The "Zornale", is an original manuscript that contains a large amount of data, providing a daily record of the books acquired by the Venetian bookseller Francesco de Madiis, between 1481 and 1488. Zornale is a family of text fonts in five weights that can be combined with the variant Caption with short ascenders and descendants. The family is completed with true italics in two weights (light italics and italics) specially designed for use in reading texts. These fonts have been designed with precise kerning and full OpenType features: Small caps, old-style numbers, Swashes, stylistic and contextual alternates, ligatures and case-sensitive forms. Each font contains 549 glyphs for complete control and enhance typographic refinement.

Handy Andy Andy Lethbridge had only just completed his graphic design BA at the University of Portsmouth when he was spotted by Jason, who’d seen Andy’s exquisite hand lettering at his degree show and on Instagram. Keen to push the handwritten theme further, having recently launched a digitally-created, chalky script font (FS Sammy), Jason offered Andy a job and the chance to develop a suite of more stylised, truly hand-drawn fonts. Andy duly got out his pads, pencils and pens, and started experimenting with styles and textures. Magic followed. Imperfection perfected Most ‘handwritten’ typefaces are created entirely digitally. Not FS Shepton. From the start, the intention was to create a collection of alphabets of similar character but different texture and style – 100% hand-drawn and purposely imperfect, with the kind of inconsistent, organic shapes and textures of market stall signs, dashed off in chalk or paint. FS Shepton Regular, drawn with a wet brush pen, is solid with a rough outer edge and a casual but controlled feel. The dry brush used to create FS Shepton Light gives it more inner texture and a more formal, slanted, calligraphic style. FS Shepton Bold, drawn using a wider, looser dry brush pen, has a woody grain in the middle of its broad strokes and greater solidity where the brush moves more slowly. Fresh as a daisy Think of FS Shepton not as a family of three weights of the same font so much as a collection of three fonts penned by the same author. All of them – the light, regular and bold – were created independently as display fonts that offer something different to labelling, packaging, point-of-sale and advertising. Lovingly crafted by hand, they’re a good match for products and settings that share the same artisinal qualities: organic foods, drinks and healthcare products, as well as premium chocolate, coffee and condiments.

Aloha! Veteran Sign Painter Pierre Tardif and Lettering Artist Charles Borges de Oliveria have teamed up to bring you these fun to use brush fonts. This family was inspired by the pure Jenson set of fonts used in Venice to print De preparatio evangelica in the year 1470. The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and ligatures used in the original. Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing, also small caps, these, contained in a separate file in the Mac TT version. This font supports strong enlargements as easily than small size remaining very smart, elegant and fine. Decorated letters like 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian 1584 Rinceau or other fonts from GLC Foundry, can be used with this family without anachronism. If Italic style is required, we recommend the use of 1557 Italique.

The French lettering book Album de Lettres Arti (1949) displayed a number of examples of unique, stylized typefaces. One in particular features a multi-line sans serif in a classic Art Deco style with open-ended characters. This design is now available as Sign Studio JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Many great lettering examples were found in the 1939 French publication by Georges Léculier, "Modèles de Lettres Moderns" ("Models of Modern Letters"). One design in particular is a stencil alphabet so typical of the Art Deco movement of the 1930s. Artwork Stencil JNL is now available digitally in both regular and oblique versions.

One good pun is worth a simple description… Nondescript JNL… 'Non' - not. 'de' - of, in Spanish. script - a cursive (handwritten) letter form. So… while nondescript generally means lacking any defining description, in this case it also means "not of a script"… which is precisely what a typeface such as this one is!

In March 2011, the Society of Typographic Aficionados began organizing a collaborative project that would unite the typographic and design communities. The goal of Font Aid V: Made for Japan was to raise funds to expedite relief efforts after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Nearly 300 contributors from 45 countries sent in over 500 glyphs in a single week. Behind the scenes, volunteers Neil Summerour, Silas Dilworth, Delve Withrington, and Grant Hutchinson were up to their elbows in Adobe Illustrator and Fontlab assembling the typeface. The sheer number of submissions coupled with the complexity of some of the designs caused unforeseen delays in completing the typeface. The team not only managed the immense influx of submissions, it also had several technical hurdles and multiple content reviews to mitigate before the final font could be produced. Several months after the project was initiated, Font Aid V: Made for Japan was finally ready for distribution. With the help of Sogo Japan, all proceeds from sales of this typeface will be delivered directly to organizations in Japan, such as Second Hand and AMDA International (Association of Medical Doctors of Asia). Sogo Japan strives to help circumvent regular international charity channels and the inefficiencies associated with them. The year 2022 went and 2023 came. I can honestly say that last year was a horrible year and I am happy it ended a couple of days ago. The first week after New Year’s Eve always fills my head with the U2 song ‘New Year’s Day’ - so I named this font after a line from the lyrics. I also happened to watch a fantastic movie called ‘Im Westen Nights Neues’, directed by Edward Berger, but based on a book by Erich Maria Remarque, which, in English, was published as ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’. So there you have it: naming a font in 2 easy steps! ;-) All Is Quiet is a lovely brush font, which I created using my father in law’s Chinese pencil and ink. I can suggest some uses here, but I am convinced you can come up with that yourself.

