Rufina was as tall and thin as a reed. Elegant but with that distance that well-defined forms seem to impose. Her voice, however, was sweeter, closer, and when she spoke her name, like a slow whisper, one felt like what she had come to say could be read in her image. Rufina's story can only be told through a detour because her origin does not coincide with her birth. Rufina was born on a Sunday afternoon while her father was drawing black letters on a white background, and her mother was trying to join those same letters to form words that could tell a story. But her origin goes much further back, and that is why she is pierced by a story that precedes her, even though it is not her own. Maybe her origin can be traced back to that autumn night in which that tall man with that distant demeanor ran into that woman with that sweet smile and elegant aspect. He looked at her in such a way that he was trapped by that gaze, even though they found no words to say to each other, and they stayed in silence. Somehow, some words leaked into that gaze because since that moment they were never apart again. Later, after they started talking, projects started coming up and then coexistence and arguments, routines and mismatches. But in that chaos of crossed words in their life together, something was stable through the silence of the gazes. In those gazes, the silent words sustained that indescribable love that they didn't even try to understand. And in one of those silences, Rufina appeared, when that man told that woman that he needed a text to try out his new font, and she saw him look at her with that same fascination of the first time, and she started to write something with those forms that he was giving her as a gift. Rufina was as tall and thin as a reed, wrote her mother when Rufina was born.

Tipperary was designed by Steve Matteson and named for a favorite 'single track' bike trail, Tipperary is a monoline Humanist Sans Serif typeface. GHEA Granshan is a super font family. It has 9 upright weights and their Italics. It supports Latin Pro, Armenian, Greek, Cyrillic, Bulgarian & Ukrainian alternatives alphabet systems. The weights from Regular to Bold and their Italics can be used as text fonts. The weights thinner than Regular and thicker than Bold can be used as Display fonts. While there can be similar handwriting styles out there, no two handwritings are exactly the same. I like to think that I have the same handwriting style as my father, but I had never seen him write with lowercase letters, only in all capitals, except when signing his name on something in cursive. I recently came across a letter my father had written long ago to a friend. It was returned to sender, yet he kept it intact. The letter primarily thanked his friend for his hospitality when my father unexpectedly dropped in for a visit while traveling. I was so taken by the handwriting, that I decided to make it into a font, not only to remember my father, but also to forever preserve his handwriting. Generous Hospitality not only taps into the character of the person the letter was written to, it also reflects the personality of my father. If you are looking for a masculine handwriting type style for your designs, I think this font could be a nice fit.

Front Desk is designed to be easily readable, its increased legibility coming from the slightly enlarged lower case letters (a greater x-height) which make it easy on the eye. Also it is slightly slanted (but a lot less than a normal italic angle) to give it a more informal and modern look than a perfectly upright font would be, which is also intended to contribute extra dynamism while reading. Five available weights give adequate variation, and there are some Condensed and Expanded varieties in the complete set. A primary feature of this font is that the serif bases and tops are not indented or concave, which gives clear straight edges to the serifs, and the removal of this complexity adds to the clean lines and crispness of the font. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions of a font on the same machine.

PF DaVinci Script Pro is based on DaVinci’s own handwriting. He is considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. This great Italian artist left us with a unique writing (used to write from right to left), which we attempted to decode and simplify with PF Da Vinci Script Pro. Many of these letters are free interpretations and do not stick to the original forms. This typeface comes in 2 different styles: Regular and a more informal style called Inked. The all new “Pro” version supports all European languages including Latin, Greek, Greek Polytonic and Cyrillic. It comes loaded with many stylistic alternates in all languages.

