The Quarantinus font was created during the 2020 covid 19 lock-down. Tranquility being all around, the JOEBOB graphics studio almost felt like a monastery, and as a result my style of writing and my choice of pen had to fit. All this writing was turned into an authentic handwritten script font with over 150 ligatures, which make it look very credible and spontaneous. The font is especially suitable for personalized 'handwritten' notes, cards and messages. It can be used on T-shirts and on shop-windows. It has an 'instant logo' quality, it can be used for tattoo-designs and it screams home-made everything. And in case you are a writer you now have an option to print your work in a way that seems as if you wrote it yourself. Scratch SCF is a grunge font with a difference. It has an irregular, almost random outline that suggests an old-fashioned quill pen that is leaking and scratching its way across the page. There are also connotations of simplicity, of a writer that is unsophisticated, possibly learning to write for the first time. This is a font that avoids all the associations of slick, worldly-wise urbanity, of cynicism and of "the medium being more important than the message". Instead the simplicity of Scratch SCF conveys a sincerity and integrity of design that bespeaks simplicity and old-fashioned honesty. All these associations are conveyed with a contemporary look, without resorting to rehashing the past with yet another retro font. Scratch SCF has a full character set: all upper and lower case characters, all special and accented characters and all punctuation, numerical and mathematical characters. All have been carefully spaced and kerned. Scratch SCF Staggered is a little more "grungy" than the regular style because the individual letters do not rest on the same baseline and thus have more vitality.

‘Пивная’ (Pivnaya) means ‘bar’ or ‘brewhouse’ in Russian. Pivnaya Latin is a display font published by Roman Type. Initially designed for a poster, the family quickly turned multi-script. In 2019, the global design community is busy celebrating the centennial of Bauhaus, silently triggering the question as to if or how the phenomenon matters in the lives we lead today, or whether it could rather be reduced to mere historic purposes. At that point, I found myself falling into the Bauhaus trap myself, preparing a typeface design workshop for a group of Lithuanian and Russian students. But by a typing error, I accidently made Google translate ‘Brauhaus’ (brewhouse) instead of ‘Bauhaus’. That is why I called this family ‘Pivnaya’ in the end. Pivnaya Latin works for: Afrikaans, Albanian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Norwegian, Polish, Portugese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanisch, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Zulu. Though being a decorative font, the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) increases usability for all kinds of purposes.

Baissano is an all-caps display typeface that is inspired by the Mediterranean culture, environment and typographical landscape. Its letterforms have been directly inspired by the many alphabets found all around the Mediterranean. For instance, the E is inspired by the Caucasian Albanian alphabet and the Y is inspired by the Greek psi letter (ψ), and that’s just to cite a few examples. Mark van Bronkhorst designed MVB Celestia Antiqua at a time when font choice was limited. Design was characterized by overuse of the few fonts that came with laser printers. A rustic typeface, recalling the roughness and irregularity of pre-digital printing, was a response to the cold crispness of DTP. MVB Celestia Antiqua holds its own among a large group of other “weathered” serif fonts, in part due to the size of the family: three weights, small caps, italics, and two titling styles. But it's also successful because it's simply drawn well, the contours only as rough as they need to be, enabling text at any size, large or small.

Toma Sans is a sans serif type family of seven weights plus matching italics. Influenced by the geometric-style sans serif faces that were popular during the 1920s and 30s, the fonts are based on geometric forms that have been optically corrected for better legibility. While the ExtraLight and the black weights are great performers in display sizes the light, regular and medium weights are well suited to longer texts. Fabrikat Kompakt (formally known as Fabrikat) is a type family designed by Christoph Koeberlin with creative input of Hannes von Döhren. The Sans Serif family is published by HVD Fonts and consists of seven weights plus matching italics. Its geometric design is based on German 20th century engineers’ typefaces and has a plain and precise appearance. The shapes are optically corrected, yet retain an uncut charm. They work best in display as well as text sizes. The type family is equipped for complex, professional typography with OpenType Features like alternate letters, arrows, fractions and an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European Languages.

Orbi Sans was designed as an extension of the font system Orbi released on the end of 2010. It’s a low contrast humanist sans serif of open design with the elements of dynamic nature that inherited from Orbi its elegance and clearness. The faces were coordinated with Orbi on metrics, proportions, weights, and design features. Orbi Sans consists of 4 roman weights with corresponding true italics. It can be used together with Orbi and separately. Due to wide variety of styles the family is very good for books, periodicals, and business papers. The fonts were designed by Natalia Vasilyeva. Prelo was designed to be a neutral, highly readable typeface for identity, editorial and information design. With nine weights and nine true italics from Hairline to Black, Prelo is a workhorse typeface full of OpenType features such as small caps, tabular figures, central European characters and historical figures, among others. Like other DSType fonts, most of the diacritics were designed to fit the gap between the x-height and the caps height, avoiding some common problems with the accented characters. The curves are soft and smooth, providing legibility even in very poor conditions, and the neutrality allows this typeface to be used with any serif companion.

Marista is a bit of an unusual design, a cursive monospaced font inspired by the classic cursive typewriter fonts used in the 1960s-70s. It is designed to feel 'real', and captures some of the light irregularities in line weight which characterise real typewritten text rather than their computer equivalents. Marista is distinctive but easily readable, even in block text where some monospaced fonts suffer. Marista is best used at small to medium sizes, and at a uniform size throughout a document or design to capture the typewritten feel. The italic is more similar to authentic typewriter cursive fonts. Isard is a very agile typeface, honoring its name, which is the name of a type of mountain goat from the Catalan Pyrenees. I really like the moments when classic meets modern. Mathieu was inspired, by the proportions, texture and elegance of Renaissance typefaces, and by the works of Dutch typographers, in whom I have always appreciated the balance between the traditional approach and experiment. Mathieu has the features of a sans-serif typeface, but you can feel delicate notes of calligraphy through humanistic details. The whole family has several width options complemented by a slightly slanted but expressive italics – making it suitable for both longer texts and for use in visual identities.
