One of the examples in the 1916 publication “Baker’s Showcard Book” [an early 20th Century instructional book on sign lettering] was simply called “Plain Poster”. Somewhat Art Nouveau in style, but with many ‘nonconforming’ character shapes and widths, this novelty design is available digitally as Free Form Showcard JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

In the 1959 premiere season of “The Untouchables” (based on the book by Eliot Ness and Oscar Fraley) the opening title jumps off of the cover of the book and stretches out into tall, extremely condensed lettering. After Nightfall is a handmade fairytale font. It was called Bunting Nook first (after a spooky story of a black dog that haunts a town in Britain), but I figured it was a bit of a weird name, so I settled for After Nightfall. This font comes with some lovely swashes, which should be used sparingly. But that, of course, is entirely up to you.

JetJaneButton has letters on a design that looks like a computer button. Its letters are from JetJane Mono, a sans-serif monospaced font. The typeface contains characters that can add color to letters. There are two ways to do this. One uses layers and the other a combination of characters, some with zero width.
