Architype Crouwel is a collection of typefaces created in collaboration with Wim Crouwel, following his agreement with The Foundry, to recreate his experimental alphabets as digital fonts. Crouwel's most recognized work was for the Van Abbe and Stedelijk museums (1954 –72) where he established his reputation for radical, grid-based design. The Fodor letterforms were created for the magazine published by Museum Fodor, Amsterdam. To save cost it was designed to be ‘typeset’ on their own electric typewriter. The resulting monospaced effect was combined with a background of orange overlaid with pink dots that provided a page grid to align the text to. The title set on the dot matrix formed the 'system' for construction of the ‘digital effect’ letterforms. Now Architype Fodor recreates these letterforms as a truly digital font.

The Dutch De Stijl movement (1917-1931) sought to create an art which took abstraction to its logical extreme, as exhibited in the paintings of Piet Mondrian. Inspired by the movement's philosophy of pure form, P22's De Stijl set features three rigid, balanced, and angular fonts and a set of geometric extras.

Sans-serif typefaces compensate for their basic handicap – an absence of serifs – with a softening modulation typical of roman typefaces. Grotesques often inherit a hypertrophy of the x-height, which is very efficient, but not very beautiful. They are like dogs with fat bodies and short legs. Why do we love old Garamonds? Beside beautifully modeled details, they possess aspect-ratios of parts within characters that timelessly and beauteously parallel the anatomy of the human body. Proportions of thighs, arms or legs have their universal rules, but cannot be measured by pixels and millimeters. These sometimes produce almost unnoticeable inner tensions, perceptible only very slowly, after a period of living with the type. Serifed typefaces are open to many possibilities in this regard; when a character is mounted on its edges with serifs, what is happening in between is more freely up to the designer. In the case of grotesques, everything is visible; the shape of the letter must exist in absolute nakedness and total simplicity, and must somehow also be spirited and original.

This is the digital makeover and major expansion of a one-of-a-kind melting pot experiment done by VGC and released under the name Mardi Gras in the early 1960s. It is an unexpected jambalaya of Art Nouveau, Tuscan, wedge serifs, curlycues, ball endings, wood type spurs and swashes, geometry and ornamental elements that on the surface seem to be completely unrelated. But the totality works in a surprisingly loud and playful way that really defies categorization. Jingo is really five fonts in one: Over 1000 glyphs, four character sets, ornaments, swashes and ligatures. The forms are interchangeable in uppercase, lowercase and unicase settings. There is nothing low-key about this typeface. It is well suited for use on posters and book covers that require happy weirdness. But most of all it's great for those who like to fiddle with their type setting until amazingly conicidental pleasantnesses ensue. Ocean Beach is a fun, retro, all-caps Nautical Art Deco headline font. The recent tragedies in America have resulted in a tremendous need for donations. This new font was created to benefit the victims in New York. DT Portal: This stylised, partially serifed font, made with a slightly rounded square form, may have been inspired initially by old cathode ray tubes and computer screens. Although not intended to be purely a ‘tech’ font, it can have a strong tech feel to it. More suited to being a headline font than body text. It also appears to have a monospaced look to it, since most letters, (other than letters like ‘i, l and t’), do have the same width. There is some automatic contextual shape adjustment happening in places, to avoid taking up too much space, so contextual ligatures should be turned on. As is the case with most of my fonts, when given the choice, ‘metric’ spacing should be used in preference to ‘optical’. Initially this font was going to be called ‘DT Portal’, because its form was similar to that of a window or doorway. But due to other fonts already having that name, I chose to rename it as ‘DT Partel’, for no reason other than it is only a very small change visually.

Based on lettering on a poster for an 1907 art exhibition by Joseph Maria Olbrich. Use uppercase characters for headlines, and lowercase letters for text use. For “dotted” spaces, use the underscore, and brackets or braces for framing characters. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Hoplight is a friendly, curvy, hybrid. A fusion of the cool character of a roman, with the flow and informality of an italic. Throughout Hoplight, many sharp serifs have been replaced by dot style serifs, to allow the contours of the letters to flow seamlessly into the terminations. Hoplight embodies a sense of playful ease.

Brainstroke is a collection of twelve variations on a typeface. This release was supposed to be a much larger set, but due to a medical issue, where I recently suffered a stroke, I am releasing only those that I managed to complete. The name is a reminder to me to take care of my health.

Goma Mono is a display monospaced rounded sans serif font built in ten styles. This family, with five weights, covers a wide variety of character due to the large difference in thickness. The typeface can be used perfectly in display sizes and logos. Goma Mono is released with 414 glyphs and includes Open Type features.

Gikit is a very raw and quirky typeface structured according to a strict grid. The design is massive, with very little curve (just the dots and a few punctuation marks). A really stand out characteristic is Gikit’s accents that crush the forms. The type is drawn with 2 styles, for 2 uses: Tittle or Text.

Moi Non Plus is a wonderful, handwritten font. It has a somewhat chaotic look, but is stylish nonetheless. The name was taken from a famous Serge Gainsbourg song called 'Je t'aime - moi non plus', which caused a bit of a scandal when it was released in the '60's, due to its overtly sexual content.

Agrus in Ukrainian means "gooseberry". The letters are rounded like the berries and the sharp end elements remind of the barbs. In fact, the font is an intricate italic type. Optical compensations are purely decorative and rhyme with thin connecting lines. Design of this font is one hundred percent due to “strength of material”

Rosalinde is an original font based on rough hand-lettering reminiscent of 1960s era protest poster lettering. It's the kind of lettering you'd expect to see used for a snippet of anti-war poetry set against a red-white-and-blue striped background, or perhaps accompanied by a fat dove with an olive-branch.

The typeface (formerly known as Kudryashevskaya Entsiklopedicheskaya) was designed in 1960-1974 by Nikolay Kudryashev and Zinaida Maslennikova at Polygraphmash type design bureau for the Bol'shaya Sovetskaya Entsiklopedia (the Large Soviet Encyclopaedia) publishing house. New improved digital design and extention of character set was done by Natalia Vasilyeva and released by ParaType in 2008

From the title on the sheet music for the 1935 composition "Along Tobacco Road" comes Deco Triline JNL in both regular and oblique versions. Reminiscent of Broadway if done as a neon sign, this typeface virtually shouts about the Manhattan nightlife of the 1930s. For maximum readability, space the letters a bit wider than normal.

Hyggebukser are very comfortable trousers in danish. Trousers you'd wear after a long days work, when you just need to relax. The same goes for this font - it has something very comfortable to it!
