Proto-Sinaitic (also referred to as Proto-Canaanite when found in Canaan, or Early Alphabetic) is found in a small corpus of c. 40 inscriptions and fragments, the vast majority from Serabit el-Khadim in the Sinai Peninsula, dating to the Middle Bronze Age. They are considered the earliest trace of alphabetic writing and the common ancestor of both the Ancient South Arabian script and the Phoenician alphabet, which led to many modern alphabets including the Greek alphabet. According to common theory, Canaanites or Hyksos who spoke a Canaanite language repurposed Egyptian hieroglyphs to construct a different script. The earliest Proto-Sinaitic inscriptions are mostly dated to between the mid-19th (early date) and the mid-16th (late date) century BC.

Loosely based on a hand lettered title found on vintage sheet music for the song "Hong Kong", the design for Kwun Tong JNL emulates the letters and numbers formed from pieces of bamboo stalk. Kwun Tong JNL is named for a locality in Hong Kong although (according to Wikipedia) "the Hong Kong Government is unitary and does not define cities and towns as subsidiary administrative units."

I’m not particularly fond of beans. I do eat them, but they’re not my idea of a delicacy… But this font has ‘fairy tale’ feeling to it, and I liked the name Beanstalker. Aegypti 7 is a digital revival of Font No.7 or Egyptian Narrow - a Soviet display face cast for hand composition. I settled on the 12pt version as a basis for my digital version, as larger sizes added too much contrast to an otherwise quite orderly slab serif. The Soviet Font No.7 itself was based on an older Semi-Egyptian narrow cut before the revolution.

Inspired by show card lettering and the more human side of art deco, I wanted this font to retain the casual unevenness of informal hand lettering. As decorative as the font looks, I do envision it being used for text more than display. Obviously not a workhorse, but rather a quirky niche font. I find it makes dense philosophic texts more friendly to read.
