The term Sanseki (Japanese for Three [Brush] Traces) is used to describe three famous Heian period calligraphers: Yaseki, Gonseki and Saseki. Not that I would ever dream of comparing my messy brush-work with theirs, but the name stuck and I kind of liked it. I used Chinese ink and a high quality brush (which I got in a sale actually) to create this font. All glyphs were hand painted in one go! Sanseki is a very detailed brush font. Upper and lower case letters mingle and there’s even an alternate for every lower case glyph. Comes with an abundance of diacritics.

This face was recommended to me by Mark Solsburg, president of FontHaus. At first I was a bit reluctant to revive it, if for no other reason than Frederic Goudy’s admission that he created this design “in a moment of typographic weakness.” However, I put the sample that Mark sent me up on my bulletin board, and over a period of time, it grew on me. It finally got to the point that I had to recreate the face, and from the response that I’ve gotten, I’m glad I did! Uppercase only with numerals and punctuation.

Realgar is a generic and neutral typeface but with enough personality to be different, but not as much to be unfamiliar. The name refers to an ancient natural pigment, known for its vivid orange colour. It is a multipurpose typeface in an eclectic style that combines geometric and grotesque with some humanist touches. A one-time co-worker of mine sometimes used a fanciful inkpen-style script in display-lettering situations. I liked it a lot. "Phil," I says, "why not do the whole alphabet, maybe a few little dingbats, and I'll make a font." Well, one day he presented me with a stack of posterboard; he'd done some letters, all right -- hundreds of 'em. I managed to boil these down into a typeface called Treefrog, a name that seems to match its organic jumble, its tall x-height, its left- and right-leaning stems, its thick and thin strokes. Full release has many dingbats.

»AlphaOne« is my newest addition to the experimental Alpha-font-collection. I just had to do this one! It is based on Paul Renners fonts, but has got nothing to do with them, I just took the widths and some basic forms. No – or hardly no – optical corrections were made to the glyphs. I wanted the pure geometric forms to come to life. This was a lot of fun to design, I especially like the »Q« with the negative tail. I did make four weights, but nothing is normal with this font, so weight doesn’t really mean anything. Have fun!

This font was originally meant to be my last creation of 2022, but as it turned out, it was the first font of 2023 instead! Why? Well, because it took me a lot of time to complete the 150 different swahes letter combinations, the 182 different letters (not counting numbers, accented characters etc) the small caps, the subscript and the multilingual support! Anyway, it was worth the work - the Frequent font works great as a display font, or whatever you have in mind. Play around with the different versions (Regular, Solid and Inside) for great results.

I seem to be in my comic book font fase. It's not that I have tons of comics lying around (I actually have none), but when I was a kid, I used to read them all the time. Laser Eyes is a handmade comic book font. It is a little rounded, a little fat and very useful. You don't really have to put it to work in an actual comic book; it will feel at home just about anywhere. The family of Tipografia Maracatu was born in 2020 when we could not leave the house because of the coronavirus epidemic. I had no idea how it would turn out. I just wanted to draw letters. When I finished the regular version, I thought it looked a lot like the art and music from the Northeast of Brazil, and that is why I came up with the name Maracatu. Maracatu is a musical-style original from the Northeast of Brazil. After I had the font style and the Regular version, I thought it would be nice to have Bold and Light.

»Supra Mezzo« – designed by Gert Wiescher in 2012/13 – is an unusual addition to the Supra family, a weight in between the normal and the condensed width. This cut comes in very handy if you need to put lots of text into a relatively small space without loosing readability. The compactness with great legibility makes Supra Mezzo absolutely unique. The light and normal weights and the dominant x-height with its high ascenders make for easy reading of long copy. The heavy and x-light weights are great for elegant headlines. Supra is an OpenType family.

Ant Serif is a font that can be used for advertising, logo creation, webfonts and more. The font comes in two styles, Regular and Italic and has all the characters in the Latin Basic, Additional and Extended scripts. The font's design came from my love of Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp logo. The typeface used, which was custom, was of interest for me, so I decided to create it as a font. Some time ago, my son asked me to name all Seven Seas. I had to think for a bit, because I can think of more than 7 seas (the North Sea, the Caspian Sea, the South China Sea, the Sea Of Okhotsk, etc.), but apparently these are not part of the BIG Seven. It turns out that even oceans count as ‘seas’. Long story short, I created a font, had to think of my son’s question and named the font Seven Seas. Seven Seas is a hand made serif that comes with swashed alternatives for a lot of glyphs.

A chunky dressing may not sound very delicate, but I remember my grandmother used make a very chunky dressing for the mashed potatoes. I really loved it - actually I wish I had the recipe so that I could reproduce that particular consistency. Although traditional Heiti typefaces may not be as lively as Songti, the modesty of M Hei makes is enduring and stand out from other similar typefaces. M Hei’s design is based on the hallmarks of traditional Heiti typefaces: it has little to no thick-thin contrast in strokes and has square cut terminals. Its dots (點), ticks (剔) and downstrokes (撇、捺) are subtly curved and longer than usual; all stems (豎) and crossbars (橫) remain simple and clear; and hooks (勾) appear rounded. Together they make a harmonious form which is clean but pure, classy but contemporary.

Eurobia is a family of two typefaces - Regular and Plain. They are display faces with a strongly European feel and a strong flavour of the 1920s. My suggestion would be to use them for poster or banner work, or packaging or cover design, with the heading text set in Eurasia Regular and subsidiary text set in Eurobia plain. Why not give that European flavour to your next project? We see Eurobia as a fun typeface, for advertising products like confectionery or concerts. Weiss Modern Gothic is the first digital re-creation with a lot of improvements of a late seventies well-known edited typeface by Bauer. At the time known as Weiss Initials Extra Bold or Weiß Modern Gothik, the design was inspired by the famous Weiß Initialen N°2 drawn by Emil Rudolf Weiß (1875-1942); also father of the non-less famous "Neuland" typeface.
