The Generic Typeface Collection is a series of sans-serif typefaces inspired by the craftsmanship of graphic design, typesetting, and printing in the analogue era – before Adobe, Macintosh computers and desktop publishing – when dinosaurs ruled the earth. With the use of various typesetting apparatuses or dry transfer type, photo copiers, and shooting layouts and paste-ups to film, the printed results was not as exact, precise and predictable as it is today. When examining old prints, it is difficult not to like the way that characters in over- or underexposed film have a special type of vibe to them that is often sadly lost in today’s pursuit of total perfection. Encouraged by this, I saw a need for a collection of typefaces that are non-clinical and non-conformist, and some that are coarse, rough and distorted – errors that might come from poor exposure when put on film, enlargements from small point texts, or maybe quality loss from successive generations of photocopies. Or all of the above. This is an attempt to incorporate spirit and personality into a set of typefaces without losing distinction. You might call it a homage to non-perfection. I call it human. New Millennium is one of three font families that share a common name, a common design philosophy, a common x-height, and basic character shapes. (The others are New Millennium Sans and New Millennium Linear; all three work well together.) New Millennium is a serif face of what some might describe as a "modern style." But although it has flat serifs, it differs markedly from, say, Bodoni or Didot -- especially in the italic, which is a radical departure from tradition. (The bold styles are in fact sans-serif, identical to those of New Millennium Sans.) There's also a nice, dark Headline style for display text. New Millennium is a distinctive, legible, accessible text face that might be well suited to, say, scientific documentation.

Hobi was influenced by Spaza. In it I tried to highlight the dissonance between the irregular outlines of the characters and the formality suggested by the serifs of the characters. Differences from Spaza are: -- character heights from the baseline; -- the presence of serifs; and -- variations in the character outlines to accomodate the different balance that the characters require in terms of the presence of serifs. Hobi is loose, funky and quite contemporary. The font can be used with great effect in a great variety of applications such as advertisements, flyers, posters, magazine pages and in movie credits. Hobi contains a full character set with all upper and lower case characters, numerals, symbols, accented characters and it has been carefully spaced and kerned.

Bodoni expresses the beginning of the Industrial Revolution; its serifs are flat, think and unbracketed, while the stress is always on the mathematically vertical strokes. Bodoni believed in plenty of white space and therefore descenders are long. The M is rather narrow; in the Q the tail at first descends vertically and the R has a curled tail. The italic, like most continental modern faces, has roman serifs. Monotype Bodoni provides a clear-cut effect due to its simplicity. It reproduces well, particularly in sizes over 12pt. This font is slightly darker than Bauer Bodoni. The contrast makes Monotype Bodoni appear more condensed.

Zona Black is a geometric sans–serif display black typeface. It was inspired by typography from 1920's posters featuring clean lines and some quite distinct glyphs such as the uppercase B and the H. Despite being black it's tall x–height makes Zona quite legible even in smaller sizes.
