“My Dearest Friend” is how she began nearly all her letters to her husband, John. I refer, of course, to Abigail Smith Adams, first Second Lady and second First Lady of the United States. Her famous correspondence with John Adams produced nearly 1,200 letters over a span of some 40 years, leaving us with a priceless record of early American life — from household routines to war and politics to expressions of personal worry and devotion. Although Abigail’s was not the loveliest hand, I found it sure and expressive, as befitting her extraordinary sway and intelligence; it also carries a genuine flavor of the period. In making the font I focused chiefly on her handwriting from the 1780s and ’90s, when she’d taken to using a disconnected cursive, which struck me as distinctive and alluring. The OpenType release of Abigail Adams has scores of ligatures, standard and contextual alternates, lining and old-style figures, cross-outs, ink blots, and full Latin language support.

This font, as indicated by its namesake, was designed and started by the late Bob Alonso. It represents the first of his unfinished work to be completed by friend and colleague John Bomparte, following Bob's passing in December of 2007. It is a font that speaks with a distinctively robust voice; and would be a great choice for a wide variety of uses. Central European languages are supported through OpenType, and Windows/Mac OSX TrueType versions.

The result is that the striking and powerful FF Kievit Slab easily complements the other members of the FF Kievit super family, that also includes FF Kievit and FF Kievit Serif, and stands on its own in as a multi-talented design. Though created from the sans, FF Kievit Slab is not FF Kievit with slabs serifs tacked on. The family is the fruit of a four-year collaboration between Abbink and Van der Laan, to make the perfect companion to the FF Kievit family. Each glyph was painstakingly adjusted and to achieve proper density, contrast, and balance, while remaining a perfect companion to its sans serif and oldstyle cousins. Its nine weights and italics also harmonize perfectly with the original FF Kievit design. Each of the FF Kievit styles is a typographical all-rounder that is equally at home in headlines as it is in text copy. The old font Modesto Open has been improved, renamed Modesto Open Primary and joined by four new fonts that ornament and augment the Primary font in many different ways. All Caps. Modesto is a loose-knit group of Font Families based on a signpainting lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. Woodstock is a round, heavy, lovable serif display typeface. Just as music brought many together in the spirit of love during the 1960s and the Woodstock music festival, this face brings a smile to the eye of the beholder. Many traces of the hand can be seen in the curves and the joins of Woodstock's forms. Try using Woodstock in headlines, logos, or greeting cards, in point sizes from 12 on upward.

Freehouse is a reinterpretation of the well-remembered Watney’s logo, a brewery and pub chain infamous for its poor quality beer and brutalist decor. In Design Research Unit’s corporate guidelines from 1966 the font is described as Clarendon Bold Expanded — however, this is not the case. Clarendon has square serifs, whereas the Watney’s font is rounder and friendlier. A fixture of the British high street landscape for decades, this digitisation adds a full international character set, numbers, punctuation and many other characters that did not exist in the original. A distressed version that evokes rough print on a wet beermat has also been developed.

Lunema is a highly stylized contemporary neo-grotesque sans serif typeface with strong geometric contrasts. The font to be highly legible in smaller point sizes due to the distinct deep ink traps. All 10 weights have an extended Latin glyph set with alternatives and ligatures.

An inky script font written by a madman from the cabin deep in the forest. Moonshine Script has a regular set of uppercase and lowercase script letters but also condensed capital letters that you can access by switching SmallCaps on and writing with CAPS.

This font is an addition to the Italican Oblique family, where the lower case characters have been redeveloped to give an impression of script. While some characters join together, there was no intention to create this style throughout the whole font.

A 1766 specimen by Isaac Moore, former manager of Joseph Fry’s foundry in Bristol, England, shows many types inspired by John Baskerville’s. But a century later, standardization had foisted inept lining figures and shortened descenders upon these designs. Matthew Carter remedies the tragedy with Big Moore, restoring oldstyle figures, full-length descenders, and historic swashes to this regal serif in two styles.

Iowan Old Style was designed for Bitstream in 1990 by noted sign painter John Downer. Iowan Old Style is a hardy contemporary text design modeled after earlier revivals of Jenson and Griffo typefaces but with a larger x-height, tighter letterfit, and reproportioned capitals. Cyrillic letters were designed by Natalia Vasilyeva in 2016. Iowan Old Style Cyrillic was released by Paratype in 2017.

JP2 has some special roots being inspired by the actual handwriting of Pope John Paul II. Franciszek Otto took this source material and transformed it into a high quality font. The result is a rough, but intelligent, design with letters that slightly bounce along the baseline to mimic typical writing. Jalebi font is quite like its namesake, the Indian deep-fried sweet. It is fat(tening), uneven, crunchy and addictive. Jalebi is an all caps font, but upper and lower case glyphs differ slightly and can be mixed. An ideal font for fat headlines, product packaging, signs and posters. Comes loaded with calories and diacritics!

The thought behind this font was not to join vertical, horizontal and diagonal stems. Each stem is designed separately and arranged in a good manner to create glyphs. Something different from tradition; liberal, but in the limit.

Happy Trails is a font that is based on the lettering (all upper case) used on most Trailways buses from 1936 through the very early 1960s. It also has a newly created set of lower case letters which never existed before. The font was tweaked and digitized by Bob Alonso & John Bomparte. Happy Trails has not only the flavor of the early Trailways buses but also a folksy, Western feel to it, and it’s even a bit silly or goofy, a fun font that has a variety of uses.
