I started making this font with a few days left at work before my 4 weeks vacation. I managed to finish the font on the day my vacation started - but with no stress. Now I can look forward to 4 good weeks at the summerhouse, and look back at the release of this laid back, handmade and somewhat quirky font. Personally I’d use it for anything that needs an organic handmade look - perhaps packaging, posters, flyers or maybe even clothes or toys for kids!

Acceptable JNL is a typeface modeled from hand lettering on a piece of 1940s sheet music, and has a distinctly casual, yet Art Deco flair. It's name can also be mischievous, for when you're asked "which font should I use for the job" you can answer "the Acceptable font". This may well start a dialogue reminiscent of Abbott and Costello's "Who's On First?"

Happy Trails is a font that is based on the lettering (all upper case) used on most Trailways buses from 1936 through the very early 1960s. It also has a newly created set of lower case letters which never existed before. The font was tweaked and digitized by Bob Alonso & John Bomparte. Happy Trails has not only the flavor of the early Trailways buses but also a folksy, Western feel to it, and it’s even a bit silly or goofy, a fun font that has a variety of uses.

Originally made in seven sizes, 6 to 48 point. Our font was digitized from the 24 point which we found in 1947 in a Sparks, Nevada, newspaper shop. Typical of the late nineteenth century types for job printers, where the rule was “never start a line with a font used in the line above”.

P22 Tuscan Expanded is a digitization of the mid-19th Century Woodtype font "Antique Tuscan Expanded - Wells & Webb 1854". Specimens of this font are rarely, if ever, seen with a lower case. It is noted in the book American Wood Type 1828-1900 by Rob Roy Kelly that the lower case is "missing". This version was digitized from a recently discovered full set including all lower case plus ff ligatures. One unique feature of this design is the heart shape formed in the V, X & Y.

Friar Pro is a revival of Frederic W. Goudy's "Friar" typeface. Goudy described this typeface design as a 'typographic solecism' as it combines a lowercase of half-uncial forms from the 4th through 7th centuries with an uppercase of square capitals from the 4th century. Steve Matteson developed the font as a tribute to Goudy and his joy of typographic exploration. Steve created a complete character set with OpenType typographic enhancements to give the font an authentic appearance to the original. Friar Pro is a beautiful design which imparts a scribal appearance to any document including greeting cards, certificates and official papers.

Roadie was inspired by a 1981 Hallmark card with lettering that was full of frolicking fun. Filled with a childish persona and a playful bounce, this Roadie has a lot to offer. As with some of my previous type designs, it is a typographic dance, wonderfully skipping across designs, surprising with each letter typed. With an extensive character set, and clean sharpie marker-like look, Roadie is a joy to typeset with, and it comes with a stylistic alternates feature that shuffles the Capitals and lowercase that share similar unicase forms that add to the quirky playfulness.

I am not really sure if goldfish in general are lucky. They tend to swim in circles in a bowl, but maybe, years from now, scientists discover that these goldfish count themselves lucky to be in a bowl, rather than in a stream in Asia. Personally, I think they’d be better off in a stream. Lucky Goldfish font is a cute and happy font, ideally suited for book covers, posters and toy packaging. Comes with a school of diacritics too.

Gothic Round was first introduced as wood type by the George Nesbitt Co. in 1838. The font is a softened variation of a standard heavy Gothic typeface. The style evokes a much more recent history of the 1960s and 70s and can be seen in such places as donut shops and on children's toys as well as inspiration for such fonts as VAG Rounded. Gothic Round has not previously been available as a digital font until now. The font was digitized by Miguel Sousa from a wide variety of historical sources, including visits to the Cary Collection at RIT (Rochester, NY), WNY Book Arts Center (Buffalo, NY) and the Hamilton Wood Type Museum (Two Rivers, WI). Excellent futuristic font with pretty rounded angles will fit any title or heading. It supports more than 20 European languages. This font is unique for it's elegant and thin letters. Font's idea came to the designer in the late autumn when tender yellow leaves fell to his hands. The combination of straight lines and bows had sparked a thought about the font, that could be used as awesome decoration.

Working on The Lab late one night, evil comic book genius Scott Christian Sava realized there was something missing from his graphic experiment! No, not slugs and snails or puppydogs' tails, nor sugar, spice, everything nice and formula 'X'....No, what his nefarious scheme was missing were the actual numbers and letters with which he could complete his equation! BRILLIANT! What he needed was something antiseptically clean and readable, even at small sizes for megalomanical rambling as well as the 5 point type under the Bio-Hazard logo that nobody really reads, and yet also bouncy and energetic enough for the inevitable sound effects that might follow exclamations such as: "IT'S ALIVE!" or "IT JUST-MIGHT-WORK!" Thanks to those awfully nice chaps at Comicraft, MadScientist is now available to evil geniuses everywhere, and guaranteed Laboratory tested.* *On reanimated human beings reconstituted from bones and organic body parts and organs from local charnal houses. Karlo is a super family of several branches, originating in the same lightweight skeleton. The lightweights are based on a pen of an even stroke-width. Inspired by the writings of calligrapher Edward Johnston, the family moves on in two directions in the heavier weights. Johnston demonstrated that the broad nib pen can produce different writing styles. Following this, one heavy weight has a humanistic low stroke contrast (KarloSerifBold and KarloSansBold), and another has a high stroke contrast of vertical axis with references to the 19th century jobbing typefaces (KarloOpen). The latter is inspired by Johnston’s demonstration of the broad nib pen, where he suggested fastening two pencils together. With each pencil representing an edge of the pen, it becomes more evident how the pen works in writing. The friendly informal look makes KarloSans and KarloSerif usable for both running text and for display sizes. KarloOpen, on the other hand, is solely designed for display purpose showing few words at a time. In Denmark, a guy named Karlo would typically be an old fellow with a slick hairstyle that makes an effort with his appearance. He is a handyman who can do a bit of this and that when needed. He is a happy go lucky kind of guy that takes one day at a time. To me, the typeface family has some of the same qualities. Check out Pyke which is a great pair for Karlo.

I've been working on a usable sans serif for body copy since the mid-1990s (though I certainly did not know it at the time). This one works well. It started life back in the mists of time as a scan of an old German font by Carl Fahrenwaldt. It was developed fully as a synergized serif with strong traditional roots and released as Bergsland Pro. Now it finally makes it to where I was headed all along as a sans text font. This is a well modulated humanist, sans serif font family with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accents characters, ordinal numbers, and so on. It is designed for text use in body copy. But it also works very well for elegantly stylized display.

Rigrok is a 14 style semi serif designed by Stew Deane. The design of the typeface was intended to create a premium feel that is suitable for the widest range of tasks, while still maintaining a unique sense of character. Stew designed Rigrok to draw on his graphic design experience to create a typeface that is suitable for many a design or branding job. The result is an easy to use, versatile typeface that charms with personality and character.
