Roughcast is a kind of outside plaster, composed of cement and pebbles. It’s not the best looking plaster and it is estimated that in the UK, a roughcast outer reduces the value of a house by 5%. I am in the middle of renovating our old farm, but I won’t cover it in roughcast! Roughcast font is actually quite an attractive brush font. I made it with a brush I found hiding underneath my stove (where it had been for a while). I cleaned it and used it to make a couple of fonts, including Roughcast. Roughcast is best used for packaging, book covers and posters.

Rampage Monoline is a beautiful, sweet, vintage monoline font with movement and grace. The script comes in a regular and rounded version. Blanket is a friendly, baby-soft typeface with a gentle slant. With the warmth of an italic but less of the speed, it is designed primarily for use on child oriented material. The ‘schoolbook’ a and g are default, but the more adult double storey versions are available through stylistic sets / stylistic alternates. Blanket is child friendly without being childish. Typographically sophisticated, it features a wealth of figure styles, automatic fractions, ligatures, alternates, case sensitive forms and a small spattering of swashes. Although the intent was to make a typeface fit for children’s books, the finished product works well anywhere a casual (but not sloppy) look is desired.

ITC Handel Gothic Arabic is a modern Kufi design by Nadine Chahine, created especially for headlines and display purposes. It comes in 5 different weights ranging from Light to Heavy which extends its usage capabilities considerably. The design is mono-linear and with the typical geometric construction associated with the Kufi style. Its usage can vary from headlines to logos to packaging. Given its large counters, it can function quite well in very small sizes too. Its pattern is quite homogenous, so it is not recommended to use this for whole paragraphs. The character set supports Arabic, Persian, and Urdu and also includes Basic Latin.

The Goodlife type family is a lovely handlettering collection designed by Hannes von Döhren. It contains six different hand drawn fonts with loads of features and a set of extras such as catchwords, arrows, ornaments & more. With this set and a little bit of love and care it is possible to create beautiful “handmade” graphics. Equipped with automatically exchanging alternates, ligatures, end forms, swash letters and some other features, Goodlife is optimized to feel not just like a font but like true handletterings. Goodlife is made for complex, professional typography. The OpenType fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages.

Quache is a flexible sans-serif, created by Måns Grebäck between 2018 and 2020. It has unique, stylish curvatures and is clear, legible and sharp with open letter forms. This is a variable font. It is only one font file, but this file contains multiple styles. Use the sliders in Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign to manually set any weight and width. Alga is a high contrast modern typeface with a contemporary look. It has subtle details that make it appealing for big sizes and headlines. It is a lively and charming serif typeface with lots of fancy curves. It is a serif typeface that will shine in headlines and short pieces of text. It also works in smaller sizes, but it is not for the tiny text sizes. Alga started from an exploration of the thinner weight with this idea of a tall and elegant serif typeface with low contrast. Then it evolved to be a high contrast font in the bold weight. But always keeping its style and personality.

Dead Space is a science fiction/horror media franchise created by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, developed by Visceral Games, and published and owned by Electronic Arts. The franchise's chronology is not presented in a linear format; each installment in the Dead Space franchise is a continuation or addition to a continuing storyline, with sections of the storyline presented in prequels or sequels, sometimes presented in other media from the originating video game series, which includes two films and several comic books and novels. This font is related to the video game Death Space, I redrawn this font to make it a font with a minimum character set.

A bottle party is a party where you are supposed to bring whatever you wish you drink. When using my Bottle Party font, you need not bring anything at all! The font does all the partying itself - all you need to do is type, and the contextual alternates makes sure that your text doesn’t repeat the same letters over and over again! How is that? As I said, it happens automatically as you type, because the font cycles through the 4 different versions of each lower-case letter! The font is handmade with a brush feeling to it, legible at even very small sizes and it’s quite full of international characters!

Linotype Go Tekk is a part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest. The font was designed by the German artist Critzler and is available in three weights, thin, medium and black. Go Tekk is a cool, constructed with unusual cross strokes, appearing in almost every character at exactly the same height. The capital letters do not end on the baseline, rather drop even farther down than the descenders of the lower case letters, making it necessary to allow for generous line spacing. Linotype Go Tekk is a relatively static font designed exclusively for headlines and displays.

Punto is not made up of grid-based dots. They are optical corrected and there is always the same distance between the dots, with the aim to create more harmonic letterforms. The dots also vary gradually in size to reflect the thickening and thinning of strokes, giving the letterforms a sophisticated overall look. Punto comes up with 3 weights and 3 italics and is perfectly suited for logos, brands, magazines and special for signage systems and mobile devices. The language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European character sets, as well as Baltic and Turkish languages. Linotype Schachtelhalm is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The inspiration of German designer Ilka Kwiatkowski is not hard to figure out and the font carries the German name of the plant which was its model. The alphabet consists exclusively of capital letters with clear geometric basic forms. The font is meant for headlines in point sizes of 18 and larger. The details which make Linotype Schachtelhalm unique and true to its inspiration are however best seen in large point sizes, such as on posters, and Schachtelhalm is best combined with neutral fonts.

I was playing around with some brushes and ink, and out came Skulduggery. Use it for any project you can apply the term ‘skulduggery’ to. Or not. Whatever.

Samuel Welo offered the pattern for this font as a titling font for silent movies. Its rustic charm has held up well, some eighty years on. Both versions of this font support the Latin 1262, Central European 1250, Turkish 1254 and Baltic 1257 codepages.

A title card listing the supporting cast of the 1950 Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame drama “In a Lonely Place” provided the hand lettered slab serif type design that served as the model for Post Production JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions.

Heliotype was created by British artist Lee McAuley, who was inspired by Soviet Constructivist designs. Heliotype adds serifs to a sans serif model, allowing the characters to connect to one another. The strong, aggressive geometric appearance of Heliotype make it a great font for experimentation.

Originally called Bohemian in the 1918 specimen book of the Miller and Richard Type Foundry of London and Edinburgh, this Jugendstil typeface still retains its freshness and quaint charm. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

A Nick’s Fonts original, strongly influenced by the “futuristic” lettering styles of 1930s science fiction, most notably Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. A 1931 travel poster for Pommern, Germany, designed by Willy Dzubas provided the inspiration for this charming typeface. Sets tight, large or small.
