100.000 years ago years ago, a group of mad scientists from the far away planet ZyrXX, encountered the earth and just waited to conquer the planet. Their masterplan was to use electronic brain waves to manipulate our minds. Sounds cheesy and comic, right? Well, that is the true story about this font. The font was built using a grid (hence the name!) and all I had in mind, was a mixture of old sci-fi movies and computer graphics from the 80ies. I did my best to recall and re-create this - I will let you be the judge to decide whether I succeeded! :)

Herb is based on 16th century cursive broken scripts and printing types. Originally designed by Tim Ahrens in the MA Typeface Design course at the University of Reading, it was further refined and extended in 2010. Ano Angular was originally designed for a fashion company. It was to be used as a headline type, half way between the logo we had designed — made up of straight lines only — and our circle-based Ano typeface, which was to be used for text. Its design is based on the idea of mixing circles with triangles into letter shapes in a modular, constructed way. The effect is digital, mathematical, remeniscent of the typography of 1980s arcade games such as Asteroids.
