La Paz is a typeface created to emulate handwriting. It consists of three different alphabets which are interleaved to provide variations in height, weight and inclination, typical of handwriting. In addition it has tens of ligatures, ornaments and opentype programming that help to recreate human gestures. Note is a fresh and dynamic hand writing font. Inspired by graffitti and street style writing, executed using a flat tip calligraphy pen. The typeface is hand drawn on paper, then the resulting alphabets and punctuation scanned in and rendered to create the font. The resulting characters are bold yet energetic with an obvious human touch creating an interesting and original hand drawn typeface.

In mid 2001, P22 was approached by a Daniel Garrison, a Classics scholar at Northwestern University about possibly digitizing a long lost "Garamond" typeface. This font was used by Johannes Herbst (a.k.a. Ioannes Oporinus) in 1543 to publish Andreas Vesalius' "On the Fabric of the Human Body" (De humani corporis fabrica) in Basel. The story of the development of this font takes a few twists and almost becomes forgotten itself over time.Forteen years later it is available to the public.

Argonautica is based on a relict of the future that was left on earth by time-travelling extra-terrestrials. In 1947, an UFO crashed in the New Mexico desert. There were unknown glyphs found on the spaceship which couldn�t be deciphered to date. Based on one of the unknown glyphs, Gabriele Lindemann developed a complete alphabet readable for human beings. Argonautica is particularly suited for colored typography and can be read much better with growing distance.

Medieval Times is a digital revival of an illuminated alphabet dating back to a text from the medieval period. Each letter is made up of several different human or mythological animal figures engaged in activities that reflect the beliefs and myths of that enchanted era. Some examples of the beings that you will find in this font are: griffins, dragons, chimeras, lions, gargoyles, unknown mythical winged creatures, peasants, priests, saints, and warriors battling with spears. This typeface is an attempt to offer as a font the well known marvelous Hans Holbein “Death Alphabet”, first published in 1523. We have tried to preserve as much as possible the spirit and appearance of the original Initials set — incredibly fine and enriched with detailed figures — trying at the same time to create a font not too complex to be usable. Neverteless, the font files are large, and when used, the decorated initials may appear on screen more slowly than ordinary characters. (Minimum size recommended : 96 pts) We are offering here two complete standard sets (no accented characters) : Initials and capitals. We have reconstructed the missing letters : J and U, Eth, Lslash, Thorn and Oslash. The font may be used with all our Humane and Garalde fonts, like 1543 Humane Jenson or 1592 GLC Garamond and others from the GLC foundry catalog.

A complete figurative alphabet was published by one Peter Flotner (ca. 1485-1546) in 1534. In Flotner’s alphabet, naked or nearly-naked figures are posed singly or disposed in pairs to form the various letters. Unlike de Grassi’s alphabet, we find only human figures here, no other animals. And unlike Tory’s illustrations, these letters seem an end in themselves, rather than the means of demonstrating a design strategy. Flotner’s alphabet was imitated by other engravers. The letters G and N are reproduced from an alphabet published by one Martin Weygel in Bavaria in 1560. Peter Flötner , c.1485-1546, German medalist and artisan, possibly Swiss by birth. He was active in decorative sculpture, wood carving, and other crafts, making medals and plaques and furnishing designs of classical motifs for silversmiths. He was in Nuremberg by 1522 and did most of his work there, although he made two trips to Italy. Flötner is now regarded as a pioneer of the German Renaissance. His Kunstbuch was published in 1549. In the Metropolitan Museum are five of his bronze plaques illustrating biblical episodes. Motorix is a typeface of alternatives. A versatile and highly flavorful constructivist design in three weights with corresponding italics, and hundreds of variant forms. Motorix’ interchangeable letterforms yield a multitude of combinations that elicit electronic rhythms and at times take on humanistic forms. The name Motorix is a pseudo-feminized variant (the ‘-ix’ suffix being derived from ‘-trix’) of the German word ‘motorik’, which refers to both electronic music and human motor skills. The typeface lives up to its energetic name, synthesizing precise rhythms and alphabetic waveforms into a uniquely upbeat and spunky typeface.

This set of initial letters is an entirely original creation, inspired by French renaissance patterns used by Bordeaux printers circa 1580-1590. Japanese swallows have adapted to nesting in and around human habitation from ancient time. Propaganda in a poodle skirt? Another gem gleaned from Schrifti Alphabeti, a book of Cyrillic alphabets published in Kiev (now Ukraine, then USSR) in 1979. Flouncy, bouncy, perky and quirky, this typeface will add sass and charm to any project it graces. Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

The idea for Gilman started simple enough, a serif typeface that works well for large amounts of text. However, after many struggles creating a quality typeface digitally, I decided to first draw the complete alphabet by hand on paper, and then trace that digitally. The result is a unique workhorse typeface with a subtle “human touch” that is very rare in this modern technological age. Gilman has extensive language support and comes with many opentype features like true small caps, tabular lining figures, stylistic alternates, ligatures and more. Gilman Sans (derived from the serif) is an excellent compliment and works together harmoniously with Gilman on the page.

QRc is based on a 2-D, space-saving optical code widely used in Japan. The code was originally intended for use in factories but quickly crossed into the consumer sector. There's something satisfying about tweaking to perfection a typeface based on the particular style of lettering applied to a particular kind of paper by a particular human hand. One day, in pursuit of this curious sense of satisfaction, I sat down with a porous pad of lined note paper and printed out the alphabet with a ballpoint pen. I found particularly interesting the bulbous ends of the strokes where the ink soaked in. I couldn't help myself: I drew out the rest of the character set, scanned, hand-traced, and -- as with all 3IP font designs -- manipulated every glyph to an obsessive degree. Named it Cedar Street, after a favorite address of mine. Full release has a single medium weight with a thorough character set.