Arzachel is a humanistic sanserif with a big x-height and a specific organic look. Its design is scientifically sharp and efficient in small type sizes as well as rugged and dramatic in headlines. Arzachel’s essential feeling comes from several features: all the letters are slightly sloped, stem terminations are flared at the top, and the terminals in letters a, c, e, f… are widening with the inside parts completely flat. The stroke contrast is low in the regular weight while it increases in the black; finally the capitals have an inscriptional flavor. Despite being a sanserif (thus a product of recent typography) Arzachel’s roots stretch back to the Renaissance tradition: Olocco took inspiration from some of the early and rather weird types cut in Venice in the 15th century. Arzachel was conceived during Olocco’s MA in Reading to provide a companion for his Zenon for use in small type sizes. But instead of expanding the Zenon family with optical sizes, the designer decided on a sans with its own personality rather than a sanserif version of Zenon with chopped-off serifs.

The Cardea family of typefaces is the outcome of David Cabianca’s 2003–04 MA Typeface Design experience at the University of Reading. With Cardea, Cabianca intended to mix classical and modern characteristics, and in the process he created a typeface that “sparkles” on the page, with high contrast, luster and crisp edges. The result is a type with a muscular or sculptural feel much like the work of artists like Arne Quinze or Mark di Suvero. Cardea was designed to function as a text face. It features three weights each with accompanying italics, small caps and a variety of ligatures.

Kris is a powerful typeface based on humanistic minuscule with a touch of Uncial script. An alphabet with an unusual appearance. It is based on the paradigm of classical handwriting. Kris is handwritten with a broad nib pen and ordinary black ink. The somewhat fanciful shapes are created by lifting the pen randomly left and right. This causes unpredictable frayed edges that make the typeface exciting. It bursts with character and is very versatile. Kris is written by the Dutch calligraphy artist Corrie Smetsers. Corrie threw all basic characters in a plastic bag and René Verkaart built the typeface and created all remaining characters. “Most special about this project was collaborating with Corrie. She's an expert in handwriting and has developed writing systems for the educational sector for decades”, René says.

Herb is based on 16th century cursive broken scripts and printing types. Originally designed by Tim Ahrens in the MA Typeface Design course at the University of Reading, it was further refined and extended in 2010. The idea for Herb was to develop a typeface that has the positive properties of blackletter but does not evoke the same negative connotations – a type that has the complex, humane character of fraktur without looking conservative, aggressive or intolerant.

