An old brass stencil of the word 'large' was spotted for sale in an online auction. What set it apart from many other vintage stencil items was the beautiful, hand-punched Western letters with a diamond-shape center. Divina is a Latinized digitization of one of German calligraphy master Rudolph Koch's typefaces. The original typeface, Kurrent, was designed in 1927 and cut in 1935. Its shapes are a variant of the German script to be used as a model for writing in schools at the time. This is the first time Koch's rendition of this particular blackletter calligraphy was ever digitized.

Wyoming Pastad is the simplest of the Wyoming series. The round letter shapes of Wyoming Spaghetti have moved toward squareness. The overall effect is that Wyoming Pastad no longer looks much like an “Old West” face. There are two shadowed versions of WyomingPastad. The unusually-shaped hand lettering of Penny Wise JNL was modeled from the cover of the 1936 sheet music for "You Dropped Me Like a Red Hot Penny", and is available in both regular and oblique versions. A playful, casual take on round nib pen lettering was spotted amongst some online scans from an old lettering book. The free-form and stylized shapes of the letters and numbers are reminiscent of old-time show cards, movie titles and signage in vogue around the early 1900s through the 1920s. Closer Text is a narrower, more compact version of previously released Closer. Closer Text is a highly customizable Swiss grotesque with overclosed aperture. Featuring some humanistic shapes, Closer Text feels less bland though still relatively neutral. Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” (published in both 1927 and 1960) showcased this talented man’s hand-lettered alphabets; used as inspiration for the sign trade and for graphic designers. A particularly interesting slab serif from the 1960 edition has many unusual character shapes, and served as the model for Casual Slab Serif JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions.

This is a second edition of Deedee type family, originally designed in 2011. Deedee is a geometric sans serif typeface family of ten styles with extended support for most Latin languages plus Cyrillic. Revisions in this edition included minor adjustments to glyph shapes and improved kerning tables. The typeface is ideal for use in display sizes and is quite legible in the text.

An Art Deco “thick and thin” novelty type design based on the hexagon shape was found within the pages of “La Lettre Dans le Decor & La Publicite Modernes” - a 1930s-era French alphabet collection. In 2002, when it was finally possible to produce digital alphabets without technical limitations and compromises, and more than fifty years after the first sketches, an expansion and redesign of the Optima family was completed and released as Optima nova. Stadia is designed around a series of modular units: quartercircles, teardrop shapes, squares, circles and variations thereon. The versatility of these basic shapes is such that a teardrop, for example, can represent a looped bowl, as in the lower part of the a, while also representing a curved arc at the top of the same character. The strict grid is broken for the T and the Y, and the placement of accents. The alternative – basing a T, for example, across three units – though rational, is far less aesthetically pleasing. As always with type design, one has to know when the internal structural rules should be bent for a more beautiful result. The horizontal lines appear to travel through the letters, bursting into stars in the counters of lower-case characters such as the o and p. The outline version is weighted to the same width as the gaps between the units.
