Éric de Berranger likes to multitask, and often works on two typeface families at once. Such was the case with Mosquito, a jaunty sans that was developed at the same time he was creating the more traditional Maxime. Mosquito represented a sort of recreation," says de Berranger. "When I grew tired of working on one design I could work on the other and then come back to the first, full of courage and desire!" Mosquito is built from simple, straightforward shapes, but its distinctive stroke terminals and slight oblique weight stress distinguish the design from more conventional sans serif faces. The relatively large x-height and open counters add to the legibility of the design. The capitals are straightforward (with just a hint of Peignot), while the lowercase has a softer, more inviting demeanor. "I drew Mosquito with the hope that it would be pleasant to look at and to read," says de Berranger. "I think the end result is almost feminine." Mosquito comes in three weights, with complementary italic designs and a suite of small caps, old style figures and alternate characters."

This elegant typeface was suggested to me by type critic Daniel Will-Harris. Jensen Arabique is based on a set of capital letters drawn by Gustav Jensen that included the word "ARABIQUE" at the top of the first page, therefore the name. Daniel Will-Harris has this to say about Jensen Arabique: "I found an example of this unexecuted Gustav Jensen typeface in a type sample book from 1933, and Jason Castle lovingly digitized it with all its rare and unusual curves intact." Salom was designed by Austrian type designer Igor Labudovic during his year at Reading University. Besides Latin, it originally included Arabic and Hebrew. The peaceful coexistence of both writing systems in his fonts led him to combine the words Salaam and Shalom to the font family name. Salom’s sibling, Salom Sans, features the same letter proportions and therefore allows a rich spectrum of diverse typography, yet keeping the harmony between all styles. What’s the good word? This elegant, stylish typeface, based on an early twentieth-century Barnhart Brothers & Spindler release, named simply "Engravers Upright Script". Based on French ronde letterforms, this version is bolder—which makes it suitable for text settings, even at smaller sizes—and has more pronounced stroke contrast—which makes it suitable for headlines. Versatile, handsome and charming, this typeface is an invaluable addition to any type repertoire. Both versions of the font contain the complete Unicode 1252 (Latin) and Unicode 1250 (Central European) character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

My goal in designing Zentral was to create a distinctive sculptural font intentionally in Regular and Italic only. I believe Zentral Regular and Italic has the latitude and flexibility needed in most type scenarios without having to resort to multiple weights. Zentral Regular upper/lowercase provides a very pleasant contrast and can be varied by using Zentral Regular capitals. Zentral Italic is ideal for creating emphasis of words, quotes or phrases. This combination provides maximum impact and readability. Zentral is a contemporary font ideal for branding, packaging, advertising, editorial in print and e-print applications.

Twirrewyn is Frisian for ‘Whirlwind’. I have always liked the Frisian language; it’s like a crossover between English and Dutch. When I studied journalism in Zwolle (a city close to Fryslân) there were a lot of Frisian students and I did pick up a few words! Twirrewyn is a handmade font family: the fat version was made using a brush and ink; the light version was made using that same ink, but with a broken satay skewer instead of a brush. And yes, you have guessed right, we eat a lot of Satay! ;-)
