Pelegotic makes you think of Scandinavian pioneer design, with its functional letterforms and architectural look. It is also a very versatile typeface, and fits easily as headline type for a magazine, or as part of a graphic profile for a company. It looks simple, but that impression is deceptive; the letters are drawn with a flair and individuality that shows the hand of a master typographer. Pelegotic Regular is rather thin, and is useful for big type like signs. Veteran designer Bo Berndal has created Pelegotic: "Pelegotic is a sansserif inspired by the Art Deco of the 20's and the Swedish functional style of the 30's. The slightly condensed design is an attempt to find a somewhat more elegant lettershape than the usually rather technical expression of monoline typefaces", says Bo Berndal. Pelegotic comes in three weights, with roman and italic in each weight. It is an OpenType creation, for both PC and Mac.

This 12-font family employs several unique features including a 2-part Chisel set which allows for the look of stone incised lettering. Hedonic has just a hint of a slab serif and even that is used so sparingly that it almost feels like a sans serif font. Its design does appear to be painfully simple but there are many interesting features including a selection of weights, small caps with old style numerals and display weights that make it very useful. And legible. Old style numerals are included with the small caps and italics. Also for display purposes are two "Chisel" fonts. Used together, set one on top of the other, they create a stylish 3D effect—ideal for logos and headlines or anything that needs a strong graphic punch. Hedonic may not be as eccentric as many fonts out there, but overall it is clean and legible with a few extra flourishes to stand out from the crowd!

Multi is an extensive sans serif typeface family that consists of two subfamilies: Multi Text that comprises three weights (roman & italic) and Multi Display (seven weights, roman & italic). Vitality bursts forth from Multi. It has a distinctive ‘phrasing’ (in the musical sense), neither humanist nor glyphic, somewhere in between, exploring uncharted territory. Its design is pragmatic, yet not rigid, slightly tinged with tiny incised touches. This is clearly noticeable in Multi Display: the roman lowercase’s asymmetric stems are very softly tapered, with bevelled, sharp upstrokes. Furthermore, all weights consistently share these idiosyncrasies from Thin to Poster. With its lower contrast, wider proportions, shorter ascenders and descenders, Multi Text was purposely adjusted to meet all the requirements of a legible typeface for newspapers in paper and screen, as they were manually hinted. It also has a few new features, such as the outstrokes of the roman ‘l’ and the italic ‘a’, which bring a subtle calligraphic feel to the text flow.

This typeface has the most important ingredient of all: love. So it’s not surprising that the font is called El Amor. It is a reversed oblique all-caps headline font that consists of two styles, “Regular” and “Fill”. Feel free to experiment with them, together or alone. Write something with “Regular”, copy paste it to another layer and switch to “Fill”. Give it a little offset if you like or place it straight on top, both works fine. You can also use the “Fill”. style for body text, but do so at your own risk, spacing and kerning is optimized for the use with the “Regular” style, so be generous if the result looks not as even as text-font. Maybe you’ll discover the charm of a more dynamic spacing that fit perfectly with the vivid and crispy outlines. Unlike other display fonts CA El Amor features a huge character set covering most languages that you can write with a Latin alphabet.

Inspired by gestural graphic expressions –like paper cut-outs (découpes) and spontaneous handwriting– from the most diverse postmodern and contemporaneous artists of the design world, Découpe has been created specifically to be used in big sizes. A little bit irreverent and effervescent from time to time, this gestural sans serif family reveals its contrasts and asymmetrical shapes when it breaks through display functions. Johann Carl Ludwig Prillwitz, the German punch cutter and type founder, cut the first classic Didot letters even earlier than Walbaum. The earliest proof of so-called Prillwitz letters is dated 12 April 1790. Inspired by the big discoveries of archaeology and through the translations of classical authors, the bourgeoisie was enthused about the Greek and Roman ideal of aesthetics. The enthusiasm for the Greek and Roman experienced a revival and was also shared by Goethe and contemporaries. »Seeking the country of Greece with one’s soul«. All Literates who are considered nowadays as German Classics of that time kept coming back to the Greek topics, thinking of Schiller and Wieland. The works of Wieland were published in Leipzig by Göschen. Göschen used typefaces which had been produced by until then unknown punch cutter. This punch cutter from Jena created with these typefaces master works of classicist German typography. They can stand without any exaggeration on the same level as that of Didot and Bodoni. This unknown gentleman was known as Johann Carl Ludwig Prillwitz. Prillwitz published his typefaces on 12th April 1790 for the first time. This date is significant because this happened ten years before Walbaum. Prillwitz was an owner of a very successful foundry. When the last of his 7 children died shortly before reaching adulthood his hope of his works was destroyed, Prillwitz lost his will to live. He died six months later. His wife followed him shortly after. The typeface Prillwitz as a digital font was created in three optical styles (Normal, Book and Display). The typeface Prillwitz Press was created especially for a printing in small sizes for newspapers. »Prillwitz Press« combines aesthetic and functional attributes which make written text highly readable. It was originally designed for a newspaper with medium contrast to withstand harsh printing conditions. Its structure is quite narrow which makes this typeface ideal for body text and headlines where space is at premium. For the Normal – even more for the Book – a soft and reader-friendly outline was created through a so-called »Schmitz« and optimized in numerous test prints. The arris character and the common maximal stroke width contrast of the known classicist typefaces (Didot/Bodoni) were edited by the study of the original prints. This was also done in order to reach a very good readability in small type sizes. This typeface is perfectly suited to scientific and belletristic works. Accordingly it has three styles: Regular, Bold and Italic as Highlighting (1). The typeface Prillwitz is a complete new interpretation and continuing development of the conservated originals from 1790. They have been kept in the German Library in Leipzig. It was always given the priority to keep the strong roughness and at the same time optimizing the readability of this striking font. The type family has all important characters for an efficient and typographic high quality work. ----------- (1) Accentuation of particular words or word orders (e.g. proper names, terms etc.). Typographic means for Highlighting could be Italic, SmallCaps or semi-bold.

Georges Peignot designed the font Nicolas Cochin based on copper engravings of the 18th century and Charles Malin cut the typeface in 1912 for the Paris foundry Deberny & Peignot. The font is named after the French engraver Charles Nicolas Cochin (1715-1790) although its style had little to do with that of the copper artist. Nicholas Cochin is a freer variation of another Peignot font, Cochin, a bit more balanced and elegant.

Bitumen is a sticky, black, and highly viscous liquid form of petroleum. When I created this font, it reminded me a bit of asphalt, hence the name. Bitumen is a handmade font based on Schmallfette Grotesk by Walter Haettenschweiler and Haettenschweiler font. The font was made with a Japanese brush pen, hence the bold lines. I have no particular interest in Nålebinding (nor in knitting), but I needed a name with ‘stitch’ in it and this is what I found!
