Although geometric Sans Serifs have been in vogue for nearly a century, they have never been as ubiquitous. It is not improbable that the old adage would be phrased: “When in doubt, set it in geometric sans”, had it been composed today. Have we not had enough? We think, not. Postmodern times demand a variety of expressions. The vision behind Geometria was to revisit the perennial favorite to lend subtle individuality to its tried and true forms. Geometria stands out in the crowd of similar fonts thanks to its complicated nature. It combines dynamic elements with a certain degree of stability. A slightly higher waistline of the capitals contributes to their distinctive appearance. If the upper case refers to the American grotesques of the 19th century, the lower case tends toward the forms of the Renaissance in its proportions. Geometria is a typeface of clean shapes that is well-suited for continuous reading, and it sets remarkably well. At the same time, it can be friendly, even flirtatious. Its distinct personality combines seeming opposites. At times it may appear serious, at times playful. On occasion, it may be deliberate, other times dynamic. It could seem rigid, then elegant. It is a typeface that could be perceived either as cutting-edge, or as nostalgic. A careful and discerning typographer will bring out and emphasize those aspects of its multifaceted personality that are needed to solve the problem at hand. ITC Belter was designed by Andreu Balius in 1996. Out of a purposely limited form repertoire Balius created a constructed typeface with a cool and technical character. A distinguishing characteristic of this font is the cross at the ends of many strokes. The figures seem to be products of mass production, which heightens the mechanical feel of the font. Belter is meant for point sizes of 10 and larger in headlines and shorter texts and must be set with generous spacing.

Albemarle is a distinctive text font based on hand lettered text from the turn of the century. It's designed to work well at text sizes, but to have some of the flair and personality of a calligraphic font. The result is both attractive and readable and doesn't look much like any other text font. We've been working on expanding the Albemarle family so that it now includes not just Albemarle, but also three swash variations and a new italic version of the font.

I've had mixed feelings about Kabel; It is a brilliant headline font with a lot of character, but it's the characters I have problems with. The versions of all big foundries have the same flaws (in my opinion), especially lowecase a and s. So I finally went ahead and made an all new version. It is not Kabel, but very much like it. It has unique x-height, weight and width, and many individual characters are also different from the original.

Kalisha Script was built 570+ glyphs, with OpenType features and includes many beginning and ending swashes, numbers, punctuation, and it also supports other languages. Saffran is a project of Erasmo Ciufo and Alessio D’Ellena. Saffran is a clear sans-serif with big x-height, short ascenders and descenders, that works well both for headlines and main bodies of text. The objective of the design is to improve readability of small size texts, by clearing the junctions and enlightening the structure of each letter as a consequence. The broken junctions, inspired from the hebrew alphabet, turn into spiky endings that connect to the flat sides only under 7pt.

For this Byzantine Empire calligraphy font, I had to work for 2 weeks and 3-4 hours a day and search the internet. It made me very tired, but I finally finished it, and it was good. I made this font using my index finger and Chinese ink. I thought the ink would come off easily, but I can tell you: it doesn’t. I have been walking around with a black stained finger for a week now and I do get strange looks from people every so often… Fingerfood, of course, is hand made. It is a rather playful font - all caps, but lower and upper case differ and like to mingle. Comes with a full diacritics palette.

Road Picture JNL was modeled after the hand lettered title and credits for the 1940 Bob Hope-Bing Crosby semi-musical comedy “Road to Singapore”, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. On occasion, one type design's influence can result in a completely different end result. Take the hand lettering found on a 1920s piece of sheet music for the song "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". The simple sans with a few Art Nouveau-inspired characters started out as the basic design of Concierge JNL, but shortly after beginning the project, the lettering took on more of an Art Deco flavor. Add to this the many rounded-edge characters that have a bit of a techno look to it and the typeface takes on many different design characteristics.

Futuramano was the kind of typeface we scribbled in those old days, when I was an art-director in advertising agencies. We used it to simulate the headlines and the subheads, so the client could read what the copywriters had in mind. As Futura was the font of choice in those days (as it still is), our scribbled typeface looked much like Futura.
