Named in tribute to the members of the American Typecasting Fellowship, this font is an original expression of Jim Rimmer's left-handed calligraphy. It was designed and cut in 24 p in the early 1980s, then cast as foundry type on Jim's own Thompson typecasting machine. This alphabet exhibits classic semi-italic text tension, with sqaurish minuscules and hybrid renaissance majuscules. The talented designer of the well-known Formata typeface, Bernd Möllenstädt was born on February 22, 1943 in Germany. He has lived in Westfalia, Berlin and Munich, Germany, and now permanently resides in Munich. From his earliest years he was interested in typography, first studying as a typesetter (1961-64) and then a student of graphic design (1964-1967). In 1967 Möllenstädt joined the Berthold typefoundry and his career as one of the leading type personalities began. One year after joining Berthold, he became the head of the type design department. For 22 years he worked as the head of that department, under the leadership of Günter Gerhard Lange. Upon Lange’s retirement in 1990, Möllenstädt ascended to the type directorship of Berthold where he was responsible for type design and font mastering. Möllenstädt designed two typeface for the Berthold Exklusiv Collection, Formata (1988) and Signata (1994). Under license from Berthold, Adobe marketed Formata as part of the Adobe Type Library. Formata is now one of the most successful sans serifs in the world, used both in American and European magazines, as well as newsletters in the Far East (Gulf New Kuwait). Formata also was chosen as the corporate typeface of Postbank, Allianz, VW Skoda, Infratest Burke, etc. In addition to his work for Berthold, Möllenstädt has lectured at local Munich schools on typography and graphic design, and designed corporate type identities and diverse logos for major corporations, including Allianz, Commerzbank, Mauser Officer and Hoepfner. Möllenstädt continues his association with Berthold as a designer. He most recently completed small caps and fractions for Formata. Jill Bell's typefaces are energetic, highly decorative, and refreshingly unpredictable. Some are friendly and childlike, while others are rough and nervous. Her latest creation is ITC Swank, a connected script whose shabby-chic" sophistication communicates a worn elegance. Bell begins the design process "with black stuff on white paper," she explains, preferring to draw letters before she digitizes them. Often the inspiration for her typefaces comes from a piece of hand-lettering. "Bruno began as a reminder to buy cat food," she says, "and ITC Swank started out as a small bit of lettering for Wurlitzer Pianos." Bell finds that working with blocks of lettering is a good start for script typefaces. "If I'm drawing a script typeface, I have to write out sentences in the letters first," she explains. "Drawing each letter separately doesn't establish the flow and spontaneity that scripts deserve." Bell's newest design is ITC Swank. It's a somewhat tattered formal script with definite links to early copperplate scripts. Though probably not for wedding invitations, Swank's elegant underpinnings are evident, with its slightly narrow proportions and a baseline that can best be called "bouncy." Graphic designers will appreciate the abundance of swash letters, making it easy to create distinctive headlines and short blocks of copy. Bell has a fondness for the "open, genuine" quality of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. "Eastern styles incorporate the natural flow of the hand," she says. "Natural, human qualities shine through. Mistakes are accepted, not scorned as in the 'white-out' Western culture." This philosophy is evident in Bell's own designs. Whether it's ITC Clover 's carefree spirit, the slightly spooky Hollyweird, Caribbean 's< rustic charm or the weathered elegance of ITC Swank, there is a natural honesty in her work."

