Inspired by the most common grotesque heights and boxed sans serif typefaces, Luzern Typefaces was built with low-mid contrast sans serif and was designed in quite tall caps height and lower x-height which represents the flavor of the dynamic typefaces and is subtle for the display typefaces. Raniscript started out as an idea for a bold and strongly structured ronde style script with some contemporary touches. As I tinkered with various forms it took on a life of its own. Having an old world feel, it makes me visualize faded shop signs from India written in English. The name comes from a series of colorful vintage matchbook designs advertising the Flying Rani. You'll find Raniscript ideal for packaging, book titles, brochures or anything requiring a robust display treatment. It comes fully loaded for OpenType savvy applications. Three full sets of caps are included. By clicking the Titling button in Illustrator you can type using an all caps set that includes ligatures, case sensitive punctuation and language coverage. Waite Park JNL is based on the smallest of the die-cut letters and numbers contained in the Webway Sign Cabinet - once manufactured by the Holes-Webway Company of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The largest of the set's sizes (2 inch) was the model for Sign Kit JNL, the medium size (1-1/8 inch) was used to make Sign Production JNL and this font is a version from the 3/4 inch size. Each size of alphabet and numerals have their own unique characteristics, although they all follow the same basic font style, which is reminiscent of classic Art Deco-era sanserif typefaces. The name Waite Park JNL was derived from a division of Holes-Webway that (for some reason lost to time) distributed their sign kits under the name Waite Park Sign Company, located in the Minnesota city of the same name.

The old Norse legend of Thorben Odinson is a cautionary tale. And this typeface, like the nebulous kingdom he ruled, is something of a cloudy concoction. Thorben the typeface is something of an inspiration-hybrid, pulling aspects from multiple sources and combining them into a typeface that strangely seems to work (or not – depending on your point of view). What started as a redrawing of some old carvings (on a castle wall in deepest, darkest Suffolk), is now something entirely different. Part Nouveau curves and Celtic script, topped with a few sprinkles of modernism, darkness and some quirky ideas – Thorben absorbs it all, creating a display face that feels antiquated and current at the same time. At home we have a wood stove. Last year, I bought a whole bunch of tree trunks, which I cut up with a chainsaw and then chopped with my Swedish axe. In Holland we have a saying that firewood keeps you warm three times: when you cut the tree, when you chop the wood and when you burn it in the stove. Our stove is rather small, so it is not exactly a blazing furnace, but I liked the name because it seems to fit this font. Blazing Furnace was made with ink and a brush. It is a bit messy and rough, but it comes with multilingual support and a nice set of alternates for the lower case letters.

My youngest son Boris has his birthday in a week. He turns 8, and he loves to play with those Danish building blocks - you know what I’m talking about. I am now watching the movies with him and it is fun to witness his enthusiasm. The only drawback is the fact that we now seem to have a Chewbacca in our home… Meowtant Kittens is a font I drew with a fineliner and then digitised. Of course the name was influenced by the movies I am watching with Boris, even though they don’t feature any Meowtant Kittens.

New for 2020 Bodoni Ornamental now has two italics to choose from, one basic italic and a second which is more of a true italic with a few uppercase letters that have been stylized. Only one italic can be style linked to the regular upright version so in the second italic we've added Avanti to the name which means forward in Italian. When purchasing the regular upright and Avanti italic together they will install as two separate families. Bodoni Ornamental is a revival of a very old typeface based on the Poster Bodoni letter shape. Giambattista Bodoni passed away in 1813, this decorative version was created in the 1820’s or 1830’s which was the time period when many of these ultra bold decorated type faces began to appear, the original artist is currently unknown. The original version of this ornate classic was only available as a set of uppercase letters, today over one hundred eighty years later this font is now complete with a new lowercase, numbers and accented characters for Eastern, Central and Western European countries. Due to the ornate detail in Bodoni Ornamental when printing itís recommended to use a laser printer 600dpi or greater, a 1200dpi printer will give you the best results rendering the most detail at the smallest possible point size for this font. Small home user Ink Jet printers are not recommended for Bodoni Ornamental unless you set the font to a very large point size. With Ink Jet printers much of the detail in the letters will bleed together as the ink hits the page, commercial Ink Jet printers such as GiclÈe printers may give good results. When using Bodoni Ornamental for digital images including web site graphics it may help to add a one pixel stroke fill around the letters setting color to white or grey, this may help the web site images display better on some computer's. You will need a photo editing application such as Adobe Photoshop to create your image adding the stroke fill and save as a jpg , png or gif file. I hope you enjoy this old font as much as I did making it. Note: When previewing the Bodoni Ornamental font in the Windows font preview you may notice some letters appearing lighter and some darker, this is a problem with the preview window and some ornate fonts, Bodoni Ornamental will print normal and not with mixed light and dark letters.

The vast resource of hand lettered vintage sheet music titles offers many interesting and unique variations on even the simplest styles of lettering. A simple thick-and-thin serif design circa the 1920s-1930s evokes a reminiscence of the Art Nouveau period combined with a touch of what was to come during the Art Deco era. I‘d like to introduce “Charlonka“ to you. When my daughter finished high school, she wanted to get rid of her entire school stuff. So I saved a few sheets of her beautiful handwriting and promised her to create a typeface out of it. That‘s how the idea of Charlonka was born, a typeface family out of Charlotte‘s handwriting (by the way: that‘s her name). Some characters of Charlonka have extended crossbars, like in upper case A or H, and reduced descenders, like in lower case g or y.

Mimeograph Lettering JNL is based on one of the numerous plastic lettering templates once manufactured by the A.B. Dick Company of Chicago and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The mimeograph utilized a porous drum which inked the backside of a waxed stencil sheet. Unlike traditional stencils which have cut out areas that are directly inked or painted, a mimeo stencil has the area to be printed scratched away by removing the wax coating with a stylus. The resulting image allows the ink from the drum to seep through the sheet and transfer to the blank paper. As with a companion font (Mimeograph Template JNL), the character shapes follow the routed letters of the template, complete with rounded terminals. A previous font release [designed with flat terminals and some alternate characters] is available as Interoffice Memo JNL.

Some time ago I bought my smallest book ever: Kate Greenaway’s Alphabet* 57 x 72 mm. I thought it was the sweetest little book I had ever seen. Not knowing about the fame of the designer Kate Greenaway (1846-1901), I put it in some dark drawer and looked at it from time to time. Kate’s books were all outstanding successes in English publishing history; she was an icon of the Victorian era. Some of those books are still being reprinted today. This little gem I had accidentally acquired has become very rare and I have not found any reprints yet. So I thought maybe I could adapt her drawings for use on today’s computers. I ventured to redraw her delicate illustrations, blowing them up 300 percent, being forced to simplify them without losing her touch. It took quite some time! While redrawing them, I discovered that she most certainly drew them in at least three different sessions as well. Then I scanned my drawings and put them in a font. To make the font more usable, I added the ten numerals in Kate’s style; the original does not have those. I hope she would have liked my adaptations.
