The combination of regular crossbars (橫) and stems (豎), rounded hooks (勾) and angles (折), as well as dots (點), ticks (剔) and downstrokes (撇、捺) that are ended sharply, makes it a classy but contemporary, clean and affectionate typeface. This font takes its name and the overall shape from modern bentwood furniture, namely Scandinavian designs since the 1940s. I set out to create a solid, bold, strong, rugged font, one that would lend itself to any industrial type of use, and by that I mean industry in general, but probably sectors that would still be considered male preserves such as carpentry or metalwork. I thought specifically of mortice & tenon joints, whilst toying with shape and form for this self imposed challenge. I was also visualizing a router tool used for producing most wood joints nowadays. I think the general premise worked out well; in the end I settled on the name Mortice, referring to the slots or negative spaces that the matching part, or tenon would fit into.

My family and I recently bought a fixer-upper farm from the 1930 and I have been renovating and building for the last three+ months. I have a lot on my mind (as you can imagine), so I write little notes to keep track of what I need to do. Of course, since I’m often in the middle of something that needs to be done NOW, these notes are kind of messy. I just finished the bathroom and toilet upstairs, so I could actually finish a new font! Scribble Note is an ode to all those messy notes I wrote. Comes with a cool Doodle pack as well!

Linotype Go Tekk is a part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contest. The font was designed by the German artist Critzler and is available in three weights, thin, medium and black. Nylon is an interpretation of pre-16th century letterforms, in particular those found in mediaeval portraits at the National Gallery, London. The source material contains many unusual and manic shapes—it appears as if these classical forms have, over time, become perverted, almost demonic.
