  17. Trapper by Typeco, $29.00
Trapper is so named because it exploits a typographic design mechanism known as ink traps purely for graphic effect. For Trapper the ink trap is overused for exaggerated visual effect. This gives the Round version a playful twisted balloons look while the Sharp has a stern mechanical default effect. Trapper is a versatile font family of 8 fonts -- Sharp and Round variations in regular and bold weights each with an accompanying oblique.

  19. Mixolydian by Typodermic, $11.95
Introducing Mixolydian, the scientific sans-serif typeface that’s anything but pretty. But don’t let its lack of aesthetics fool you; it packs a punch with its industrial and analytical tone. Unlike those fancy, European technical fonts, Mixolydian was made with an American flair in mind. Some of its graphic elements were even derived from the Federal Highway Administration Standard alphabet and architectural drafting templates. And let’s talk about those letters. Mixolydian’s intentionally off-kilter rhythm gives it a utilitarian, scientific vibe that’s perfect for any data-driven project. No need for frills or fuss here; Mixolydian is all about getting the job done. But that’s not all—the Mixolydian family comes in six weights and six highly inclined obliques, making it versatile enough for any design project you can dream up. So if you’re looking for a typeface that’s deliberately unattractive but highly effective, Mixolydian is your answer. Most Latin-based European writing systems are supported, including the following languages. Afaan Oromo, Afar, Afrikaans, Albanian, Alsatian, Aromanian, Aymara, Bashkir (Latin), Basque, Belarusian (Latin), Bemba, Bikol, Bosnian, Breton, Cape Verdean, Creole, Catalan, Cebuano, Chamorro, Chavacano, Chichewa, Crimean Tatar (Latin), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dawan, Dholuo, Dutch, English, Estonian, Faroese, Fijian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Frisian, Friulian, Gagauz (Latin), Galician, Ganda, Genoese, German, Greenlandic, Guadeloupean Creole, Haitian Creole, Hawaiian, Hiligaynon, Hungarian, Icelandic, Ilocano, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Jamaican, Kaqchikel, Karakalpak (Latin), Kashubian, Kikongo, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Kurdish (Latin), Latvian, Lithuanian, Lombard, Low Saxon, Luxembourgish, Maasai, Makhuwa, Malay, Maltese, Māori, Moldovan, Montenegrin, Ndebele, Neapolitan, Norwegian, Novial, Occitan, Ossetian (Latin), Papiamento, Piedmontese, Polish, Portuguese, Quechua, Rarotongan, Romanian, Romansh, Sami, Sango, Saramaccan, Sardinian, Scottish Gaelic, Serbian (Latin), Shona, Sicilian, Silesian, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Sorbian, Sotho, Spanish, Swahili, Swazi, Swedish, Tagalog, Tahitian, Tetum, Tongan, Tshiluba, Tsonga, Tswana, Tumbuka, Turkish, Turkmen (Latin), Tuvaluan, Uzbek (Latin), Venetian, Vepsian, Võro, Walloon, Waray-Waray, Wayuu, Welsh, Wolof, Xhosa, Yapese, Zapotec Zulu and Zuni.
  20. Cooper Nouveau by House Industries, $33.00
Few fonts reach cult status. Despite its ubiquity—and perhaps because of its lack of subtlety—for a hundred years Cooper continues to draw the faithful. It’s even come to define an entire typographic genre and recently starred in its own documentary. Cooper Nouveau is Dave West’s imaginative contribution to the Cooper oeuvre. Drawn in 1966, Nouveau refreshes Oswald Cooper’s original italic with an energetic pitch, simplified contours, and a plump friendly figure. Uniform strokes and generous curves push the font’s playful personality and springy silhouette even further. A selection of swashed characters and ligatures offers options for lively logos and strong captions. While Cooper Nouveau looks laid-back and easy-going, it’s more than capable of pulling it’s own typographic weight. Put it to work where relaxed needs to project confident. Set Nouveau large for eye-magnet posters, packaging, and advertisements. Maximize its youthful energy for kids’ themes, craft action, and apparel bounce. Or set it alongside a master like Benguiat Buffalo or Chalet to show how Cooper Nouveau can communicate on paper and screens with an inherent ability to speak the language of style in many tongues. But like any cult icon: beware! Cooper has a way of setting the needle, and Nouveau just may become your go-to design fix. FEATURES ALTERNATES: Cooper Nouveau contains several alternate characters, which add flair to your designs and can help solve spacing issues LIGATURES: Many letter combinations in Cooper Nouveau form a ligature to solve spacing issues and produce more pleasing designs. COOPER NOUVEAU CREDITS Typeface Design: Dave West Digitization: Dave Foster Typeface Direction: Ben Kiel, with Ken Barber Like all good subversives, House Industries hides in plain sight while amplifying the look, feel and style of the world’s most interesting brands, products and people. Like Cabrito Inverto , its stress-reversing cousin, the new Cabrito Sans serves up something nice and cool in the heat of the project. Cabrito Sans' whole pack of alternates is accessible in any OpenType-enabled program. This kiddo consists of a workforce of alternates, swashes, and alternate titling caps to give the font a little extra sweetener to its flavor. Also bundled are swash alternates, old style figures, and compact caps. Check out the interactive PDF brochure to test out each these options. This font family members also consists of the glyphs for 72 various languages. Cabrito Inverto and Cabrito do pair nicely with Cabrito Sans (in case you doubted). 40. Wave by Jennifer Delaney Designs, $23.00
WAVE is characterized by curved lines and intricate details. Each character was individually made in Illustrator and Type Tool using my original illustrations. Wave is a decorative font best used for titles or short bursts of texts in large point settings. The typeface is based on the uppercase letterforms, but I have also created lowercase letters, numbers, and glyphs. The motion lines used in the making of Wave mirror an art deco-style. Inspired by an illustration of a large wave, I was fascinated that by using only lines and solid colors we as artists can depict the translucency and ever-changing movement of waves. I began by delicately sketching out all of the letters using graph paper and micron pens. My work always begins with traditional media. I'm an illustrator, freelance artist, and graphic designer from Chicago, IL. I studied at Texas Christian University, and received my Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design from Columbia College Chicago. Visit www.jennyddesigns.com for more! :)
