In addition to the plain style, the family has shadowed, cracked, and two rough or dimpled versions. It was inspired by a sign on a smoke house in Gustavus, Alaska. The SmokeHausShadowInside style was developed to be used in layers with SmokeHausShadow. It allows lettering with two colors. Also, SmokeHausCracked can be used in a layer above SmokeHaus.

Within the pages of the April 16, 1938 issue of Liberty Magazine was found a hand lettered condensed typeface with a fun attitude that’s perfect for casual and informal titling. Because the art of lettering allows for taking liberties with letterforms, and as this came from Liberty Magazine as an inspiration source, it was only fitting that the typeface would be named Taking Liberties JNL. It is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sign and Display JNL is a long-overdue companion font to 2009’s Sign and Poster JNL. The original design models were Art Deco influenced die-cut cardboard letters and numbers manufactured by the Duro Decal Company of Chicago. Square in shape with rounded corners, the thick cardboard letters were used for making show-cards and other display signage. Subsequently, Duro used the same style of lettering to manufacture water-applied decals for boat identification and other uses. “More is better” may have been the motto of Richard Austin of Austin and Son’s Imperial Letter-Foundry on Worship Street at Finsbury Square in London when he designed and cut his Antique typeface. The year it was created is uncertain, but it is known to have appeared in a specimen book produced in 1827. At first glance, the upper case letters of Austin Antique look very much like Figgins Antique. But, upon examination, one will note that the Austin face is much darker. In general, the letters designed and cut by Richard Austin have fatter strokes, larger serifs and smaller counters -- more metal and less daylight. The premise was that the darker the letter, the more attention an ad using the typeface would receive. In old pictures of London and Paris one may see walls crowded with posters and “bills” -- competing for the attention of the passerby. Morris and Updike aside, the early nineteenth century marked the beginning of a commercial as well as industrial revolution. Patterns of commerce were changing. With new methods of marketing came the need for new typefaces to support the new methods. Foundries found the display types were very profitable and competed most energetically and creatively for the trade. There was a lot of trial-and-error. Some ideas faded away. Others, like the Antiques or Egyptians, were refined and developed. From them came the Clarendons that were to prove both popular and long lasting -- because they worked. Their job was to sell goods, not please the aesthetic sensibilities of the critics. They did their job well. Austin Antique has a full Western European character set, plus the following ligatures: ct, st, fi, fl, ff, ffi and ffl. Tabular numbers. Surprisingly readable.

An Art Deco geometric alphabet found within the pages of the 1939 French lettering book "Modèles de lettres modernes par Georges Léculier" ("Models of Modern Letters by Georges Léculier") is the basis for French Geometric JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.

Murbia was written with a glimmer-pen which has left the letters with a grungy look. What's even better is that the font comes with loads of ligatures for both double letters/numbers and the most common letter combinations...just to make the font look more like real scribbled handwriting! You will need to use OpenType supporting applications to use the autoligatures.

VLNL TpDuro was designed by chef Martin Lorenz and Juanra ‘Wete’ Pastor. Its concept was inspired by an Albrecht Dürer design from 1525, which shows a system to construct a gothic lowercase letter. Following the logic of this lowercase construction, but not the traditional uppercase letters of regular fraktur (brokenscript) alphabets, some brand new upper case letters were designed. The 45 degree tilted square that forms the basis of the letters, is as square and hard as a cracker. And we love crackers. You can put cheese on them. The ‘pixel’ feeling of the downstroke was intensified by repeating the rotated square module as often as they could. All this resulted in a strong, dark typeface with a steady rhythm, with one foot in history and the other in modern times. It works well as a display typeface for short texts, headlines and logos. Music festivals and heavy metal bands should also pay attention. This is hard stuff.

“PGF-Trajanite” is a simple Roman typeface, with capital letters inspired on classical Trajan schemmas such regular square and circle, simple and double root five, early ideas based on the golden ratio, while lowercase have more organic but yet balanced proportions with short ascenders/descenders stems allowing more air to flow between textlines, both (capitals and lowercases) optically adjusted to deliver a better reading experience. Due to simple and universal look it result in versatile typeface perfectly suitable for branding, packaging, label design, UI Interface design.
