I was inspired by old posters and commercials for old 8-bit computers from the late 70-ies and 80-ies. Despite the lack of powers (compared to computers and phones today) they seemed to be able to both rule the world and ease your everyday jobs. Well, the thought of all that, combined with my love for grafitti and comic text, inspired me to do this font!

Better Phoenix is a polished brush font, with 400+ glyphs, including small caps, contextual and stylistic alternates, swashes, and ligatures. It was carefully constructed from handmade brush strokes to have smooth lines and clean structure, but keep the playfulness of a handmade script font. Nubian was one of the first typefaces ever designed by G-Type and is an elegantly proportioned, crisply modern sans serif family. Nubian has a noticeably open, semi extended appearance providing very even 'colour' and excellent legibility when set as text. Initially inspired by an untitled typeface from an old hand-lettering book, Berber has been extensively developed over two incarnations to function as a very strong and confident sans. The 2011 Berber revisions have enabled Berber to be used across longer settings as well as its more conventional use on larger applications such as signage. Berber was used as the text face for issue 46 of Eye, the graphic design journal. The typeface now features both king caps and small caps. Extensive additions to the numerals sets and complete opentype sets of international diacritics also extend its usage.

Stencils have played a number of roles over the years, from decorative patterns to military markings; from labeling shipping containers to a student’s school project. One unusual application of a stencil alphabet was some metal letters spotted for sale at an online auction site. These antique letters were used for promoting the current show on a theater marquee just as plastic ones are used nowadays. Following the auction images as a guide, the Roman stencil font from those marquee letters is now preserved digitally as Talent Stencil JNL; which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

This family was inspired by the set of fonts used in the end of 1800s by the famous J. H. Geiger, printer in Lahr (Germany), especially these used to print an almanac for the year 1883. It is a Fraktur pattern, with two styles, as a few others incomplete fonts also used for this work were Blackletters from other patterns. Both were used in two size, for titles, subtitles, main text and notes. This font contains standard ligatures and German historical ligatures (German double s, long s, tz, ch, ck...) and diacritics. 1543 German Deluxe Initials may be used in complement this family.

Originally designed by Alois Ganslmeier as a Billboard-Font, the Coma Font was later developed into a complete typeset with capitals and small letters, Cyrillic letters, Greek letters and Hebrew letters by Andy Jörder and Jörg Herz. The Coma Font is a massive constructed font which can be used for headlines. When only typed in capitals it gives the impression of blocks for there are no ascenders or descenders. The font comes alive because of its massive appearance, its edgy form and the opulence impression when used line-by-line. Not without reason, the font is named “dick und eckig”.

Stiana font is a venetian serif in modern design. The general idea was inspired by beautiful masterpieces of Nicolas Jensen and William Morris. Stiana holds fine, balanced readability of venetian serif, and both 21st century trends. Letterforms are expressive and bold enough to use font as display, but it also fits nicely for text. Stiana supports Western Europe, Cyrillic and Greek languages. Stiana is surely a good choice both for screen applications and print media. The Mailart Rubberstamp font was inspired by rubberstamped envelopes and artworks by Mailartists Jonathan Stangroom, H. R. Fricker and Flea Art, and the typeface Clarendon Condensed. Mailart Rubberstamp now has an additional Bold weight and complimentary Obliques. The typeface has also been updated with subtle outline improvements, a bigger repertoire of European accented characters, and more consistent, slightly tighter spacing; increase the tracking to recreate the more relaxed, rustic appearance of the earlier version. The fonts are derived from the individually rubber-stamped letters on printed and collaged envelopes received from mailartists, and the typeface Clarendon Condensed.

The Bitstream version of Letter Gothic designed by Roger Robertson in 1956-62 for IBM electric typewriter. It is a condensed, monospaced font resembling a typewriter face, suitable for tabular material. Primarily used for slide presentations and for word processing applications, Letter Gothic is very helpful for printing out software source listing, for informal office communications and for tabular charts where alignment of columns is important. Besides, being a clear and easy-to-read font, Letter Gothic is popular now for display and advertising matters. Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType in 2000 by Gayaneh Bagdasaryan.

The gifted Hungarian punch-cutter and printer Miklós Kis was active in Amsterdam in the 1680s. Among the many fonts that he cut during those years were a ‘mediaen’ (pica-sized) roman and italic, and the digital Miklós fonts are an interpretation of these ‘mediaen’ types. The character set has been extended to cover all the European languages that use the Latin alphabet, and the fonts offer OpenType features such as small capitals; old-style and lining figures, both proportional and tabular; fractions; superior and inferior numbers; superior alphabet; contextual and stylistic alternates; and intelligent application of long ‘s’.

Jobst Gutknecht was a highly successful printer in the city of Nuremburg from 1514 to 1542. He published the "Achtliederbuch" (the first Lutheran hymnal, with a whole 4 tunes) and many works by Martin Luther. This font is an accurate "recutting" of the font face Gutknecht used for the body text in his printed works. It has been extended to over 900 glyphs adding hundreds for modern use. It also presents many ancient things like old ligatures such as "tz", a hedera, and alternate style pilcrow for visual interest. And for those conservative types the modern lower case "k" is also available.

The late 70s and early 80s is sometimes considered to be the period when headline typography went off the rails. Growing up in that period, some designers may beg to differ. Many geometric designs were available in dry-transfer and for the typositor, and were used everywhere a youth-culture look was appropriate - annuals, comics, club flyers, high-street boutiques, TV-advertised compila tion albums. Nightclubber is a fond homage to the excesses of the period, and should be used back-lit in pink neon or at a rakish 45 degree slant across a blurred photograph of a glitter ball.

ITC Peter's Miro is the work of New York designer John Peter. It was inspired by the letters used by Joan Miro in his paintings. No one used letterforms more frequently in his work than Joan Miro," says Peter. For his typeface, however, "considerable liberty has been taken with his [Miro's] original letters and missing characters have been added." The letters are a simple script, irregularly and almost crudely written, but bursting with energy. To give designers free rein with their creativity, Peter designed two complete versions of the alphabet in both upper- and lowercase, Peter's Miro and Peter's Miro Too."

We just had the Eurovision Song Contest here in Holland. I quite like to watch it, as it is usually a freak show of kitsch, political incorrectness and often really bad music. But it is a laugh and this year was no different. It inspired me to create this particular font with this particular name. Sing Along is a happy, wobbly, kitschy font that comes with a bit of ‘over-the-topness’, a few personality issues and an unsteady gait. Needless to say, it is politically incorrect, but that, my friends, is not necessarily a bad thing.

In the wake of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution there was a desire for a clear classical blackletter font without frills. That is why in 1793 the famous printer and editor Johann Friedrich Unger and his partner Johann Christian Gubitz accomplished their own fraktur.