RyuGothic Family is a humanistic interpretation of the Hangul Gothic style. It delivers messages in a soft, calm tone that does not overpower. The narrow counter design of consonants in Hangul and the narrow counter of the Latin lowercase letters are connected to create a sense of structural unity between the two sets of characters. This enables you to read long lines and works well in a variety of media and situations. Each font includes: 2,350 Hangul syllables, the smallest unit for expressing modern Korean; Latin Basic; punctuation; symbols for Korean codepage. Cyrillic, Greek, and Kana alphabets were excluded. Besley Clarendon ML is our version of the Clarendon registered by Robert Besley and the Fann Street Foundry in 1845. Besley Clarendon ML represents a significant change from the slab-serif Antiques & Egyptians that had become so popular in the prior three decades. Like Caslon’s Ionic of 1844, it brackets the serifs and strongly differentiates between the thick and thin strokes. Besley Clarendon is also what today is considered a condensed face, as a comparison to the various contemporary Clarendons will show. Robert Besley’s Clarendon was so popular that many foundries quickly copied it, a fact that caused him to complain vigorously. The reason it was so widely copied is simple ó it was extremely useful. It provided the attention-getting boldness to highlight a word or phrase, yet at the same time was compact and easier to read than the fat faces and antiques of the period. It wasn't until sixty years later that the concept of a typeface family of different weights was developed with DeVinne and Cheltenham. Until then, Clarendon served as everyone’s all-purpose bold face. It can be used for ads, flyers, headers or even short text. Don't leave home without it. Besley Clarendon ML includes the following features: 1. Glyphs for the 1250 Central Europe, the 1252 Turkish and the 1257 Baltic Code Pages. Added glyphs to complete standard 1252 Western Europe Code Page. Special glyphs relocated and assigned Unicode codepoints, some in Private Use area. Total of 353 glyphs. 158 kerning pairs. 2. Arapix is a 12 pixel high multilingual Latin-Arabic pixel font with incredible capabilities. The Arapix is an almost traditional Naskh. It is elegant and easy to read even in very small sizes. It includes almost every feature you would expect from a high range Naskh font. Its humanistic look and feel fit perfectly to its Latin counterpart. Arapix was originally designed for a web project that didn't see the light a few years back. It started with the idea of fitting both Latin and Arabic into a 12 pixel vertical grid. The latin glyphs fit properly within the vertical limits, but when it came to the arabic glyphs, it proved to be more challenging. Arabic letters with lower diacritic dots like the (Yeh-fina) or letters with accents above like the (Alef-Hamza-above) need much more space than any Latin letter. Add to this the fact that accents needs to be positioned above and below the glyphs. It is technically impossible to fit a (Yeh-fina-kasratan) or a (Alef-Hamza-above-shadda-damma) into 12 pixels. Initially the accents were dropped and not included in the design. Although it seemed impossible at the start, Sylvain found a solution in the end, including as many contextual alternates and contextual kerning as needed to avoid every collision between letters and diacritics, letters and accents, and diacritics and accents. The contextual kerning was added to achieve an even letter and word spacing in longer text. Arapix is amazingly legible in small size on screen and in print. On the other hand, it also works perfectly as display titling font due to its unique and contemporary pixel approach. It can be used for screens with very low resolution as well as for high resolution screens and prints. The new Arapix comes with various new features and new glyphs including Persian and Urdu letters, stylistic set, old style figures, contextual kerning, contextual alternates and a few icons too. Cobbler is a friendly type family in six weights. With proportions of geometric type, Cobbler is a contemporary sans on the inside and an ultra soft display typeface on the outside. Not a single sharp corner and only a hand full of straights make Cobbler extra warm and huggable. In fact, the few straight horizontal lines give the typeface the stability of a workhorse while keeping the gooey playfulness that characterizes Cobbler so much. I became interested in designing Bodoni Classic because of a lazy graphic designer at Jacques Damase publishing house. He had to change a single letter on a bookcover about J. B. BODONI. The French call him Jean Baptiste instead of Giambattista! And that unknown graphic designer just took any old “J” from some newly cut Bodoni. All the new Bodoni cuts have square serifs, whereas the originals had rounded serifs and slightly concave feet. The single letter “J” with the squared off serif was for me like a road sign to start redesigning the entire Bodoni family. That’s exactly what I started in 1993 and a dozen years later I am finished. Okay, I am still adding new Bodoni Classics, but those are my personal additions. Upon its redesign as Neuzeit S in the 1960s, other developments in sans serif letter design were taken into account. Neuzeit S looks less geometric, and more gothic, or industrial. Akira Kobayashi, Linotype's Type Director, created the revised and updated Neuzeit Office in 2006. His greatest change was to retool the design to make its performance in text far more optimal. Additionally, he created companion oblique to help emphasize text. The other three families in the Office Alliance system include Metro Office, Times Europa Office and Trump Mediaeval Office.Some weights of the Neuzeit Office are availabla as soft rounded versions. Montague Script Bold is a beefed up version of the 2009 Type Directors Club Award winning Montague Script. The added weight makes it more ideal for display purposes like book titling, packaging, and headlines. Like the original award winning version, it features an energetic rhythm with loads of swashes and ligatures. Having its origin in fine sable brush lettering done on smooth vellum paper, both versions are ideal for greeting card and invitation text. BMX Radical is inspired by the titles of the cult 1980s BMX movie "Rad". The characters R, A and D were designed after this, with the rest of the character set being completely made up. The font is uppercase only, but with two different alphabets. In OpenType-capable applications, engaging contextual alternates will make the alphabets automatically switch between each other, meaning double letter combinations always contain two different glyphs to give the text a much more handmade feel.
