalligraphia has a unique stroke contrast model; the tops and bottoms of its letterforms are thicker than the verticals on its sides.

Lydian is an unusual sans serif face with strongly calligraphic letter shapes, originally cut by American Type Founders. The eye-catching nature of the Lydian font family has made it popular for use in magazines and advertising as well as in newspapers for headlines and introductions. The cursive has an even more marked pen-drawn structure.

Somewhat of a mongrel, this font combines uppercase letters from an oriental font designed by Paul Carlyle and Guy Oring in 1938, and lowercase letters based on yet another variant of Joan Truchut-Blanchard’s Super Veloz system. As its name implies, it’s quite suitable for titles of all kinds. The Opentype version of this font supports Unicode 1250 (Central European) languages, as well as Unicode 1252 (Latin) languages.
