Thorowgood was originally released by the Stephenson Blake typefoundry in the UK. The types were first cut by the English typefounder Robert Thorne, predecessor of William Thorowgood, and first shown in his specimen books in the early nineteenth century. The fat face was revived in roman (1953) and italic. The S and the C appear to be smaller than the other capitals. Most serifs are flat and thin horizontals. In the italic the main strokes of h, k, m, n, and r are curved inwards at the foot.

My motivation for designing the Lalibela family (which is based on Bodoni) was to pay homage to Ethiopic script. The script has been around for about 3 000 years, but I took artistic licence to deviate from the original model and add personal touches. I chose Bodoni as a historical model because of its display value and not its text size use because the extreme contrast made it difficult to read at small sizes. A Modern typeface characterized by consistently horizontal stress, flat and un-bracketed serifs, and a high contrast between thin and thick strokes, were the final step in typography two-hundred-year journey away from calligraphy. The austerity, simplicity and greater contrast style was perfected.Contrary to all the refinements in Bodoni, I have revisited calligraphy with the font Lalibela that mimics Ethiopic Script. It was drawn with a much larger x height and less geometric than Bodoni for its primary use as a display font. For example, a lot of italic serifs were added to the roman face as well as 16 additional ligatures to obtain more a feel of calligraphy. I made the serifs thicker and bracket one side with straight steps obtaining a reduced contrast to withstand breaking up at smaller sizes.An additional variant, "Lalibela Alternate" was designed to provide an interesting mixing possibilities with the Bold face for more expressive headlines.

ITC Drycut is the work of Vancouver-based designer Serge Pichii and gives a twist to the tradition of heavy, woodcut-like typefaces. The font includes all the realistic features of a true woodcut, sharp edges, white cut marks and black slivers. The slivers around the edges suggest traces left after awkward movements of a knife, which are often visible on old woodcuts...Folk artists often didn't care much about refining their carvings and the slivers would have been left as long as the letters remained readable." The lower case alphabet is actually small caps proportioned to match the capitals. The letters of ITC Drycut have a slight slant to the right which lends the font a dynamic character."

There are thousands of pieces of vintage sheet music available for collectors and curiosity seekers. Prior to the 1930s, a large percentage of them had wonderfully hand-lettered titles on the covers, but gradually there was a shift by music publishers to utilizing metal type for the bulk of their output. Normally set in an all-caps format, certain type faces reappeared in growing frequency and familiarity. Composer JNL is one such example of a “workhorse” font, and has been re-drawn and reinterpreted by Jeff Levine Fonts in both regular and oblique versions. It is based on the design "Glamour", released by Lanston Monotype in 1948; which in turn was based on "Corvinus", designed by Imre Reiner.

LoveDuets is a family of two novelty fonts that have letters on hearts. There are at least five other font families on myfonts that have have letters on hearts but LoveDuets differs from them because it uses the OpenType feature of Contextual Alternatives (calt) to put two letters on each heart, one on the left side and a second on the right side. The two styles in the family can be used in layers to increase color possibilities. The brace characters have empty half hearts that can be used to replace spaces or to complete hearts at ends of lines. American Uncial™ was designed by Victor Hammer in 1943. Uncial typefaces consist of letter forms of the Capitalis Monumentalis and the majescule cursive. The origins of Uncial faces date back to the 5th century. In 1953, American Uncial was expanded to include some new figures, also designed by Hammer, and was rereleased by Klingspor with the name Neue Hammer Unziale. The forms are based on old scripts in books of antiquity and the early Middle Ages and the font is a new variation of a classic. Annonce is a digitization and expansion of a 1912 Johannes Wagner Foundry classic called Aurora Grotesk, which also circulated later on in metal under the name Annonce. ITC New Baskerville is one of many contemporary type families based on the work of John Baskerville (1706-1775), a writing master and printer from Birmingham, England, whose types were cut by the punchcutter John Handy. Baskerville produced a masterpiece folio Bible for Cambridge University, and today, his types are considered to be fine representations of eighteenth-century rationalism and neoclassicism. The first Clarendon was introduced in 1845 by R. Besley & Co, The Fan Street Foundry, as a general purpose bold for use in conjunction with other faces in works such as dictionaries. In some respects, Clarendon can be regarded as a refined version of the Egyptian style and as such can be used for text settings, although headline and display work is more usual.

This distinctive titling face is based on Elegant Lichte, designed by Hans Möhring for D. Stempel in 1928, with the helpful addition of a lowercase not found in the original. It functions equally well as either a period piece or a contemporary masterpiece. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as wellas localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

Agafia handwriting script is based on the hand of Agafia Karpovna Lykova - the last member of the Old Believer family lived like an hermit in the Khakass taiga. Yardbird, insinuating prison numerals, was lifted from a wooden block print poster press, that would have indeed besides providing dates for the local carnival would have just as easily ink-chucked them over the backs of those denim blues. Part of Market LTD, a collection of limited faces, mostly alpha-numeric and some just plain numeric, used primarily in retail and display situations and titling.

Here's a faithful rendering of the slightly quirky, but thoroughly yeomanlike headline face Basuto, designed by Stanley Baxter and released by the Stephenson Blake Type Foundry in 1927. Bold, brassy and a little sassy, this one will perk up your headlines fer sure. Although less prevalent today, a cover charge was added to better class night clubs of the 1930s and 1940s to discourage patronage by people of questionable social graces. The general idea was that the lower strata of society (meaning the "average Joe" or "hoi polloi") would balk at paying an extra fee just for entrance to a place of good entertainment and fine dining.

Diogenes is an elegant and crisp text typeface. While the skeletons of the individual characters are distinct and strong, the serifs are fine and sharp. This is especially true for the capitals with their comparatively strong horizontal strokes.