Barbieri is a casual sans type family, based on a German lettering style from the 1960s. The original hand-drawn alphabet was used in a rather peculiar edition of Der Barbier von Bagdad, an opera composed by Peter Cornelius. Our efforts to identify the cover designer have been, so far, unsuccessful. As fans of informal typography and popular lettering styles, we thought these few thin letters deserved a re-incarnation as a complete type family. Andrés Torresi and Marta Sánchez Marco were in charge of the production work. Now Barbieri has 6 weights suitable for packaging, posters, and music covers. It resembles a certain 'Americana' spirit, though with a Germanic twist.

Continuo is a fascinating, all-uppercase display typeface wherein the contour of each letterform is described with a single, continuous line. The challenges presented by that simple idea are similar to constructing letterforms with neon tubing. For example, when the strokes of a letterform need to be heavier than the width of the neon tube, two tubes are employed to create the outer contours, effectively leaving an unfilled void inside the stroke. Also, since neon tubes cannot be broken apart as they trace the contours, they must follow a path that, for reasons of economy and to avoid optical massing (or bright spots in neon), the tubes are not crossed. So too, the construction of Continuo follows. Amigo was designed by Arthur Baker in 1989 and consists of a single weight. Its basic forms are based on Venetian old face types, as can be seen for example in the slightly slanted cross stroke of the lower case e. But Baker also gave his figures eccentric contours, for example, a marked stroke contrast which gives the look of having been written with a broad-tipped pen, and the change in stroke is by no means regular in the lower case characters. The heavier upper parts become thinner as they progress downward, in contrast to the tendency of most text typefaces. The eccentricity of the forms give the characters a lively almost comic look and is best highlighted in large point sizes. However, Amigo is also legible in point sizes as small as 10 and well-suited for middle length texts and headlines.

Its versatility can be even strengthened by pairing it with Qualion™ or Qualion Text™ families. Qualion Round™ family consists of 10 weights with corresponding oblique styles. This is the first true pixel-font released by CheapProFonts. It may not be the first font based on a 5x5 pixel grid, but it probably has the best language support. The glyphs have all been optimized for Flash (by making the pixel shapes slightly overlapping) and should render sharp and perfect when set in 10px size (or multitudes of 10). As with all pixelfonts: make sure to place the text at coordinates with whole numbers, and always use left (and NEVER centered) alignment. Based on a specimen of an obscure and uncredited old face called Kitterland, Hamlet is one of those curiosities hardly ever noticed in the world of modern fonts, the kind that infuses a variety of historic Blackletter and calligraphy traits in an otherwise Roman alphabet. Such typefaces, what few of them exist, are almost always classified by typophiles as traditional decorative Roman alphabets. We beg to differ. We think such hybrids are fascinating enough to deserve a classification of their own. And we think today's aspiring letterers and type designers would benefit from paying special attention to this kind of hybrid alphabet, not only because it has much more hand than machine in it, but also because it is a prime example of how to succeed in mixing different lettering techniques into one self-contained and distinctly functional alphabet. As in any efficient mixture of lettering methods, Hamlet ended up with characters that are uniquely its own, such as the cupped A, M, V, W and Y, the very luscious and inviting curves on the arms of E, F, L and T, both single- and double-story forms of the a, and the humblest, friendliest g and y ever. A dozen alternate characters are sprinkled throughout the character set, so check out the map for a few pleasant surprises. We also made the Handtooled and Headstone styles because we thought these friendly forms were just crying out for such treatments. The Handtooled version turned out quite lovely, if we may say so ourselves, perhaps even better than the main font. The Headstone version is available as a free bonus to those who purchase the complete Hamlet package. All Hamlet styles come with lining figures as well as old style ones. Hamlet comes in all popular font formats. The OpenType fonts contain push-button swapping alternates and figures, which come in handy in software programs that support this kind of thing.

The result is a typeface that lives up to its name. Each individual line makes no sense on its own; individual letters are only recognisable in the context of all associated lines, individual letters are most likely to be recognised in the context of whole words. Attached to a building wall, text would be readable from a great distance and become increasingly difficult to decipher the closer you get to the building. Placed on the ground or on a large flat roof, text would only be readable from an aeroplane or - depending on the size - in Google Earth. Kontext has old style figures, superscript numerals, case-sensitive questiondown and exclamdown and an alternative ampersand, 390 glyphs at all. Use the same value for font size and line spacing to keep the lines in the grid, or change the line spacing in 10% steps. Change the spacing in 100-unit or 25-percent increments increments to keep the grid. The »H« in the font name stands for horizontal (lines). Sorvettero is a sans, layered and unicase typeface inspired by some wood signs at Descansópolis, a neighborhood on Campos do Jordão, a city of Brazil. A fun and cute display project with different use purposes, like packaging, logos, signs, and whatever your creativity brings on. Breathless was inspired by movie posters of the Nouvelle Vague era when Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo were young and films where in black and white. So I named this very spiky affair after that phantastic movie of my youth A bout des souffle or like it was called in English, Breathless. -Your breathless type designer, Gert Wiescher

The inspiration for Cuba comes from a sign for the restaurant "La Flor de Cuba" on Bergenline Avenue in Union City, New Jersey. Its blocky, dimensional forms are reminiscent of letterforms seen in signs throughout Latin America from, Colombia, to Mexico, to Spain, to Union City. Its quirky forms are meant to evoke a sense of hand painted signage.

Andreis is a typeface inspired by the art nouveau shapes that appear in the letters of a metal box, made at the beginning of the 20th century by the company G. De Adréis from Badalona in Spain. Its organic and feminine forms evoke the aesthetics of those years and add elegance to the projects where it is used.
