Linotype Projekt was created by German type designer Andreas Koch with both a well-defined inspiration and goal. It occurred to me that typefaces like Helvetica and Univers seemed to have a higher quality in hot-metal composition as with modern digital typesetting. They are stronger and livelier. This is in part due to the printing process, which presses the characters onto paper, and in part to the forms of the letters, which differ from the PostScript version of the same typeface. An important aspect of printing is the slight increase in character width resulting from the pressure which also serves as an optical correction to the forms. (True exact squares appear slightly barrel-formed to the eye.) I wanted to revive this peculiarity, not because of a nostalgic feeling, rather just because it is more attractive." Vinque is an interpretation of a nineteenth century Arts & Crafts revival of medieval lettering. British type designer William Morris completed Troy in 1891—a splendid blackletter typeface in the medieval style. It’s beautiful but some modern uses like UI and video game text require a less ornate gothic appearance. Vinque is simple. It avoids strong vertical blackletter strokes which can present problems for contemporary readers. The end result is an uncomplicated, crisp typeface that successfully conveys medievalness to the reader. Vinque was released in 2002 in one style: Regular. In 2019, Vinque was expanded to seven weights and italics. Language support was bolstered to support most current Latin based languages as well as Greek and Cyrillic. OpenType fractions, f-ligatures and old-style numerals are supported.

Randolph is a popular font family from Jukebox done in an old fashioned copperplate etching style that harkens back to the days of old leather-bound shop ledgers and hand painted window signs. Body graphic project at Behance Body is a type family designed for Zetafonts by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini with Andrea Tartarelli. Conceived as a contemporary alternative to modernist superfamilies like Univers or Helvetica, Body tries to maximize text readability while providing a wide range of options for the designer. It comes in two variants (Body Text and Body Grotesque), each in four widths and four weights: regular and bold for basic typesetting, light and extrabold for display use. Body Grotesque applies to the sans serif modernist skeleton little imperfections and quirks inspired by our research in early 20th century type specimens. Curves are slightly more calligraphic and a light inverse contrast is applied to bold weights, giving the typeface a slight vintage appearance in display use. Body Text, on the contrary, challenges the modernist aesthetics maximizing horizontal lines and using open terminals for letters like “s” and “a” that appear normally dark in modernist grotesques. For both variants, the normal width family is slightly condensed in an effort to maximize space usage; the Slim width is provided for extremely dense texts or side notes while the Fit width is optimized for display usage as in logos, headings or titles. Jubilee is a glyphic font family with moderate stress, slightly inclined serifs, and storied history. Its original design was created in 1934 by famous English type designer Eric Gill for the Stephenson Blake type foundry. The development name was “Gill Text,” but this was changed to “Cunard” once the famous steamship company showed interest in using the typeface. The company, however, never utilized it. Stephenson Blake changed the name to Jubilee in 1935 to commemorate George V and Queen Mary’s Silver Jubilee Wedding Anniversary announcement. After International TypeFounders, Inc. acquired the exclusive rights to the Stephenson Blake collection, Paul Hickson (P&P Hickson) and Steve Jackaman (ITF) revived the family exclusively for the Red Rooster Collection in 1994. A new, Medium weight was created to accompany the original Light and Bold weights. Jubilee has an inscribed, Renaissance feel, and performs well at all sizes. Its letterforms are sturdy, yet there is an undeniable delicacy to the face.

Two attractive cast metal door signs reading "Men" and "Ladies" from back in the Art Deco era inspired the idea for Nameplate JNL. The left parenthesis key starts the border decoration, and the right parenthesis key closes it off. Nameplate JNL has just a basic A-Z and numeral set; the letters "floating" within the parallel lines of the border to form complete nameplates, apartment numbers or any similarly encased words. A period, comma, apostrophe and dash are on their respective keys. A small blank space is on the left bracket key, a medium space is on the right bracket key and a large space is on the left brace key. There is a small, complete frame on the right brace key. For names such as "MacDonald" or "McIntyre", the small "ac" is on the colon key and the small "c" is on the semicolon key. No kerning has been applied in order to give the type more of an antique, "mechanically assembled" look.

Herold is a bold Art Nouveau advertising face released by H. Berthold, Berlin, Germany in 1901. It is also seen under the name “Herold Reklame.” The design is attributed to Hermann Hoffmann by the Klingspor Museum. A herold (‘herald’ in English, ‘heraldus’ in Latin) is one who delivers proclamations and announcements. Medieval heralds are often pictured with a horn with which to get everyone’s attention prior to performing his function. His only PA system was his own voice. Left and right glyphs of a herald with horn may be found at positions 137 and 172. Herold is quite compact with a high x-height, just right for making -- what else? -- announcements.

Northeast Railway is a product of argentine typographic archeology project called "Tipografía Histórica Ferroviaria" (Fabio Ares & Octavio Osores, since 2012). Is about the signboards of the stations of the line of the Argentine North Eastern Railway Company Limited (1987-1948). The letter of this signboards can be described as display type, with elementary geometric shapes and without line modulation. The principal font of the resultant family is the bold. The family is completed with complementary fonts of different styles. The proceeds from the sale of the fonts will be used to finance the project.

In the 1960s it was a popular trend to personalize one’s possessions with your initials. From wallets and handbags to eyeglasses; from luggage to even cars, initial personalization was the fad of the time. The British division of Gulf Oil offered for sale a set of gold metallic stick-on initials for 25 pence, complete with two Gulf logos so the company could get some extra advertising mileage out of the promotion. These extra-wide, bold initials served as the idea model for Personalization JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Heinz is inspired by the poster design of Heinz Schulz-Neudamm for Fritz Lang’s famous silent movie Metropolis. Heinz Schulz-Neudamm did quite a lot of work for the German branches of big American movie companies like 20th Century Fox or MGM. His most famous work is probably the title lettering for the Metropolis movie. The original drawing for that poster sold in 2005 in London for 398.000 Pound Sterling (approx. US $ 600.000). Boot Camp JNL has the same roots as Jeff Levine's Condensed Stencil JNL, as they were both modeled from a set of vintage brass interlocking stencils made by the Stafford Manufacturing Company. The previous font was drawn from limited examples of the stencils seen in an online photograph, so a number of the basic characters had to be improvised. Since then, a nearly complete set was obtained and the alphabet and numerals are truer to the original design. Additionally, both Regular and Oblique versions of Boot Camp JNL are available.

A vintage lettering stencil manufactured by the E-Z Letter Stencil Company of Baltimore, Maryland was the model for Schoolyard Stencil JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions. Re-drawn digitally and following the actual bend of the steel rule dies used to cut the stencils, this typeface has not been cleaned up from its original design. Upon close examination, you will find straight angles and slight curves in the most unusual places. This was representative of the difficult work involved in bending steel cutting rule material and fitting it into small areas. For many years, E-Z Letter was the main competitor to the Stenso Lettering Company; the originator of the oil board stencil lettering guide complete with automatic spacing holes. Anyone over 40 will well-remember lettering their science fair posters, report covers and ring binders with these stencils.
