Grace was designed by Elisabeth Megnet and appeared with Linotype in 1992. The font is a part of the package Calligraphy for Print, which also contains Ruling Script and Wiesbaden Swing. Calligraphy for Print 2 completes the set. These packages offer modern calligraphy fonts particularly well-suited to use in posters, magazines and advertisements. The basic style of Grace is based on the Gothic miniscule of the 13th century. It represents a modern philosophy held by Andre Guertler, Professor of Typography in Basel with whom Megnet once studied. With this philosophy, calligraphy is not to be seen as a decorative art, and fonts created according to this tenet have far fewer ornamental strokes. They are eccentric, drawn out and almost bulky. Like Gothic forms, one of the predecessors of this font, Grace gives vertical lines a particular emphasis. Microbrew is a versatile retro display family with 14 individual styles, plus retro banners, ornaments, and symbols. It’s a nice mix between wood type poster style, and vintage letterpress. The more detailed styles work well at large sizes, and the cleaner styles add legibility at smaller sizes. Microbrew is an all caps display font, but the lowercase act as alternates. Basic Commercial is a family of fonts based on historical designs from the hot metal type era. First appearing around 1900, these designs were created by type designers whose names have not been recorded, but whose skills cannot be overlooked. These typefaces were popular among groups and movements as diverse as the Bauhaus, Dadaism, and the masters of Swiss/International-Style typography. They influenced a variety of later grotesque fonts, such as Helvetica and Univers. Basic Commercial was distributed for many years in the United States under the name Standard Series. The typeface worked its way into many aspects of daily life and culture; for instance, it became the face chosen for use in the New York City subway system’s signage. Reviving a handwriting style from centuries past is similar to playing antique musical instruments; the pleasure of communing with live music arranged centuries ago by brilliant composers is heightened by the use of authentic or reconstructed artifacts. A new revived" script from the Baroque epoch is the Waza typeface, developed by Polish designer Franciszek Otto. Waza is inspired by a Wilhelm Hondius (Hondt) etching. Hondius was a Dutch court engraver for the Polish king, Ladislaus IV of the Vasa dynasty. The decorative character of the script engraved in the etching is a display of Hondius's calligraphic skill. The tangle of the flourishes in the capital letters, as well as the decorative lengthening of ascenders and descenders in the lowercase, contrast ideally with the rhythmic 30-degree slant of the design. Waza includes a set of alternative capital letters that have been deprived of ornaments; these allow the setting of proper Roman numerals, e.g., Ladislaus IV."

Dez Now Sans is a humanistic typeface family that was begun in 2005 by Chris Lozos of Dezcom. Dolce is the next step in Elena Albertoni’s ongoing exploration of handwritten letterforms that started with her typefaces Dyna and Scritta. It is an attempt to arrive at a more naturally flowing type of handwriting, striking a balance between the orderly and the informal, while taking a critical look at the possibilities and limits of OpenType. Dolce uses OpenType functionality to achieve a strong sense of spontaneity. . Because the uppercase letters of Dolce are lively calligraphic initials, they should be used only in combination with lowercase, and not in all-caps setting; to make it easier for the user, Dolce includes a special OpenType feature that automatically substitutes initials with small caps when words are completely set in capitals. Houschka Alt Pro is a carbon copy of the Houschka Pro family with one key difference: the rounded signature glyphs A & W on the default positions swap places with their straight alternates. Houschka was named after Georg Houschka, a sadly defunct confectioner’s shop in Salzburg, Austria, which had a wonderful 1930s frontage and distinctively rounded letterforms in the sign above the door. Woodford Bourne is a brand new 19th century grotesque typeface. The design is a tribute to the historic stone cast type in the building façades of the former Woodford, Bourne & Co. in Cork City, Ireland. For many years I had admired the type’s simplicity and strength, so I decided to faithfully reproduce those letters and expand them to a fully working font with 500 glyphs per case. A key feature of Woodford Bourne is the ability to change the feel of your typography with just one click. Switch from contemporary to vintage style by selecting “Stylistic Set 1” – this gives Woodford Bourne a unique versatility which I am sure you will enjoy playing with in your designs. It is a solid, reliable “workhorse” font family that reproduces well at all sizes… it’s also great for branding and identities. The name “Parchemin” is derived from the word in old English for “parchment.” Our modern word “parchment” changed its spelling to conform with French spelling practices during the French occupation of England. The font was created to suggest an informal but antique form of handwriting written on parchment with a quill pen. The scratchiness of the old quill pen is conveyed in the roughness of the characters. The font was loosely based on the font Queen. Use this font whenever you want to suggest rough informality or antique handwriting. The characters have been letter-spaced and kerned in such a way that they join perfectly with one another giving a completely convincing imitation of genuine handwriting. The font is fully professional in terms of its character set. It contains more than 235 characters — (upper and lower case characters, punctuation, numerals, symbols and accented characters are present). In fact, it has all the accented characters used in the major European languages.

