The Atrament font family was originally conceived in 2003 as the corporate display type family for Suitcase Type Foundry. Its original source of inspiration is the front cover of the Devetsil - Revolucni slovn’k almanac (1922), designed by Karel Teige. The lettering on this cover is a condensed sans serif with rounded stroke terminals. Atrament is significantly broader than the model and its characters are better balanced, reflecting the evolution of semi-condensed sans serifs throughout the 1960s. The horizontal strokes of both lower and upper case are less stressed than the vertical stems. Noteworthy are the unusual tiny gaps in the apex and vertex of letters with diagonal strokes, designed to prevent ink from spreading and smudging the letter shapes. This detail is one of the main features of the font's character. The general feel of the italics closely matches the strictly vertical, parallel character of the regular cut. When converting the family to OpenType the alternate character shapes from the Alternator weights were incorporated in the regular cut, which allows the user to switch selected characters from one shape to another within the same font. A number of glyphs and accents were corrected, and all the glyphs missing in the Suitcase Standard character set were added, along with the relevant kerning pairs. The individual weights of Atrament Std thus contain accented upper and lower case, small caps, alternate glyphs for most European languages, nine types of numerals, superscript characters, caps glyph versions, and much more. Its narrow proportions make Atrament the perfect choice whenever economy of space is a must. It is however not very well suited for setting long texts. The Siseriff family of types contains nine different styles, which were developed by the master Swedish typographer Bo Berndal in 2002. Siseriff is a contemporary slab serif face. Except for the Siseriff Black weight, all of the letters display a slightly condensed appearance that is coupled with a relatively uniform width throughout the alphabet. Siseriff's nine styles are distributed across five weights (Light, Regular, Semi Bold, Bold and Black). The Italic companions for these styles (Siseriff Black does not have an italic companion) are true italics. These redrawn italics add a higher degree of differentiation from the Roman weights than could be achieved with obliques alone. Many common Slab Serif families (e.g., Serifa) do not offer this degree of differentiation. This variety makes Siseriff the perfect choice for journalistic and editorial work, where a good hierarchy may be achieved solely by relying on the various weights available, and their italics. The lettering found on an 1878 Salt Lake City advertisement for the Forepaugh’s Circus inspired Faux Pas JNL, which is a bit of a pun on the circus’ name and also a commentary on how this unusual lettering style seems to break all of the rules on stroke width and balance. According to Wikipedia: “Adam John Forepaugh (February 28, 1831 - January 22, 1890) was an American entrepreneur, businessman, and circus owner. Forepaugh owned and operated a circus from 1865 through 1890 under various names including Forepaugh's Circus, The Great Forepaugh Show, The Adam Forepaugh Circus, and Forepaugh & The Wild West. In 1889, Forepaugh sold his circus acts to James Anthony Bailey and James E. Cooper and he sold his railroad cars to the Ringling Brothers. The Ringlings used the equipment to transform their circus from a small animal-powered production to a huge rail-powered behemoth, which later purchased the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Original Paneuropa was a renowned and highly popular typeface in XX-century Poland, and was widely used in all kinds of design, editorial use and printed materials for decades. In the sketches that formed the basis for his typeface Biome, Crossgrove experimented with inner and outer shapes in different styles, adapted letters to the form of the super-ellipse, and added curves only to remove these again. Biome is essentially in the sans serif tradition and the letters exhibit only minor variations in terms of line thickness. The more unconventionally shaped letters, such as the lowercase 'g' with its two semi-open counters and the 'k' and 'x' with their crossbars, provide Biome with an individual personality. And this effect is emphasized by the generously rounded links in the 'v' and 'w' and the uppercase 'M' and 'N'. Biome has been designed as a typeface super-family. From the near hairline Extra Light to the amply proportioned Ultra, there are seven clearly differentiated weights and three tracking widths. There are oblique italic versions of all variants.