Kake’s upper case letters are inspired by a hand-painted sign outside a temple in Ubud, Bali. The rest of the font is made to fit the style. The hand-made aesthetic is increased by the implementation of contextual alternates, which automatically swap glyphs to alternate forms to avoid the monotony of repeating letters. The amount of variations for each glyph is dependent on letter frequency in English; there are more a’s and e’s than q’s and j’s. Even with only two variations of some glyphs, the programming makes sure that no two matching glyphs are ever next to eachother, and for the most part they will rarely be even two letters apart. This all makes for type that looks like it isn't type. The glyphs bounce and subtly change weight with willful abandon. Some of the letters on that original sign are somewhat quirky. If you're not a fan you can engage stylistic alternates or stylistic sets to change the C, G, S, Y, c, s and y glyphs to a less idiosyncratic form. These variations still have variations themselves, so with contextual alternates on, they will look as random as all the rest. Case sensitive forms and automatic fractions are included, as are 98 ornaments, ranging from the useful to the (let’s just say) esoteric. These can be accessed from the glyph palette. I know you've probably never realized you need an anchor, a fuel pump, skull and crossbones and chess symbols in the same font before, but that doesn't mean you don't! Kake is full on display typography. It’s legible for small blocks of copy but don't go setting essays in it. Unless you really want to... in which case, go for it.

A modern Sans Serif — prosaic, designed geometrically, beautiful in large sizes All the dimensions of the font are based on Factor 10. The general principle of construction leads to slim forms and nearly equally wide characters. So the font appears very solid but is actually difficult to decipher in longer texts. Along with the ”normal“ Guhly Regular there are also the two versions Guhly Light and Guhly Bold, whereas in each only the vertical strokes [Guhly Light] or horizontal [Guhly Bold] have been changed in strength. The result is a very individual decorative effect which slightly reflects old circus and western scripts. The lower case characters in the version Guhly Book are, therefore, optimized to be suitable for longer texts in smaller font sizes — because after all, sometimes you should read a bit more than just the headline… The design of a shampoo bottle stands behind the creation of this sans serif display font. Prominent, clearly constructed forms with circular arcs define its appearance. This is a font primarily designed for use with capital letters — for all sorts of advertising purposes, headlines and titles. But lower case letters also belong to a good functional font; so, of course, Guhly includes them and ligatures for the more ”critical“ letter combinations as well as stylistic alternates for the letters K (or k), V (v) and o. As a decorative “encore”, the Guhly family also contains the “normal” weight in two variants: on the one hand the Guhly Cutout – these are letters without counter, as if the letters were cut out and the internal surfaces fell out; and on the other hand the Guhly stencil – as the name suggests, a stencil font with the typical bars that give a stencil the necessary cohesion.

Roughcast is a kind of outside plaster, composed of cement and pebbles. It’s not the best looking plaster and it is estimated that in the UK, a roughcast outer reduces the value of a house by 5%. I am in the middle of renovating our old farm, but I won’t cover it in roughcast! Roughcast font is actually quite an attractive brush font. I made it with a brush I found hiding underneath my stove (where it had been for a while). I cleaned it and used it to make a couple of fonts, including Roughcast. Roughcast is best used for packaging, book covers and posters.

We have been in lockdown for a long time now. The schools were also closed, meaning my kids had to stay at home. This week the schools reopened (not a day too soon!), which means my kids can play with their friends again and learn something too! My wife and I pack their lunchboxes every day and always add some fruit for snack time. That fruity snack inspired me to create this rather messy font! Fruity Snack is a handmade display font. It looks wobbly, comes with awkward angles and rough bits. It also comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese) and 2 sets of alternates for the lower case letters.

F2F Madame Butterfly is a font with a heavy, or dark, appearance. The darkness is brought about by the overlapping bits of glyph forms that make up each letter in the typeface.

