I accidentally fell in love with type design, and more specifically, the inscription on the historic Bemis building in Seattle. A high waist and great contrast are characteristics of this classic caps lettering that inspired my debut typeface, with additions of 3/4 caps and ornaments to boot. FreeDee is a re-draw of some experimental lettering first drawn during A-Level (just after high-school) art and design studies. As its name implies, Photina was created specifically for phototypesetting, the technology that preceded digital and laser typesetting. Photina was designed by Jose Mendoza y Almeida in 1971 and was the third face made by the Monotype Corporation for phototypesetting systems. Saturday Detentions is based on the classic serif "High School" style. However, this version is handmade and a bit rugged here and there - and loose in a legible/organic way. Censorship JNL joins the wide array of stencil-themed fonts from Jeff Levine. An advantage to this particular design is the larger amount of stencil sections per letter or number. When used with a plotter/cutter, stencils in excess of 12 inches high can be cut into masking material without the cut-out characters becoming floppy or unstable.

Nothing is hidden in the simplistic forms and overt aesthetic of Anya Danilova’s Rezak font family. Rezak is not a type family directly from the digital world, but was inspired by the stout presence of cutting letters out of tangible material: paper, stone, and wood. With only a few cuts, the shapes remain dark and simple. With more cuts, the shapes become lighter and more defined, resulting in a dynamic type family not stuck within one specific category. The Black and medium weights began as one approach before separating into display and text categories. The four text weights were created through pendulum swings in design direction that experimented with contrast, angles, tangent redirections, and the amount of anomalies allowed. The text weights are vocal when set larger than ten points and subtle at smaller sizes. The tech-heavy Incised display style came last, employing a surprising range of trigonometric functions to make it behave exactly as desired. Its look can result in something distinctive and emotional or completely over-the-top. Most normal typefaces change only in thickness; Rezak changes in intention, highlighting the relationship between dark and light, presence and absence, what’s removed and what remains. Rezak’s Black and Incised display styles are like a shaft of light in reverse and are perfect in situations of impact: websites, headlines and large text, gaming, call-outs, posters, and packaging. The tone works for something from youthful or craft-oriented to organic and natural products. Try these two in logotypes, complex print layering, branding, and words-as-pattern for greater experimentation. The text styles are bold, energetic, well informed, and round out the family with four weights (Regular, Semibold, Bold, Extrabold) and matching italics for a family grand total of ten. These jaunty styles work well in children’s books, call-outs, movie titles, and subheads for myriad subjects such as architecture, coffee, nature, cooking, and other rough-and-tumble purposes. Rezak’s crunchy letters are meant to expose rough, daring, or dramatic text. Heket was a goddess of childbirth and fertility in Ancient Egypt. She was depicted as a frog, or a woman with the head of a frog. Frogs symbolized fruitfulness and new life. Heket font is an expressive handwritten font, it is available in four versions: Regular and slanted. They have many advantages of the OpenType futures to choose from: stylistic alternates, swashes, contextual alternates, and a full set of standard and discretionary ligatures. Heket supports all diacritics for CE languages; they come also with a huge variety of ornaments, underlines, beginnings and word endings that will allow you to work in a creative way. This family typeface consists of three fonts which have the same weight and style, but have been designed to work best at different sizes and in slightly different contexts. It is based on handwriting and calligraphy and consists of three typefaces: Rumba Small (for texts), Rumba Large (for headlines) and Rumba Extra (for words). The family is based on the idea of fonts that are interrelated depending on the differences in contrast, expressiveness and use, not on the classic range of weights. This type has been designed specifically but not exclusively for use in the languages spoken in Spain, hence special attention has been paid to the design of accents, special characters and ligatures. In a later development it was extended to CE Character Set.

I have a notation that the summer of 1994, when I worked with Kalix, was a warm one. I had no special typeface in mind when drawing the characters of Kalix, but many typefaces contributed to it, e.g. my own Omnibus from which I borrowed the looks of the smal case g. I think it is a lovely typeface whose use is mainly for books and magazines. Kalix is the name of a northern Swedish town situated along a river called Kalixälven. Its name is of sami origin, *káles, meaning cold. There comes the connection to the warm summer of 1994! But even the Latin word for chalice, calix, has something to do with my choice of name. Kalix was released in 1994.

Big Fish is a low contrast Script and Slanted Casuals with bold characters. Big Fish has three weights of Script and a set of Extras that can be used as themselves or combined with script charters for custom swashes. Bombelli is a font that looks like it has been handwritten by a meticulous architect in one of those hand-drawn blueprints of the old days. I chose the name to honor one of my ex-bosses -- a graphic designer-architect who taught me a lot of things when I was young and needed the money. One of the things he taught me – and probably the most important one – was to always be on time in the morning. He never said a word about me being late, but it worked. He taught me about being meticulous in detail and many other things I only appreciated much later. This clear and straightforward font deserves bearing his name.
