Morris Fuller Benton's Hobo [designed in 1910] is one of a number of fonts which have been so over-used that many designers shy away from it altogether. However, Jeff Levine had often wondered what the design might look like it given a serif treatment. The result is Rail Bum JNL, named for the hobos and transients who hitched along on freight cars to ride the rails across the country during the years when trains were the mainstay of American transportation.

First cut by Lanston Monotype, the Goudy Modern font family was based on designs used by French engravers during the eighteenth century. Although called a modern it possesses a number of old style characteristics. Capitals are much shorter than the ascenders, serifs are fully bracketed and round shapes have a slight stress. The overall weight of Monotype Goudy Modern is on the heavy side, giving good emphasis in display sizes but it is not too heavy for use in text.

Magazine Grotesque is a sans-serif font specially designed for headlines and titles. Its unique features make it different from the traditional Grotesk typefaces. For example, outstroke extending beyond body in 'a' and 'e' letters or closed aperture in 'c', creating an unusual rhythm. Originally, Viktor Solt-Bittner developed Attorney as a custom font for a law firm, hence its name. Attorney shows a systematic, yet unconventional placing of its serifs, hard corners and a clean design. The typeface was produced by Schriftlabor’s type director, Lisa Schultz. Attorney consists of 7 weights, from Light to Black, each of them accompanied by an italic, totaling in 14 styles. Yngreena is a serifed typeface with calligraphic origins. In updating it in 2011, I began to add alternative letters and reached the point where it made sense to create an alternative family of faces rather than include all the alternatives as part of an OpenType font. The letters K, R, V, W, Y, f, g, k, t, v, and w are tamer in Yngreena Alt. As a result, though it is still a decorative text face, Yngreena Alt is better suited for lengthier blocks of text than is the original Yngreena face.

Sometimes type designs are set aside as one project takes priority over another and occasionally it becomes overlooked. One such example is a set of extra bold, sans serif stencil characters drawn out in 2017. Regrettably, as much time has passed, no backstory can be applied to this typeface. It was checked against existing releases in the Jeff Levine Fonts library and didn’t seem to have been re-worked for any subsequent release. With this in mind, Baggage Claim JNL makes its belated appearance and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Zania is a display typeface. Its characteristic element is cutting in the stem that makes this font very memorable and easy to recognize. Contains stylistic alternates, ligatures, diacritics, and OpenType features that will help you make your project more unique. Has an experimental vibe and nice movement from left to the right thanks to serifs placed in the top left and bottom right part of the letter. It has smooth edges that make it look more friendly. The Flounder Pro is a simple and clean condensed all-caps sans serif font. It is a close relative of the Floz, but has rounded edges. It comes with Cyrillic, Greek and Latin alphabets, the latter including loads of accented characters. It is also equipped with a bunch of ligatures, as well as alternates for the letters J, W, Q, Z, Ω and Ξ. Those features are easily accessible via opentype features. This family includes three weights with their respective italics and backslanted versions. The Flounder works well for Logos, Headlines, or short texts.

Corso is a clean condensed sans serif font family. It comes in upright, slanted and italic, in six weights each. It includes useful typographic features such as fractions, ligatures and case sensitive forms. Also included are double- or single-storey versions of a and g, you can switch via stylistic OpenType sets. Other letters with alternative forms accessible the same way are ß and ampersand. Corso works especially great for larger size uses such as signage, headlines or posters. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t also useable for short texts.