I made the first sketches for Brocha when I first visited Easter Island in 2011. I took inspiration from pre-Columbian art for such sketches, but I must say that they were kind of rough and clumsy; it was an experimental and limited-use typeface. It took a long time, but thanks to my learning about type design gained over the years, I have finally been able to complete my project. I have made sure to preserve the Latin American spirit of my original designs in order to give my final typeface an expressively handmade, highly humanist look. Brocha is a display sans with friendly design ideal for high-impact headlines, logotypes or use on cookies packaging designs. Brocha consists of 2 subfamilies: one basic and one alternative. Each subfamily comes in 8 weights plus italics. The Alt version is highly recommended for those art directors who look for more varied fonts when designing.

Finally the time has come to publish our new ‘BlackHand’ font. It is a bold and upright handwritten font featuring 150 ligatures, which make for a credible handwritten look and feel. The ligatures will appear quasi random without the user having to search for the right alternate character in a list of glyphs. As you will notice, the font does well in both headers (it even has an ‘instant logo’ quality) and in plain text. The font finds it’s origin in handwritten notes which were done without paying attention to aesthetics. The regular characters and the ligatures were handpicked to form an organic and natural, very readable result. Although originally conceived as a magazine face – with strong serifs and open character shapes for good legibility in small sizes, and compact letter forms optimized for narrow columns and tight headlines – Marat evolved into a comprehensive family for general use. This specific construction and the round forms of the letters create an elegant, soft and friendly appearance. Multilingual, semi-connected​ display brush script, Nagamaki is perfect for logos, food packaging, menus, labels, apparel, advertising, cards, branding and more. Nagamaki comes with a set of lowercase swash alternates, ligatures and ending terminals. Inspired by my writing created with Pentel Touch Brush Pen and polished into clean forms, it’s stroke endings on letters like l or t reminded me of Japanese Katana swords. After researching the swords I named the font Nagamaki, which is a type of Katana sword with an extra long handle. It works well in smaller sizes and for more text but it shines in medium to large point sizes. You can access all the OpenType features through Adobe, Affinity and other similar software. With a couple of defining features like double story lowercase g and alternate lowercase r it makes a perfect choice for giving a little character to your designs while keeping everything nice and neat.

ITC Chino is a type family (Display & Text) designed by Hannes von Döhren and Livius Dietzel. ITC Chino Pro brings legibility and distinction to text copy. It is also a friendly design that will invite readers into content at large or small sizes. It is a melding of soft brush stokes and crisp edges. This is readily apparent in the bolder italic weights where the straight stems provide a counterpoint to the cursive terminals. The Typefamily is highly legible in a wide range of sizes. The text side of the family contains five weights of roman, each with an italic companion. Ranging from Light to Black, ITC Chino Pro provides a rich typographic palette. Genesis is a digitization and expansion of a Frank Riley metal typeface called Grayda, originally published to much applause by ATF in 1939. The concept for this disconnected script is quite novel and original among cursives and calligraphic fonts: The minuscules are mostly made with slightly clubbed strokes, which becomes clearly visible in the ascenders and descenders. This alone gives the face a bubbly appearance unlike any other. The formula is completed with two sets of beautiful calligraphic majuscules and a few alternates. The character set of Genesis boasts full support for Western, Central and Eastern European languages, as well as Baltic, Celtic/Welsh, Esperanto, Maltese, Turkish and Vietnamese. Preto is an extensive type family, which explores the function of serifs on readability and legibility. Preto consist of three subfamilies: Sans, Semi and Serif. Preto is designed for multilingual typesetting. All of the subfamilies have equal gray value but different texture which can be use to differentiate languages. Preto subfamilies have two text weights and two bold styles (Regular --> Bold, Medium --> Black). Every weight has a companion Italic style as well. Preto Sans The Sans version of Preto forms the basic skeleton of the family, it is decidedly simpler than the other styles (Semi and Serif). Although you can find many distinctive and unique elements in the details. The most visible elements are the tapered upper part of the letters. The capital letters have uniform widths achieving very different texture than traditional roman proportions. There are two different options for ligatures and alternative characters (J, Q, g, &) gives more variability for different languages.
