Vabi Dasabi is a unique japanese hand drawn brush font. Combustible is a hot, handwritten script font. I don’t really know why I named it Combustible - maybe because I scribbled this one down with near frozen hands. Combustible was made with a medium sized Japanese brush pen. It is a messy script, yet highly legible. Comes with double letter ligatures and a matchbox full of diacritics.

Yasuragi means ‘Peace of Mind’ or ‘Tranquility’ in Japanese. It is something I do not have a lot of since the corona lockdown…the ;-) Yasuragi is a handmade script font. It is quite neat, quite elegant and quite useful (in a tranquil, peace-of-mind kinda way). Yasuragi comes with double letter ligatures and all the diacritics you want.

Who doesn’t like Spaghetti & Cheese? Well, my son doesn’t like it, because he hates cheese, but he seems to be one of the few. Spaghetti & Cheese is also a handmade font: slightly slanted, slightly eroded, yet very legible and clear. It was made with a Japanese ‘Shake & Write’ marker pen. Comes with a generous topping of diacritics.

Java Temple is a Display Font that is inspired by the uniqueness of Javanese culture, thus presenting a very dynamic font form that is very suitable for various design purposes, especially with traditional cultural themes with unique and authentic characteristics.

This display font has an oriental character reminiscent of brush stroke calligraphy and all things Japanese. My original working title for this font was ‘Spanner’, because the lower case ‘c’, with which the design began, looked rather like the head of a spanner. I originally had in mind something more mechanical, but as it evolved and developed the font itself obviously had other ideas!

Iyannu has no meaning in its self. This font is made to be very quiet and simple yet to be unique. Iyannu is created by Japanese designer and it is designed so called "Retro Future" like cyberpunk in Tokyo. When font is made strictly with mathematic sometimes it looks unbalanced. So this font is mixing mathematics method and optical illusion of view to maintain the clear balance.

Makise is an all caps font created with a natural handwriting brush that was designed to be close to the Japanese calligraphy style. This font very useful for multipurpose projects such as logo, branding, poster, headline, and many more. Makise is easy to use, you don't need special design software to access all characters. Designed in 1950s Japan by Okanao & Kushiro, the perfect partnership until artistic temperaments drove them apart. The duo spent years crafting the font with the working title “Messenjā”, Okanao bringing technical expertise to craft letterforms, while Kushiro made it his life, obsessively working late into the night to check pages for errors. For him the project was never about making money, it was an artistic endeavor to reprint the great Western works of literature. When he found out Okanao had secretly sold the rights to the font for use as a logo for a major Japanese manufacturer, Kushiro burned all evidence of the designs in a fit of passionate fury. The two reportedly never spoke again. “Messenjā” was thought lost forever until a type specimen was discovered in a vintage typewriter box bought on eBay. Now redrawn and available as 57-nao, a faithful and beautifully crafted monospace characterized by what is considered Okanao’s defining moment, the angular loop on the lowercase ‘a’.

Aeronic is a work of love. I stumbled upon a fantastic Japanese poster for Nikke Coat by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907 - 1981). Gihachiro Okuyama (also: Okayama) was a very prolific Japanese print artist who started his career making woodblock prints, but later moved on to posters and advertisements. I tried to recreate the hand lettering in the original 1937 Nikke Coat poster, but since I had to work with a few glyphs only, I designed the remaining ones myself. The outline of Aeronic is rather thin, with thicker bits in some glyphs. It is quite rough in places, but it all adds to its unique look. Aeronic comes with a bonanza of diacritics.

My name is Teruyoshi Matsui. I live in Japan. I am a Brush Artist. I artistically write the letters of the alphabet with a Japanese brush. I have created the font “ BrushType Longhand”. It was originally named "BrushType Alternative". But I changed my mind before it was completed. At first I aimed at an alternative font. But while I was trying to make it alternative, I realized that it was not. Of course there are many alternative letters that you have never seen before among them, so you have to be careful using the font. If you are a progressive and defiant designer trying to discriminate against others' designs, you should own my font "BrushType Longhand". Be ambitious! This is the word I will give you. I am ambitious ,too. No one in the world creates brush fonts like me. I am the only one as a Brush Artist though no one knows. I will be a world artist some day. Bitumen is a sticky, black, and highly viscous liquid form of petroleum. When I created this font, it reminded me a bit of asphalt, hence the name. Bitumen is a handmade font based on Schmallfette Grotesk by Walter Haettenschweiler and Haettenschweiler font. The font was made with a Japanese brush pen, hence the bold lines. Bitumen comes in two styles: the regular, fat display font and a lighter version - both with italics.

