Primrose Gardens is a lovely, loopy all caps font. Mix and match loopy capitals with plain jane lowercase letters for a whimsical vibe. Trackpad is the work of British designer Timothy Donaldson, an easy, free-spirited typeface. Don't let the undisciplined style fool you. The Greek-influenced hand lettering on a 1930s WPA (Works Progress Administration) poster for the Federal Theater presentation of "Trojan Incident" inspired Euripedes JNL. The play was based on Homer and Euripedes, and was presented at the off-Broadway St. James Theatre (which opened in 1927 at 246 W. 44th Street on the site of the original Sardi's restaurant).

ITC Freddo is the work of New York designer James Montalbano and was inspired by a sign lettering manual from the 1930s. Montalbano liked the character shapes illustrated in this manual but found many of the proportions odd. So he reinterpreted them to produce capitals and lower case letters which, according to today's standards, better complement one another.

A 1935 song with the unusual title of "Dinner for One Please, James" had its title hand lettered on the cover of the sheet music with simple, condensed letters made by a round point dip pen. This has been reproduced in a digital font as Pen Lettering Sans JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

ITC Farmhaus is the work of British designer Tim Donaldson and is, in his own words, Neil Young meets Paul Renner." Donaldson borrowed the perfect circles and clean lines of Renner's drawings for Futura and gave them jagged edges and uneven, thick strokes. Farmhaus contains one set of capitals and two sets of lower case letters."

Monotype’s hot metal Bell series from 1931 was based on original types made by the punchcutter Richard Austin for the foundry of John Bell in the 1780s. The different sizes of Monotype’s series were not all based on the same model. As type historian James Mosley wrote on Typophile, “For 18 point and above (the metal type was cut in sizes up to 36 point) Monotype’s model was a larger type [than the model used for the text sizes], the ‘Great Primer’ cut by Austin. This has greater contrast in the capitals and a flat foot to letter a.” The digital Bell closely follows the design of the hot metal 18pt version, and is therefore somewhat lighter in color than the text sizes of Monotype’s original metal face. In August 1930, Jan Tschichold described a new typeface, that is "producable by everybody without further knowledge" in the publication Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandel. Sebastian Nagel has extended the original drawing to 7 weights (black, extrabold, bold, semibold, regular, semilight and light), with full coverage of the Latin 1 character set. All fonts also include small caps and alternate characters.

Neverland is my attemp of a lettering font. I was inspired by the letters in displays of retaurants. It will work great in posters, shirts, magazines and displays because it has a charming feel. I received a lot of help from my good friend Maximiliano Sproviero (Lián Types). The name is based on the tale of Peter Pan from James Matthew Barrie.

This font clearly illustrates Jan Tschichold’s dictum that the New Typography would employ “the simplest form” and “the minimum means.” Based on his typeface Transito, the letterforms are as fresh and vibrant today as they were when introduced in 1931. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Although less prevalent today, a cover charge was added to better class night clubs of the 1930s and 1940s to discourage patronage by people of questionable social graces. The general idea was that the lower strata of society (meaning the "average Joe" or "hoi polloi") would balk at paying an extra fee just for entrance to a place of good entertainment and fine dining.

Skyline was commissioned from Font Bureau by Condé Nast specifically as a headline typeface for Traveler magazine. This strongly personal work by Imre Reiner from 1929 and 1934 was known in Europe as Corvinus. Skyline Black and Bold Condensed offer immediate headline recognition through Reiner’s variations on the themes found in the classical Modern structure. Bague is a classical roman typeface, which was inspired in Old Dutch style, especially in the work of Jan Van Krimpen. Ramkoers means ‘Collision Course’ in Dutch. I made this font with a bit of salvaged plastic and thick black paint. I carved a wedge out of the plastic and used it as a spatula to apply the paint to the paper. Ramkoers is a bit of a rough & ready grunge font with some jagged edges and wobbly stems. Comes with an abundance of diacritics.

Another filter effect version of Adhesive Serif Letters JNL (of which the original design was modeled after some vintage gummed letters used for signage) and is called Shattered Dreams JNL. This variant has jagged edges all around and is kind of reminiscent of shapes you could make with a small magnet and iron filings. Shattered Dreams JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Nastaleeq (Nasta?l?q) ASC is a script font supporting Urdu. Urdu is the nation language of Pakistan. The Nastaleeq ASC font is Unicode encoded. The Nastaleeq ASC font requires an application program which supports Arabic fonts (right-to-left composition). Urdu is also spoken in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Botswana, Fiji, Germany, Guyana, India, Malawi, Mauritius, Nepal, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, the UAE, the UK and Zambia.

Keetoowah evolved from a just a few letters in a sketch for a sorority t-shirt design. They loved it and kept asking for more of the same. The only solution was to make a font. These characters were made to be broken up, two toned, rotated, merged and jammed together. But, Keetoowah has a serious side. It has a great Southwestern flavor like smokey BBQ and patterned blankets.

Canadian Serge Pichii was inspired by decorative lettering produced during the early 1920s by Jan Tschichold to create Ironwork. Similarly, his ITC Ancestor family was influenced by early work, but in this case, much earlier work: the characters carved by native British Columbian people on solid rock. He worked with anthropologists and linguists to produce a series of books dedicated to the history and culture of the people.

The 1888 edtion of James Conner's Sons United States Type Foundry specimen book listed this little gem simply as "Antique Light". Its original, rather anemic outlines have been beefed up and its serifs have been rounded, with the result that this face will get noticed wherever it goes. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and CE 1250 character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Visum means Visa in Dutch. The name was inspired by Dutch soccer club Vitesse's rather sad decision to leave Israeli player Dan Mori behind, after he was refused a UAE visa because of his nationality. Visum font is a tall and proud all caps typeface. It comes with alternates for the lower case letters, some ligatures and an impressive language support. Of course, upper and lower case glyphs can be freely interchanged.

An inspiration for two fonts of FA Modernista was the second page of Polish vanguard magazine "Praesens" Nr 1 from 1926 designed (as the first page) by Henryk Stażewski. The type applied - Baccarat was a sans serif from Polish foundry Jan Idźkowski i S-ka. Fonts FA Modernista imitate the effect of letterpress with spilled printing ink. Letters of two cuts vary in distortion as in the old days of letterpress technology.

Note: This family only contains Capital letters Jadeite is a geometric monospaced display font. The typeface has a distinct style inspired by the Mid-Century Modern era and designed to be easy to read. The Jadeite name comes from a mineral form of jade and also represents a color of green, reminiscent and popular of the 1950’s era.
