The Typist SlabSerif is part of a big family, the Typist Family. The family consists of a monospaced, a SlabSerif and a SansSerif version. The idea behind this family originated from the research into the design of typewriter typestyles, which is also the reason why the monospaced version was released first. The Ahoura font family, designed by Naghi Naghashian, was developed considering specific research and analysis on Arabic characters and definition of their structure. This step was necessary after more than two hundred years of relative stagnation in Arabic font design. Born in the 70s Personal influences are unavoidable in type design and usually find their way through into finished fonts. At Fontsmith, one period in particular provides inspiration, according to FS Pimlico designer, Fernando Mello. “Jason and Phil have always known that I’m very into the visual language of the 70s. I know that Jason shares my love of the 70s and Phil will sometimes admit to being a fan, too. I think that’s the reason they were both so supportive in the development of this font. “And, of course, we all share an interest in good-humoured and intelligent design. We like to think it’s a Fontsmith characteristic.” Back from black FS Pimlico started in an unusual place: with a tubby, penguin-like lowercase “a” that Fernando Mello had been sketching. From “a” grew the rest of the alphabet – a bubbly, fat, friendly family with a brush-written quality that became FS Pimlico Black. The black weight certainly isn’t the normal starting point for creating a regular and bold weight, but Fernando pressed on, driven by a glut of influences: brush-writing; Letraset and early digital systems catalogues; the type of Herb Lubalin and Tony di Spigna; 70s clothes and vinyl; and 70s revival disco nights in London’s Pimlico and Vauxhall. Natural or flourished Not often do fonts come along that seem to span the ages. “Loyolliams” is my first designed Latin typeface which has special meanings and unforgettable memories for me. The font's name, Loyolliams, consists of two mixed syllables stand for two different names. The first syllable is derived from the name “Loyola” and the second syllable is derived from the last five letters of the name “Williams.” These two names are related to “Concordia University”—located in Montreal in Canada—where I studied at a short academic term and spent in a very special period of my life in the late 2005. This renowned Canadian academic institution was created following the 1974 merger of “Loyola College” (1896) and “Sir George Williams University” (1926). This conglomeration formed “Concordia University” and the name Concordia itself was taken from the motto of the city of Montreal, Concordia salus (meaning ‘well-being through harmony’). This font comes in two different weights; light and regular. “Loyolliams” is a square, geometric, techno, and modern font. It is suitable for T-shirts, books' covers, websites’ addresses, advertisement light boards, and titles in technical, artistic, and other types of magazines and signboards. “Loyolliams” can be used also in posters, surfaces of electrical and electronic tools, digital devices and chips, geometrical machines, trucks, tractors, calculators, mobile phones, watches, laptops, personal computers, power equipments, digital cameras, technical magazines, and other digital and electronic tools. "Berganza" is a typeface designed as a tribute to the spanish century called "Siglo de Oro". Embellished with several ornaments and swashes, it quickly reminds an age in which castilian arts & letters were flourished, as well as the fantasy knighty fables adventures of heroes, loved ladies and evil villains. Although the Siglo de Oro cannot be set in specific dates, it is generally considered to have lasted more than a century; between 1492, the year of the discovery of America and 1681, the year in which the writer Pedro Calderón dela Barca died. Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo, or even William Shakespeare (in England) are also famous figures of this time. Berganza typeface takes its name from the main character of the picaresque novel "The Conversation of the Dogs" (Cervantes, 1613). Berganza is able to speak with the other dog Scipio on a big number of social & philosophical topics. Talking about technics, Berganza is a modern typeface but with a humanist flavour. Thanks to its various styles and flourishes, it immediately refers to the culteranism aesthetic of that time, whose aim was to elevate the noble over the vulgar. But also, Berganza takes advantage of the contemporary technology, highlighting in his drawing the contrasted forms and certain broken and unusual strokes in order to give it a brave and different style touch. I've always been in love with fat didones. That’s the reason of Posh. In search of something unique, I started this family back in 2013 with the aim of creating the fattest yet readable bodonian typeface in the market: It was a challenge, because roman fonts need generous counters (or what some call white spaces) and taking them to the extreme of inexistence attempted against the construction of many glyphs. Ears, dots, terminals and serifs always need some extra space so I had to find the exact point of boldness to make characters which have those attributes work well in the middle of those which haven't. (1) After a while, I felt I was again ‘in my element’: Big contrasted letters, sexy and elegant curves, and that Lubalinesque feeling that characterise my fonts. (2) Words written with Posh are a explosion of elegance and sensuality due to the fact that its didone attributes were exaggerated. Since it’s full of alternate glyphs, one can change and choose them until a nice block of ‘‘black’’ is achieved. (3) To accompany the regular style, I designed Posh Inline, a font with the same quantity of glyphs than the regular one; an all caps style called Posh Capitals, and also a really playful Italic version. I hope you find this one delicious like I do! This font is dedicated to all who understand letters are not just meant to be read, but also to be appreciated in group and individually. Enjoy it. NOTES (1) In example, it can be easy to design a fat letter ‘n’ with almost no counter, but really tough to make a satisfactory letter ‘s’ with serifs to match that ‘n’. Presidio is a stylized version of the hand-lettered calligraphy typical of the Mission era of early California. This lettering was often unique to an individual hand, but the characters shared a common style, and had their roots in the Middle Ages when monks and scholars copied whole books one letter at a time.