Ascender™ Uni is a proportionally spaced comprehensive Unicode-compatible font with support for the Unicode Standard, v2.1 (supporting most major code pages and character sets in modern use). Brouillard means ‘fog’ in French. I like the ‘oui’ letter combination and I was looking for a name for this font that contained those letters. I found Brouillard and presto: a new font was born! Brouillard font was handmade with a Japanese pen. It is an elegant, curvy and quite stylish font with a bit of a roughness to it - just enough to catch your attention. All three styles come with a load of diacritics.

Laraboyok is an ethnic display font inspired by Javanese script. This font is perfect for displays with traditional and ethnic themes, and also works great for logos, branding, greeting cards, invitation cards, advertisements, titles, headlines, book titles, stickers, packaging, quotes, posters, t-shirts/apparel, billboards, etc.

Kodama are spirits in Japanese folklore that inhabit trees. The term is also used for trees in which a kodama houses. Kodama Forest is a rough, spikey and inky font, in the style of the great Ralph Steadman. Kodama Forest comes with a bunch of alternates, some interesting ligatures and a lot of splatter. And, of course, all the diacritics you can throw a tree spirit at.

Tobu means 'to jump' in Japanese. I came across a haiku by Matsuo Bashô wich reads: The old pond… a frog jumps in… the sound of water (Furu ike ya… kawazu tobikomu… mizu no oto). The font is named Tobu because of its jumpy character: it doesn't have a real baseline, which makes it playful and fun to use. Tobu comes with a pond full of diacritics.

Okay-A lets you make 3D letters that look to be fastened down with screws. Inspired by the angular futuristic shapes of Japanese Katakana letters, this angular font is bold and square. Okay-A lets you easily make multicolour logos or signs as the styles can be overlaid. It features extended characters, containing West European diacritics & ligatures, making it suitable for international environments & publications.

A Japanese design firm called Maniackers put together a typeface design in 2001, which they called Snail. This typeface is based on that design, with a few tasty modifications and some industrial-strength kerning, so that the letters literally slither across the page. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

Choc is the work of French designer Roger Excoffon, based on the traditions of Japanese brush calligraphy, thick yet graceful. Choc light was designed by Phil Grimshaw, who had to redraw many times in different weights before finding one that worked as a text face and remained true to the original.

Office Squeeze was made with a Japanese brush pen. I kind of like the fact that, despite its roughness, Office Squeeze still maintains a very neat appearance. Office Squeeze can be used for just about anything, but product packaging, logos and posters spring to mind. Comes with a generous square footage of diacritics.

Irena is a cubist/expressionist font inspired by Vojtěch Preissig. Preissig (1873-1944) was a Czech typographer, printmaker, illustrator and teacher, whose work was influenced by Japanese Art and Symbolism. During WWII, Preissig supported the Czech resistance and he was arrested in 1940. He died on June 11th in Dachau concentration camp. This font was named after his daughter Irena Bernášková. The Irena font is angular and square(ish), yet easy to read. It comes with extensive language support.

Satsuma. It used to be only a Japanese orange, but now it's a typeface as well. A rather unusual typeface. Satsuma is rough around the edges, squarish and playful. It is handmade and comes with over 400 interlocking ligatures. If that ain't fun, I don't know what is! Of course, Satsuma comes with extensive language support AND accented ligatures! Due to the complexity of this font, it only comes as TTF.

Tazugane Info is a Japanese typeface family developed by the Monotype Studio, an alternative set of kana designed to match the kanji and Latin alphabet which retains the original form of the Tazugane Gothic. In contrast to the Tazugane Gothic, the kana of Info family is more systematically designed in order to give the text a calm, restraint look.

Akebono means dawn in Japanese. It expresses the pleasure of imbalance. Stems and strokes are mixed--straight and round with slender terminals and arches. Akebono is available in three styles; Regular, Alternate, Italic. Akebono Alternate resembles the Regular but features some of the hooked tails found on the Italic. Skid Row is the work of Japanese designer Akira Kobayashi and named after a song from his favorite film, Little Shop of Horrors. It is an informal script typeface whose unique, streaky appearance was first drawn with a brush and then refined to give the typeface an even texture. Skid Row is particularly effective in large display applications.

Ten Oldstyle is a four-weight type family from Principal Designer Robert Slimbach at Adobe. He designed it as the Latin component of Ten Mincho, a Japanese typeface by Adobe?s Chief Designer Ryoko Nishizuka. As it began to take the form of a small type family, Robert decided to release Ten Oldstyle on its own as well.
