P22 Albemarle is a smooth reworking of the popular rough textured Roanoke font. The texture change gives this style a much more elegant effect, yet retains its skilled capturing of historical handwriting. One in the series of fonts celebrating the Halcyon Days of Handlettering. Magic Lantern is a caps and small caps font based on an untitled design by Samuel Welo, whose Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers appeared in six editions between 1927 and 1960. The pattern for this typeface was suggested by a poster for beer, designed by German artist Ludwig Hohlwein around 1920. If you wanted to send out a party invitation in 1923, Barnhart Brothers & Spindler recommended this typeface, which was originally called, simply, "Greeting Card". Café de Paris is, clearly, inspired by all things French, especially the quirky typefaces that adorn French shopfronts from cafes to charcuteries and bistros to boulangeries. My intention was a fresh, crisp, modern take on a classic theme, with just a soupcon of Art Nouveau, which is characteristic of so much of French typography (See also Studio K’s Paris Metro font) C'est chic - n'est-ce pas?

British poster artist Cecil Wade provided the lowercase for this typeface, and his compatriot T. G. Birtles provided the uppercase. The inspiration for this typeface was found tucked away in what is arguably the worst book of advertising clip art ever published (cleverly entitled The Advertising Cartoon Clip Art Book from 1971). Alfabetica is a modern and humanist Sans Serif typeface. We were looking for a new grotesque energetic but with some classical features. The result of the design is a grotesque slightly condensed with soft strokes, open counters and terminals; giving it a great readability with an esthetic elegance and sensitive appeal. Alfabetica comes in eight weights from Thin to Black, with a matching italic for every weight. This typeface bears a superficial resemblance to Belwe Extrabold, but is based on a work called Thor, issued by Frederic Wesselhoeft Ltd of London in the 1930s.