This elegant typeface came out of a quick, back-of-the-napkin, sketch I did for a different typeface. After toiling on that typeface I looked back at the sketch and realized that I had lost some of the elegance and playful character of my original sketch. So, it was back to the drawing board and Lilette was born. Lilette is fun but also serious. Playful but elegant. Personal yet also industrial. That’s the power of a slab serif. Proudley Presents Morvem font family. Inspired by hi contrast bold retro typeface on early 70's-80's. Had experiment adding fluid shape to make it more modern and dynamic, the idea is make a balance blend of something old, something new. This font is powered with opentype features, such as; 100 ligatures, 2 characters will automatically changed into special characters. Easy to use right, no need magic skill. 105 alternates characters to use (uppercase & lowercase). A heavy weight - softened sans serif that is not only friendly, but easy on the eyes. Good Eatin was inspired by the title screen from the 1942 Warner Bros. cartoon titled, "Dog Tired". The original all capitals setting had a charming & quiet nature to it, which became even more pronounced when drawn out to include a lowercase set. Later expanded upon to include a Small Caps set, Good Eatin Pro achieves a wider, even more electric appeal. Loaded with personality, Good Eatin Pro is joyful and stands out without being an eyesore, and while being based on vintage lettering it has a contemporary feel.

To design Mr Black, we used old ('70-'80) dry transfer lettering sheets that were used by my grandfather who was a military cartographer. We had only two almost used-up sheets. The letters didn't transfer so well but we liked the way they were damaged. All of the characters have a very high resolution so they can be used in a large scale. Mr Black doesn't have lowercases but has up to three alternate uppercase for each letter. Checkout Mr Tiger if your looking for lowercase letters with the same distortion effect. One of my favorites. Rundgotisch is a easy to read for eyes that are accustomed to roman letterforms, yet keeps in touch with its blackletter roots. It was released around 1900 by Schelter & Giesecke of Leipzig, Germany. Can be used to set short text passages and pairs easily with many different decorative initials of the period. A very useful typeface. Don't leave home without it. According to Bringhurst, Schelter & Giesecke was formed in 1819 by Johann Gottfied Schelter and Christian Friedrich Giesecke. This old German printing house was sucked up by state-owned Typoart in 1946, after Marshall Zhukov and the Red Army had established Soviet dominion over East Germany.

The IronOn fonts are a collection of geometric display faces that were inspired by the iron-on t-shirt lettering of the 70s. The original source came from a submitted sample to the MyFonts "What the Font" forums, and while it had similarities to ITC Machine, it could not be tied to any existing typeface. And so, this new geometric sans family was born, exhibiting a more open letterstyle with several weights and widths, with a complete capital and lowercase set, no allcaps set here. Ideal for packaging, T-shirts, advertising, or for industrial applications like signage and newsletter headlines, this powerhouse font family offers a unique rigid flexibility.

The techno sound of the 1990s, a personal computer, font creation software, and some inspiration all came together to inspire the F2F (Face2Face) font series. Alessio Leonardi and his friends had the demand to create new unusual typefaces, which would be used in the leading German techno magazine of the day, Frontpage. Even typeset as small as 6-points, in nearly undecipherable layouts, it was a pleasure for the kids to read and try to decrypt the messages. Bubbly black letterforms dancing across the line: this is F2F Tagliatelle Sugo, a funky font from Alessio Leonardi. Try it out in a big headline today!

Font naming is not all that difficult. Take Printout for example. I was busy working on this font, when my niece came over with a poem she needed to have printed. One of her classmates had the same request (they’re writing poems for our national Remembrance Day). As I was printing out these poems, I thought the name Printout would be perfect for the font I was working on. See? It’s not rocket science! Printout is a totally awesome, completely handmade font. I used an almost dried out Japanese brush pen to get the eroded effect. Maybe I should name my next font ‘Dried Out Brush Pen’? I’ll let you know.

Found within the pages of the 1934 edition of the American Type Foundry’s “Book of American Type” is a sans serif design with rounded terminals that emulates a typewriter face. “Jumbo Typewriter” is reminiscent of the type of lettering formerly found on teletype news copy. “Teletype” was a division of Western Electric (part of AT&T), and the machines utilized telephone lines to electronically type and send (as well as receive) messages worldwide. Many folks will remember the sound of teletype machines in the background when radio stations had their news breaks. Now available digitally as News Copy JNL, it is available in both regular and oblique versions.
